The songs came from a rick nowels hack along with music from other artists. They were not from her soundcloud.

Ooo. That's news to me. I recall downloading a lot of her early Mixtapes and such off Soundcloud. I assumed HBH was just another one that got yoinked like the others.

does anyone have info on the heartbreak high ep? i assume it is a fanmade thing but i was looking the charli tracker on driver and it lists some songs as being from this ep, as if it is a real scrapped project so i got confused

It's real-ish. It was released on her Soundcloud, but very, very briefly, before being pulled down. Alleged a leak, or material that wasn't officially sanctioned for release.

Here's one of the articles written about it at the time it came out.

A lot of her recent writing is really "I'm 14 and this is deep". Pretty much all of K-12 is the poster child for this issue, but her singing about her period like it's some transformative spiritual experience that will ascend her to a higher level of consciousness is next level, lol. At least the song is catchy, I'll give it that, but the lyrics are atrocious

Listening to the snippet of Battle of the Larynx - it's giving me this, tbh. I get what she's going for, but the second I heard "I'll wreck you if you chase me but I'll be silent till you cross a line" I cringed. It's giving High School Sweethearts Pt. 2 a la it's "If you fuck me over I will rip your face apart" and "If you cheat, you will die" bits.

She seems to really love placing herself in these fantastical "moments of victory" bits where she's rather violently clawing at something or someone or some kind of ideal, and always the victor despite the circumstance. The writing puts me in a place where I can't tell if she's trying to manufacture a specific image that just keeps coming off as disingenuous and try-hard, or if she's actually serious and in which case it then her lyrics just read to me as emotionally immature and underdeveloped.

Well the new record is more fantasy / creature oriented. No sign of a single diaper / baby bottle. 💀 I think we’ve finally been saved from that with this album

You can still have baby creatures and diaper fantasy, come on now. We can still snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

ok, im back on board - this hook is a collapse :beyonce:

Hello why is this wiping my memory of all bad things surrounding her and replacing them with a longing desire for a successful album rollout hello?

  6. Burning my braincells trying to finish a project before a presentation at work and Charli is the playlist currently and Tables comes on and now I have to stop work to come and complain that I need a full 4 minute and 38 second complete chorus refrain pre-chorus bridge second verse extended vocal outro version of this damn thing.

Manifesting whatever universe that exists in to just pull me into it, thanks.

I am counting on the webstore to be more of a splatter. The bloodshot could easily be blah like the Midnights pressings, too clear and hardly any marbling.

Webstore and UO likely to be the most rare. I think Bloodshot is the standard pressing.

That's my worry too - not enough marbling. I've got some records that are gorgeous, and others where it's like....there's a 1inch circle where there's vaguely some marbling and it's just otherwise opaque.

I could just be a crackhead and buy multiple variants. Idk.

  8. I've moved past my K-12 PTSD and am ready to embrace this ho again and I'm looking at all the stupid vinyl variants and I cannot decide for the life in my gay body which one to get.

UO Green and Target Red are out of the running.

But I cannot decide on any of the rest. B&N Pink is cute and safe, Walmart is ok, and the two webstore ones are nice, but I'm hesitant on the one because that page says "swirl" on the vinyl when it is in fact more a "splatter" mock up (like is the final actually gonna be like the picture, or is gonna bait and switch on us), and the 'bloodshot translucent' has the potential to be cool....or it has the potential to look like magenta mud.

How it looks spinning on the turntable has a very palpable impact on my enjoyment ok.

i wonder how much (if at all) yelle influenced problematique, it shares so much with complètement fou! the french pop thing, very "cotton candy pop" sound (don't ask me to explain what that means pls), both albums being produced by dr. luke… i think i might be onto something :oprah3:

Pinning this in the back of my mind when she releases "35" and takes Adele's spot as Brit Ballad Queen

Ty, but it's all good now. That was turn of the 2000's (I'm old :crai:), they got divorced, shit got worse, shit got better, and I moved out and on my own. Personal philosophy is that the past was perfect - shit happens the way it happens because given the factors of life and universe at the time; there was no other way things could have gone.

If it didn't go that way, maybe I wouldn't be vibing here on Analboards. :smokes:

you dont need to have personally experienced a song's topic/lyrical content to enjoy the song itself.

You know, it's funny you say that - tangental *it's about me* moment - that's part of why Cry Baby hit me hard. VERY specifically Dollhouse. That was my family, on a surface level. I had the parents covering shit up. I had the cheating Dad. I had the sibling who was dabbling in drugs. I had to be the "role model" child. Parents went from being literal millionaires to not being able to pay the light bill and using the laundromat because of their own dumbassery, but whipping us kids to "keep up appearances" and just swallow our issues. Like that song just *got* me, and the albums concept of a troubled childhood just sunk right in like lotion on dry skin.

I mean it was underwhelming, specially for all the years it took to make. It has its good moments but songs like Class Fight, Strawberry Shortcake and Orange Juice totally ruin it for me, the tracks sound really similar and there’s few upbeat moments. That said, what completely ruined the era for me was the “movie” if u can call that a movie… so f-ing bad written it made me cringe to even think I was hyped about that (in my defense she came though in the CB music videos till that date so expectations were high). For me to say I hate it it’s a strong word, I did enjoy specially the run from Nurces Office to Drama Club a lot, even if now I don’t come back to listen to it as much as CB.

I will say this of it all; it was ambitious.

And, if I'm going to be human, not all projects and ideas pan out in reality to their concepts, and not all projects are going to get universal acclaim from critics or fans, so.

I'm happy to chalk that up to the 'Sophomore Slump', and see what she does now that she's lifted Grimes's aesthetic for this next album cover.

    I swear y’all hate K-12!! :thumb3:

Hate is literally the weakest word in existence for my take on that album. And I say that as someone who was hyped for it. Waiting for it. Had popcorn and everything for the whole long-ass debut of the album-movie on YouTube.

After sitting through it, I suddenly understood why every single review and news article for it from that time kept mentioning the 6 mil price tag attached to it; they were trying to justify that it was good because of what it cost.

I have nothing constructive to say on that album. This comment is as civil as I can be. Everything else is a primordial surge of frustration and anger riding on the expectations I had of her on Crybaby.

I want this next album to recoup some of that energy I had for her and grow it into something warm and adoring again. Desperately wanting it.

    I’m not even excited, I wish I was but…it’s just not there:pft:

This is me. I have PTSD from K-12 still. In my head she's only ever had 1 album still.

  19. Sliding into the thread wondering if there's a masterpost of stuff cause it seems that there's been some stuff leaked/demos floating and I'd like to sample some before I preorder any album material please and thank you.

How do i admit that i like the shitty unfinished scarppy nokia fish more than the album/deluxe ver-ready (esp post xcx3) songs with OUT getting shot? They feel raw and messy, theyre not perfect but they  capture a single motif or emotion like a lightning in a bottle. It helps that they arent the kind of songs artists even offically put out. WvW is my favorite recent leak, it’s like if pink diamond was actually good. The last batch of leaks I cared for was in mid-late 2021. Lay with U and The Party’s never over are some of my favorite charli songs fo all time.

You just come out and say it bestie. :hooker:

Depending on the artist and the song, I enjoy a rough draft, or even a stripped down "here's just vocals and a basic beat" versions. To me, greatness comes from range, and range comes from contrast, and seeing it in a finished collection of work is wonderful, but seeing it happen in the creation process within a single track over time is also neat.

Difference for me though is that if I'm throwing one of my regular house parties, I'm not throwing on that Nokia-quality music in the playlist. I want that HQ polish so I can goop the girlies with the "wait who TF is this and what TF is that song?" when they drop.

I think we can safely assume that she got a very favorable contract if she signed it

It's also only two albums; that seems short compared to what I usually hear artists signing?
