Not this bitch again. Wish we could all collectively agree to ignore her instead of giving her more attention And besides, that AI recording is literally just saying shit Melanie has already said years ago. I don't get why anyone is even paying this shit any mind.

But she probably never will because it "dOeSn'T FiT HeR ViSioN".. even though her "vision" has been all over the place lately to begin with and, at times, is just poorly executed(K-12). I don't see why she seems to think it'd ruin the flow of her discography to release any of her top leaks when it'd probably just bring her a ton of money and revive her 2015-17 popularity. It's not like she hasn't released songs separate from her concept albums before, anyway. And it's almost self sabotage to dig your heels in so hard to get exactly what you want all the time even if it's way above your means as an artist, but not be willing to do simple things like putting out better merch and releasing fan-favorite tracks to make that money. The way she's been talking about this film budget is like she's just waiting for some producer to notice how special she is and drop a cool few millions into her lap and say "have fun!". It's honestly really strange.

It's not her standing up to the BS rumors that bothers me, but the fact that she's pretty much only been showing up and speaking as herself lately when she's checking fans on social media, or on the radio in full costume with some awful voice filter. It doesn't feel like we're really getting Melanie Martinez anymore, or even getting her full "vision" for Portals because she's insisting on waiting until her film gets greenlit(which may never happen) to give us the full context for the album. What's the point? This whole era and new persona of hers is just so far removed from all of the things that made her past work so special, IMO.

This era is already getting boring and messy to me, I'm sorry. We have so little info on the new character, almost every single tour show was the same, the videos were nothing but CGI vomit and disconnected visuals to me, and we've basically been getting zero presence from Melanie outside of her having to call out her own fans on TikTok and Instagram for making shit up(like several times just in this month alone). I don't blame her for not wanting anything to do with her fanbase lately, but I really didn't expect her to pretty much disappear to the point of not even posting photos or using her own voice in interviews, lol.. I don't even feel like this is the same artist anymore.

It might've worked if she saved some of the tracks for another post-release EP, and swapped the outtakes with more theme fitting songs similar to Garden or Corpse. BOTL, Evil, Moon Cycle, Contortionist, and Powder would've been good choices to put together. I also wish she'd used the K+OL versions of the leaks if she was going to use them at all. Their demos of TV and FS are so good they make the released versions of the songs sound like the demos, lol. And I'm not saying that security breach wasn't a huge fuck up, but they were victims in that just as much as she was, and that music would've been their magnum opus together. Sucks.

I think this era feels off because it's riding a line of being her most personal(lyrics) and most impersonal(costume, voice changer, etc) so far. We have no idea how some songs fit the theme, no storyline context, and don't even know Cryptid Baby's name. It's very different from CB and K-12 coming with built-in explanation- literally a whole storybook for CB. I don't see why she's holding back now when that context is so relevant to her success. This album also has a low quality of production compared to her others and the mass leaks got a lot of fans excited for songs that wouldn't get to the final album, creating disappointment in music they might've otherwise loved(K+OL, we're so sorry). Let's just hope when the TV music video comes around it gives us some actual plot, and gives the trolls in the fanbase something better to do than stir constant drama.. If it takes until the end of the era or until the movie comes out to get a real clue wtf is going on though, I'm out lol.

Damn, I almost thought that was fake. I mean, I agree, and I'm not blaming her for the drama, but does she not know her fanbase at all? They frequently bully the actual fuck out of anyone who looks at her the wrong way. It's a huge part of why she avoids interacting with us so I'm not sure why she's surprised this is happening. You know a bunch of fans are just going to use this as an excuse to make up even crazier shit like "He'S tHreaTenInG tO sUe hEr foR eXpoSInG hiM!!!" too, lol. Artists always wait until the shit hits the fan to speak up though. It's giving "Taylor Swift writing songs about her exes and acting surprised when her rabid fans continue to harass them every single time"

I feel like there's a rift happening in the fandom and I'm not sure if it's for better or worse. There's a lot of division(mostly over the costume and drastic visual changes) but hardly any discussion, if there is it usually ends up in people getting into personal arguments, and it feels like the hype for PORTALS went as fast as it came. Like.. I hear crickets. It was literally more active when we were just sitting around waiting months for a new picture of her than it has been since the album came out and she started touring. And I understand there's not as much to talk about compared to previous eras, but still.. I guess that's just the result of this era being so far removed from the image she's cultivated for a decade now.

Saw her cute TikTok about the Portals tour, and I just gotta say, controversy about the mask aside, god damn that shit is secure. With the way she's been dancing this era I'm genuinely surprised that it hasn't flown off yet, lmao.

I swear she must be so done with these dumbass edits being constantly spread about her, and the gullible ass fans that keep believing it every time. And they wonder why all of their favorite artists hate them, lol

A Portals movie could be fun(as long as it wasn't using the same style as these MVs), but after K-12 I'm not sure. K-12 was pretty, but a pretty mess, that lost a good amount of money. And not only did she fail to notice that her script was way too long(3+ hours) until Atlantic told her to chill, but she then failed to edit it down in a way that still made sense, and released it knowing that it wasn't really "finished". She preaches a lot about taking your time to perfect your art, but also puts out a lot of half-baked concepts that could've been perfect with a few adjustments. At the very least she's going to have to loosen the reigns and stop trying to do everything by herself if she wants a successful movie.

Right? I can see why some fans are already bored/unhappy with the Portals era. It probably feels underwhelming at times compared to the huge K-12 era that started with a full length film and super stylized tours. Her style(especially in MV direction) is also super different now, and I know some people just hate this era and character in general. But that being said, Portals literally just came out. Can't we admit that it wasn't all of ours' favorite album without pushing her to "make up for it" immediately with a whole new one? This shit can take years even for the artists that churn out music constantly. What we see isn't everything. There's a lot of behind the scenes work that can't be rushed if we're so desperate for good music.

Yeah, Garden too. I use a mixer to adjust it. 98% speed and -0.55 pitch for both, which doesn't sound like much of a difference but definitely is! Maze is also my favorite at 95% speed -0.50 pitch. Speaking of which, god damn, I still can't get over the top tier demos we got from AS and Portals. Most could pass for finished, and a few are arguably even better produced than the official releases. I hate to say it but thank god they leaked before they disappeared for good, lol. Sorry, Melanie.

Anyway though, Faerie Soiree just got a teaser(few months late) from her vacation in Mexico, so she might still be putting out some clips for the rest of the songs after all. I remember when we found out that her team was staying there with her too, and got excited thinking she must be filming already. Turns out, it was just a vacation she used as a fun excuse to test out her prosthetics and take some cool location photoshoots, lol. I wonder how many sets we haven't seen yet though and I wish she'd post more often. But that's just one of the downfalls of this era. We'll get less photos when she has to do so much extra work in makeup just to take a single photo.

Never saw anything about that in site guidelines, but I spoiler tagged and NSFW tagged before I posted for that reason. Will remove it if it's an issue. I just think that if there's one thing this fandom could benefit from, it's acknowledging and shaming the behavior that certain stans are normalizing online. It's bleeding into straight up harassment towards artists, and I don't see why we expect them to want anything to do with their fans when all it takes is two wrong clicks for them to find some shit like that about themselves posted by some 17 year old stranger.

Relistening now and her Lollapalooza performances this year were so good. Especially Argentina! You can really hear how much her voice has changed. I'm kind of wishing the studio versions sounded more like the live band too, it adds so much depth(Faerie Soiree live) Also, I'll never get tired of Maze. It's the definition of "simple but effective". Wish it got an official release but I'm just glad we got it at all, lol.

I'm sorry, but what? Melanie wasn't "following a trend".. This music was clearly personal to her, and was finished by the end of 2022, before the people I was referring to even shared their own stories(one of them literally being today). And I don't think you can call the chick walking around in a pink alien fairy costume a "trend follower" anyway, lol. Second, the mixing on certain songs is bad because CJ decided to go crazy on the de-S'er, not because Melanie decided to write a few songs about her shitty ex. She produced VOID all by herself and it still has better mixing than a lot of the songs he worked on. I also think you're misunderstanding how much freedom and choice an artist has under a label like Atlantic Records.. There's no way they'd let her release years worth of back-catalog, press records and CDs, and give her a promo budget. They really don't even let their top artists have that kind of control over their releases. Lastly, I'd definitely call putting a recording of Oliver Tree on cocaine attacking her in her own home at the end of 'LEECHES' a nuclear move. And good for her, he deserves to be exposed for the bitch he is if that's how he really is behind closed doors.

Such a good question actually, @Coloringbooks might be able to give you a legit answer. If not, the easiest bet is to pull up the PORTALS timeline and look closely at sessions made after they supposedly broke up, but before she announced it. And then of course, everything after that too. I just think it's pretty telling that October/November of 2020 is when she starts writing songs like Void, Garden, etc., then in late 2021 - early 2022, we get songs like EVIL. As if she was trying to be subtle in the beginning, and not draw attention to who she was really talking about, but after a couple years decided he didn't deserve that much.. personally I support that. This just genuinely seems to be the year that so many people, Melanie included, have decided to go nuclear on their narcissistic exes. As a survivor of a violent narcissist myself, I truly hope to see the trend continue.
