then with her losing motivation after FROOT and possibly being pressured into releasing L+F earlier than she was ready

im convinced that she was bound by contract that she needed to release an album every x amount of years. I remember one interview where she just randomly went "yeah, y'know it's not because I've signed a contract with atlantic records and I need to fulfil that contract". Like no one even questioned it, at all? But also she was like after a year of quitting I was still writing and wasn't allowing myself to stop. She quit in 2016, meaning she fully allowed herself to quit in 2017 (but a majority of LF outtakes were recorded during this time, so when did she quit? It definitely wasn't in 2018 because she recorded most of the final tracklist during this time. so um girl when did you properly quit?

I think the earlier tracks from the album are much better. I think she was writing for herself, opposed to release something. Then as she begun to come back to music more, she felt more pressured. But then she said that LF was made from a place that was not influenced by ego or validation.

Maybe it's the 4th album curse, idk. But I would've never seen marina make L+F, it's like so different, it feels so incohesive in my opinion, like AllForYou said, she used to do complete packages, Land + Fill felt more like an envelope that was posted without a postage stamp and got lost in the royal mail strikes. Like the only final LF tracks I could see Marina writing would be To Be Human, Handmade Heaven, Too Afraid and Soft To Be Strong, maybe End of The Earth too.

How did she go from puns like Shampain, EVOL and Just Desserts, that were all very well written, and authentic to her (imo) to OOOOORANGE TREES.

    Spoiler

the way apple music doesnt count it as an album kills me so much :lmao:

Her poem doesn't look THAT bad if she would type it like this tho

      Hide contents

I was the type of girl to swallow the world whole

    ingest it all

I felt too much, needed too much

there would never be enough love.

Insatiable endless black hole of everythingness

starving for everything I didn't need

    malnourished

    by placebos of love.

    Vitamins

    called success, attention, money, fame

pissed out unaware into luxurious japanese toilet bowls

nothing could touch the sides of my crippling black star jet black hole of noise

no boyfriend, magazine cover, chart sale, sold out tour, million dollar contract

could satiate my stomach ache for love

I thought if I ate the world I would finally be full

I would never be hungry again

I was wrong, of course I was

this isn't a movie, this is real life

a ragged jagged pill of a life

a whirl of clothes, cars, photoshoots, planes

    tears, traumas, studio strains

    approve, approve, approve

    try, try, try

    grind, grind, grind

to be heard, seen, valued, understood

by men with no knowledge of real womanhood

who held my power in their purses

owned my chorus and my verses

    But now I am free

of what I had to sever

I am free of the hunger

    lighter than a feather

I am free of those men

    and prolific like heather

    I ate the whole world

    and I'll eat it forever

Can't say I love it, but this way it's a) way easier to read and understand and b) it makes the poem seem better than it is

    Structure do be everything though

50% can't blame em (prime place to find some trade), but also like, put down the thirst bby and engage with the music.

Sorry for the double quote but

Maeve's opening act was shit cause the sound guy messed up, there was WAY TOO MUCH low-end and you could barely hear her singing.

Then Tove Stryke was cute but we were all over waiting 2 hours for marina tbf

GDI not me missing the 1k post by....1 post.

I'll dump the rest of my (good) photos and vids later.

I was 5th row @ her show in DC. It was so lovely - but she spent so much time on the other side of the stage. I was like, center-left, and she spent all her life center-right :cryney:

she made eye contact with me, nearly passed out.

Some old man tried to steal my spot.

The guy next to me was on Grindr during the opening acts

SYNESTHETES RISE AND REARRANGE ALL ALBUMS :oprah4:

I was talking about sound synthesis ('the technique of generating sound, using electronic hardware or software, from scratch. The most common use of synthesis is musical, where electronic instruments called synthesizers are used in the performance and recording of music.')

But yes I have synaesthesia too

You are right, D&A needed a production rework…

only track I miss there is To Be Human, I would put It right after Karma and It would be perfect for me

    TRUE ACTUALLY

I really wish she kept the same structure of the track from the demo

Thats a nice tracklist actually, maybe not her best album yet better than what L+F ended up to be

I know. In an ideal world, she would've slightly reworked DA's drums because they wouldn't fit but that doesn't exist so :thumb3:

Also EOTE is one of my favourite LF released tracks, it just works so well. I'm remaking it for my synthesis module :twirls:

Demons & Angels and Please Dont Call Me are BOPs!!’

Also L+F is too long, a 11 song run would have made It better in my opinion

    lemme laugh in draft tracklists

I love DA and PDCM. I feel like DA would've needed a rework to be sonically cohesive on the album (just because of those trap drums, my dad always says they remind him of a james bond film?) PDCM was amazing and should've replaced You on the tracklist imo. I just feel like You is a watered down version of PDCM, if you get me?

My DREAM L+F tracklist is as follows:

    Spoiler

    Karma (Demo Version)

    Please Don't Call Me

    Demons & Angels

    Handmade Heaven

    Beautiful World

    Water Under The Bridge

    Superstar

    Emotional Machine

    No More Suckers

    Too Afraid (Demo)

    End of The Earth

Was just listening back to the 2018 Captain Cuts version of Karma and yeah Jack really bulldozed that for what :flop: That demo is amazing, has hit potential, we did not need a mean version of Baby

The second piano demo is my fav icl. The vocal chops in the captain cuts version is fucking horrific :crai:

But I think that some elements from that demo would've made a great final.

She should've replaced baby with disconnect, orange trees with Holiday (they go hand in hand imo) and then replaced You and Karma with different versions

See I agree, because there are some great tracks on the released album and some really great outtakes, but at that point.. it isn’t L+F anymore :toofunny: it’s just a fanmade album

and while a lot of those changes would make the album more bearable for me, I still feel like it lacks.. importance? a purpose? idk

Whenever I hate on L+F I definitely only mean the version that was released, it had potential to be different and be enjoyable for me personally, however what was released just wasn’t.:crai: oh well, the past is the past

forever blaming atlantic and jack icl :true:

but also he gave us bops like Absent Love, Doubt Your Love, Believe In Love, Please Don't Call Me, What I Wanna Do, Worth It, End of The Earth, You and Too Afraid

he also gave us the adiaml bops of Highly Emotional People, Flowers, I Love You But I Love Me More, Pandora's Box and Goodbye

i took my bitterness and made it sweet

hating love + fear is just cliche'd at this point. sure it's nowhere near as excellent as her first three albums but it's got some cute moments

tbf  i think (and this is my opinion based from personal experiences) that to enjoy LF you need to be in a certain mindset? I think that LF is more mature lyrically and arguably sonically in the sense that the production is very polished and clean. And as I've grown and matured, I've found myself being able to appreciate some of the LF songs more and also find connection with them? Idk it might just be me but that's how I feel tbf
