i don't buy into the theory that the final songs on her albums foreshadow the sound of the next one but i do think an album with the fun surfy with beats vibes of peppers and taco truck x vb would be fun. maybe even some mellow surfy songs in the mix too like the instrumentals of quiet waiter blue forever and patent leather do-over. do i personally think that's the sound of the next record? idk its hars to predict with lana. the last song she recorded for the album was margaret so that could be closer to where she is musically, but i also feel like it could just be a one off since she wrote that as a gift to jack & margaret. she seems to really love candy necklace tho which was the last added so i feel like there's a possibility she could be heading in that direction and work more with jon batiste and finally give us her jazz album.

I think with candy necklace she reconnect a little bit with uv. When she is heading this line ldr10 will be more darker, but i think she will Integrate more synths and traps like on taco truck or fishtail. So it could be that we will get a mix of uv&hm, but more Experimental and darker. The line with super suicidal and hands on the bible are the lyrical Highlight of the album and cn is one of my favorites. So the conclusion is we get dark Experimental trap Jazz.

My hatred of Blue Banisters isn’t for the actual songs themselves, but the album and its concept / creation.

Individually, the songs are great. The 3 2013 songs, IYLDWM, BBS, Arcadia, Dealer, Thunder and Sweet Carolina are some of my favourite Lana songs. However the creation of Blue Banisters (in my opinion) is so incredibly lazy and random.

Not to mention, the things she attempted with Text Book, Blue Banisters, WFWF, Beautiful and Violets For Roses are done miles better on Ocean Blvd.

Personally, I think Blue Banisters is a stain on her discography simply because she rushed to release it (and the initial concept was changed so many times) and it feels unfocused. The songs I mentioned above were necessary for her to get to the stage she is at with her poetic personal writing, but that doesn’t mean she should have released this. It feels like she had those 4 singles, realised she found where she wanted to go artistically on future records, and tried to quickly shape an album around it by pulling songs from anywhere and everywhere (including YouTube).

TL;DR: Sometimes songs have to be written for an artist to move forward artistically but that doesn’t mean they have to be released.

Anyways yeah that’s my personal opinion on BB, I don’t hate it like it’s not Ava Max level bad but still it sits at the bottom of my ranking and will probably stay there. For newer fans, or people who don’t care for albums as a collective body, I understand why they would like it but for me I just cant see this compilation of tracks as an acclaimed body of work on par with her others.

I understand your points, but songs like grants:eek3:, sry, i have the feeling sometimes she moves away from her core on this album in a good way (like a&w) and than in a bad way (like grants) . @Vertimus said it right: a lot of the songs  are missing the thrill, the excitement. I have 5 favorites and a few songs i can listen to, but it is nothing in the League of nfr uv hm for me. The only thing she made better on Ob than on bb is more Experimental and fuller sounds on some songs and reminiscences on her early work. So i hope she will go in that direction for the next album.

me when mac, venice bitch, cinnamon girl, and california clear almost all of ocean blvd

imo, ocean blvd lacks a warmth that i get from her other albums, most notably uv, hm, nfr, and bb, which are why i love those albums so much
the songs on ocean blvd are great, but just because a song is objectively good doesn't make it my favorite

with more listens, it's harder for me to rank the album because all the songs are really good, but it also moves down in my album ranking
as of now, it is tied with NFR for 4th place with uv, hm, and bb above them

edit: the only songs on ocean blvd i get that "warmth" or "comfort" from are sweet, title track, grandfather, paris texas, and let the light in

People hating bb forget Milestones like thunder, wfwf, arcadia, iyldwm, dealer

'Fishtail' has grown on me a lot lately. I feel that 'Taco Truck' had the potential to be the Top Tier Classic Lana, if only it had continued another 3 minutes before segueing into VB.

I like 'Margaret,' but would have preferred Lana's speaking part be eliminated. Between it and Jack's verse, the song breaks up too much for my taste.

Could we get an actual ranking from you?
