I can't help but wonder why she put Dealer on this album. Did she feel like she had to, because she had told us it might be on Chemtrails? I think one of the reasons why she added Yosemite to Chemtrails and not one of the 129 other Lust for Life outtakes was because she knew the fans were eager to hear it. Or did she really feel like Dealer was part of the story she wanted to tell us?

I really like Dealer, and can't wait to hear it in higher quality, but I can't help thinking that on several levels, it is weaker than the 4 singles we got so far, but also weaker than Nectar Of The Gods, Living Legend, Cherry Blossom. The lyrics are not as good or elaborate as those on the rest of the album, most of the song isn't even sung by her (although I'm still hoping we're having a solo version). It's a song that's good and refreshing, but I'm not sure it has the introspective depth of the other songs through which she's aiming to tell her story. I can't really see how a song about a drug dealer and not wanting to live anymore fits in with what we've heard so far. All the more so because Dealer was made in 2017, the year where she refused to answer a question about using drugs in the past in an interview, and also the year where she was looking really positive, smiling on her album cover, wishing for world peace etc, therefore the dark tone of the song doesn't seem to correspond well to Lana's life at the time (it seems to correspond more to her Lizzy years). Maybe she was actually telling her persona's story - but so far, this is not what the other songs on this album seem to do, as they are about Lana herself, not the persona.

You put into words exactly how I feel about this song's placement on BB! I actually love the song, but I'm curious to see if it will make more sense within the context of the album

I have nothing better to do right now so here's my prediction for my top five:

    1. Black Bathing Suit

    2. Sweet Carolina

    3. Dealer

    4. If You Lie Down With Me

    5. Thunder

    5. Arcadia (it's so beautiful I would be surprised if it wasn't in my top 5 after the full album drops)

    4. Black Bathing Suit (hoping for a sexy bop with elements from the Trio :blush3:)

    3. Violets for Roses (the name is speaking to me)

    2. Thunder (was obsessed with the original version, BOZ's description made me c*m)

    1. If You Lie Down With Me (i'm envisioning a sultry, smoky UV style invitation to bed :twirls:)

  4. Spoiler

i actually don't mind the male vocals being so prominent, i'm in love with the chill instrumental and Lana's INSANE vocals, she sounds so pissed off and I'M LIVING. at the halfway mark though there's weird background noises that really bother me?? I hope BOZ or someone can confirm that this is a low quality version and the album one will be a clearer audio. otherwise this song is SO unique from her discography and it's a breath of fresh air amidst the beautiful piano ballads that seem to be this album's bread and butter.

  5. Blue Banisters is truly one of her best songs. I didn't expect to come so hard for this track but it's been on repeat for an hour I can't get enough! The melodies, the lyrics, the atmosphere, the piano, EVERYTHING. Such a beautiful, ethereal experience. I don't mind the name drops, they make the song even more personal.

My next favourite is Wildflower Wildfire. Her voice is so strong here, I definitely see her as being more confident vocally after COCC. The build-up to the chorus is well done, I love how she sings the "hot fire, hot weather, hot coffee" line. The drums near the end do not sound great. I don't hate the muffled sound but I still wish they were just a little clearer so they don't detract from everything else going on.

Text Book is definitely a grower. The lyrics are so dense and there is so much that I haven't picked up on even though I've listened to it a few times. The lyrics also kind of seem stream of consciousness? Kind of like how White Dress was freestyled. The chorus production and melody reminds me of Get Free, and I LOVE the outro with the choir vocals backing her. I hope the album follows this sonic soundscape and has more Zach Dawes!
