I feel like this video would've been fine for a Portals virtual live show like 'Can't Wait 'Til I'm Out of K-12', but as the actual music video for one of the most popular songs she's ever made(that had already gone viral before she even officially released it), it's so weak. Knowing that the better version she planned on using for the film is probably never going to happen, I'm especially disappointed.

Not sure if I'm just tasteless or if the Tunnel Vision music video was legitimately a letdown.. she could've done so much with that, but instead we got "graphic design is my passion" motifs with a side of badly used CGI.

When the Jingle Ball show was first announced I was really excited and hoped she'd either show up in full prosthetics or just go on as herself. But instead we just got the same half-assed costume as the tour shows, with a handful of Portals songs that she struggled to sing(if it weren't for backing tracks her touring career would've ended years ago). It just feels like we've been seeing the same thing all year and I really feel like she missed an opportunity to do something more unique from her current shows. And it didn't have to be anything flashy or expensive.. just her going on stage and doing a stripped acoustic set in a plain white T-shirt and jeans would've had Twitter screaming for months.

I've seen too many immediate complaints for it all to be a coincidence, so where's the "luxury quality" Melanie was going on about when fans were criticizing the design and price tag for the perfumes? "It takes a lot of time and money to make high quality, meaningful products/art for you guys!" she says, as she feeds us an era full of the lowest quality shit she's ever put her name behind. She keeps trying to make every bad decision sound like high art that we're just too stupid to understand, too. Even the bottle that came out looking like one of these, with toy potions inside(and they don't even look like real metal, but spray painted plastic). So yeah.. it's gotten old. This whole era in general has been such a letdown compared to what she's truly capable of creating.

And now she posted this, probably because she's oversensitive to criticism and doesn't like how many people vocally hated the 'EVIL' visualizer. What did she honestly expect? This era has been a mess. She's always pulled the "clearly you just don't get my art" card though, so I guess I'm not surprised. Like girl, what the fuck are you talking about.. you literally make art for consumption. It's YOUR JOB.

If she didn't just mean that she was waiting on outside funds, I'm confused. Because it almost sounds like she's saying she doesn't care to flesh out the era if she can't make the film, and is only putting out 13 MVs to get it over with now/match her past numbers. I know compromise isn't her thing- but come on. She could've just cut the script to fit 13 slightly longer MVs, solving the "problem" and negating her need for 13 unnecessary, plotless placeholders. PORTALS is already a 1hr6m album, each video backed by thousands at least, so it's crazy that she's acting like there's not enough time or money to execute her ideas in MVs. Other artists don't even get more than 1 or 2 videos per album.. It's odd seeing her waste her opportunities.

That Trilogy teaser, man.. I'm not enjoying this era at all anymore, and cannot believe we're nearly a year into it now and it still has almost zero substance. I'd rather see a 3 minute video of her talking, without the mask, and get nothing else for months than be fed crappy CGI teasers and bad music videos with a dash of boring, faceless live shows. I was listening to DEATH yesterday too, and all I could think of was how wasted its potential was! She could've made her most powerful, heartfelt and beautiful MV yet(same with VOID) but instead it felt overdone and underdone all at once. I'm confused at what she's trying to achieve here, and I definitely don't want to know what a Portals movie would look like if the MVs can't even land. Just disappointed with this era all around.

She said it was her favorite video she'd planned so it sucks we never got to see it. Bakery was probably a lot easier/cheaper to make though(+covid restrictions), so I get it. Maybe her ideas can be reused someday if they weren't too specific to the After School theme? If not, eh. Just add it to the "our losses" pile, lol.

No you're right, I'll rep Eraser with you. It doesn't seem to be very well liked here I guess, but it means a lot to me despite the.. K-12ness? Of the lyrics. And I'm sure a lot of us here can relate to the idea of wishing that you could just erase abuse, suffering, and memories of people who hurt you from your life, but knowing you just have to carry it with you. Easily one of the better leaks from that era, with a really nice instrumental(closer to Cry Baby than the rest of K-12 IMO).

The new pics of her and Verde from his @VerdeWhatever IG are cute, but I also can't help but laugh at her being all "I am NOT that rich" when they're in some luxury restaurant or clothing store in almost all their photos, lol

I truly respect her wish for privacy, but I also really wish we'd get more looks into her creative process every now and then to make up for how little anyone sees or hears from her. Like, we don't need to know what she buys at the grocery store, who designs her underwear, or where she bought her latest keychain.. We just want to get a closer look at what it looks like when she's in her creative space. For someone who wants her fans to be so connected to her, she allows surprisingly few opportunities for that these days. But I guess that's the double edged sword of her career- she wants connection, but not the attention and expectations that it comes with.

Right? I cannot picture the Melanie that wrote A Million Men, Rough Love, Birthing Addicts, etc. writing shit like Class Fight or Nymphology. Just look at these(written around 28YO).. VS this for example(written when she was still a kid, with no help). We all know what made a lot of her art so special was the maturity and depth behind childish themes/titles. And her lyrics aren't all bad now, they just haven't evolved half as far as I expected them to. The leaks show that she's still capable of amazing writing if she lets herself outside of the box though so hopefully she ditches the forced concepts next time.. I can't handle another mediocre album from her.

It's crazy how her art and lyrics made so much more sense when she was still basically a child than it does now, like some weird backwards evolution. She was 16 making grown adults cry in coffee shops with nothing but her voice and acoustic guitar. Now we're here. It just goes to show how getting so absorbed in your art isn't always a good thing if you aren't fully fleshing it out and taking your ideas one at a time. 🙃

Yep. She constantly goes beyond her means and pushes for the most from her label. That attitude often gets labeled as "determined" and "artistic", but it's really just unrealistic at this point. It's not like Atlantic doesn't back her with millions of dollars for all of her projects, pay for all the videos she insists on making, and go along with her demanding behavior. So she's got plenty of funding- she just doesn't know how to use it. It's ruining her chances at the success she should've had. I really hope in the future she learns to commit to quality over quantity instead of cutting up her ideas to cram into a budget just because she can't compromise. If $6.5M wasn't enough to make K-12 work, I don't even know what she expects out of Portals.

Wow, BYE lol. She may not literally make millions at once, but she is/was a millionaire, and if she's going into debt that's probably her fault for not making better decisions after Cry Baby(K-12 was a $6M failure) and spending so much money on weird shit. All the clothes, vacations, accessories worth thousands of dollars that she's bought over the past few years cannot have all been gifted to her, and she just made over 18K from her fans on Depop alone. She's not fucking broke. She seems to whine a lot about money though, even when Cry Baby boosted her onto the top charts and made millions when she was just a teenager. I had a lot of respect for her but this era has tanked that entirely.

Bye. Sounds like she's releasing it as an "art piece" first because she knows if she releases singles now, almost no one will want this ugly ass 1FT bottle. The design is literally just a grey pot with an uncanny valley creature head on top like one of those cartoon character apple juice bottles at the grocery store checkout. She could have done so much better.. just look at the Cry Baby perfume. I've defended her a lot in the past, but I can't act like this one is just an "artistic career choice" or whatever- it's just dumb.
