Yes to Heaven is such a dull title

I honestly prefer Yes to Heaven because it is shorter and sounds more mysterious, adding elements of mysticism and Catholicism that Lana's known so much for. Say Yes to Heaven reminds me of rather cliched titles like Say You Love Me or Say To Me and stuff like that and narrows the concept of what the song is about. But it's just my opinion of course. Idc about the title as long as the song is as good as or better than the demo Ultraviolence version we have.

It’s the same on god bless America-

    boys and their toys

    girls and their pearls

Oh yeah! That was from the time when they were confirmed to be friends though and it's less apparent. Now the whole fandom thinks they don't like each other but here is Lana coming with this. What's something we don't know? :stareney2:

yes I know, sorry I should have made that clear, I was thinking about a more Rick/Dr. Luke(🤢) pop version

oh I see. well Rick could've made it to sound more like Bubblegum Bitch, it would've been perfect. Stargate was probably cheaper tho

I wonder how radioactive would have faired if it had production more in line with the other tracks on Electra Heart, by her own account it fits lyrically but not sonically:flutter:

It did not fit sonically because it was supposed to sound like that and was replaced with instrumental background made for a different artist:

Definitely not a single material... but perhaps with some changes here and there it could've had more potential.

I will never get over the fact she wrote froot whilst single meanwhile the only ‘romantic’ song towards jack is superstar (end of the earth was for a movie so I don’t count it) and the nicest thing she said about him was ‘what I like about you is you know who you are’:rip:

Nothing weird about it, they had been a couple for a few years already, after many years love just doesn't feel like in typical pop songs, apart from the fact they had a dysfunctional relationship and probably Marina forced herself to write it. Its substantial lyrical structure revolve mostly around anxiety; "You never judge me for any of my fears / I love the way we worked so hard Yeah, we've come so far Baby, look at me, you're my superstar When I'm afraid, when the world's gone dark Come and save my day, you're my superstar".

https://krakenfiles.com/view/2Mnp5mWgqY/file.html scab and plaster final OG file
interesting that the date as of february 16 2012, could be just producer messing with this but maybe it was intended for a duluxe? tho i highly doubt since it not really fit productionwise to electra heart

After years of passionate listening to this track I realised it is severely underdeveloped and the fact this version's supposed to be final sheds a bad light on it. The lyrics are too repetitive, the vocals sound unpolished and the instrumental background doesn't have many things going on. Compare it to marvelous final versions of Power & Control or Living Dead. Miss Y (https://dbree.org/v/062a25) sounded more prepared but I can't seem to find the actual HQ final version with the guitar bridge and piano ending (https://dbree.org/v/fb7f7b).

  7. in alternative universe electra heart was topping all international charts and critics praised it so marina did not have a nervous breakdown, became an international alt pop star, and never gave up on her artistry. i said what i said

coupled with 'yeah you might as well accept it':awkney2: I get she meant something along the lines of 'accept your worst days are over, and enjoy your life (instead of waiting for the worst to happen again)' but the first time I heard that line:rip: it's not a bad message at it's heart, it's just written badly

I just find it hard to believe that all those talented songwriters sat there in that session and were like 'yes this can't be misconstrued whatsoever'

yes this song is so badly written. i imagine some potential in that alternative title tho with better lyrics. most ideas in l+f are practically ill-executed, esp. to be human. not that new america is any better... unfortunately

@Anonymcomenter nah, she doesn't do it, she's admitted to not even reading professional reviews anymore because she cares about her mental health. quite a shame bc ancient dreams in a modern land had nice ones

Remember this live when Marina was channeling (the mother of alternative pop) Kate Bush the entire time?

That last minute of the performance is EPIC!

Guilty is the perfect example of interesting writing skills, nice hooks and quirky production decisions. Ugh I miss that Marina so much. How come with each new album she seems more like a newcomer music-wise than during her first three albums?

I LOVE GUILTY LIVE. Her whole performance in Baden Baden at TFJ Tour was absolutely marvelous.

and as much as I would like die life and electra heart, atlantic (or just her manager) made the right call by not allowing her to do it.

I agree with most of you said in this thread but this definitely not. Her manager Derek MacKillop did not allow her to make Die Life because she wanted it to be exclusively under Marina brand and Electra Heart to be her seperate identity, which I think would be absolutely glorious because she would simultaneously not offend her previous TFJ fans (who were also disgusted by EH sound, really, British press especially) and still hit the charts. She had hits in EH era not because she was already known thanks to TFJ but because they had great pop potential and big producers. Also her anonymity would sparkle even more interest I suppose. Unfortunately no label would make such a risk and fund two albums at the same time and spend money on a big pop campaign with Dr. Luke production and Madonna/Katy Perry ambitions for Marina's experiment, technically a brand new artist.

Handmade heaven is one of her best leads, sorry

i do like handmade heaven, but from what i've observed many people were already bitter about her stage name change, collaboration with clean bandit was rather questionable to say the least, and then handmade heaven was definitely not catchy enough to keep them interested. then superstar (overhated) and orange trees happened, when the album was announced the artwork was so bland it still hurts, later she claimed L+F to be her best album so people grew very big expectations and were disappointed heavily. stop pretending that any please don't call me or holiday would've changed that because we all know it wouldn't, later on she was sooo depressed by the fandom reception that she had nightmares about planes crashing, and, to be honest, listening to this record feels quite uncomfortable after that. and marina is to blame here as well because aside from the music she clearly had no vision for this era. she just doesn't spend that much time on her work as she used to it seems.

  12. since this thread "girl needs to get diamonds back" and "L+F is bad" bores me to death, on a positive note I'd like to point that Electra Heart is now Platinum eligible in the US and The Family Jewels is close to Gold, but Marina would need to buy the certificate herself since probably Atlantic cannot do it anymore.

*edit: we all know about her getting signed, that there were loads of labels after her and she knew only 2 were serious, it would be such great insight if she ever explained this

Sorry to break it to y'all but I remember her saying somewhere that it was a lie and there were "obviously" no labels chasing her so Derek Davies who discovered her seems not to have had competition, truth be told her too cool to be indie too wise to be pop persona was very well-played.

LA - who am I to love you? I'm malnourished by your placebos of love. I guess you could call it a textbook, I was looking for the father I wanted back. I was just a girl that you could not believe because it's harder, I was just a girl and all I really wanted was my father

  16. Writing about your glamorous Hollywood life ain't the thing anyone's gonna relate to, so Marina sis you better take it into consideration, unless you really don't care what you're doing.

That new poem is alright, but the structure seems messy and the visuals kinda childish.

  17. and i made myself believe

other people wanted to hurt me

i took my bitterness and made it sweet

i took a broken heart and made it beat :hair:

hating love + fear is just cliche'd at this point. sure it's nowhere near as excellent as her first three albums but it's got some cute moments
