my take: n1a: charli wanted to put out a collection of music because she was frustrated with her album (xcx world) not coming out when she wanted it to. it wasn't thought about as a true 'era' at the time, but rather a pit stop before the official album roll out pop 2: charli knew xcx world wasn't coming out, wanted a proper album release but also wanted to put something out quickly to satisfy herself and fans. to her, xcx world felt a bit dated (production and subjects) and she really wanted to push for a more futuristic pc aesthetic - which she did! idk if this is true but it's how i view the albums/mixtapes
