  1. Hey cool down. I said that she could aim to be a popstar but I doubt that she has what it takes. And I also said that I hope that she will evolve lyrically with a different interesting sound and she will continue being critically acclaimed (that is what I expect from Honeymoon). So chill and watch your mouth
  2. I'm still questioning what happened with the UV era and why she's releasing so soon another album. I have 3 scenarios: 1. The depressing scenario. She wants to get out of her contract with Interscope and she has 3 albums to do and so she rushed the release so she won't get any penalties. Then she will go indie (aka she will do whatever she wants) or she will retire for a while or forever (have babies etc.). This is a career harakiri but is consistent with her obvious lack of confidence in everything she does, with her depression, with her statements that she didn't enjoy anything so far in the music business, that she didn't find peers, with her stage fright and her refusal to shine in the limelight and especially to perform outside her comfort zone. Maybe she's acknowledging that she's not capable to be a great performer or to evolve as a songwriter (I think that UV is overall better lyrically than BTD but not at VG level). In this scenario I expect a ”rushed album” with no hits, no promo, that will have a negative reception critically and commercially and will not have anything to do with her announced tour that will be renamed the "Farewell" tour. This seems like far fetched, would be a total let down of her fans and is not consistent at all with the announcement of her tour (big venues) and with her position in the business that other (good) musicians are incapable of attaining even after a lifetime of hard work. But is she capable of basically shit on everything that she accomplished? Unfortunately yes, the UV video, the Letterman, Virgin radio France, BBC live lounge last minute cancellations are hints that she is capable to make irrational decisions based on her anxieties. 2. The pop megastar scenario. UV was a critic silencer (worked pretty well) but she doesn't want to lose her mainstream appeal so she's preparing a big release with heavy promo, with a few legitimate hits, with TV performances etc. This is inconsistent with everything that I presented above but is consistent with her current status (on radar moderate pop star) and the obvious interest of her label to milk her commercial potential at max. This scenario will work if the label will be at the helm of this era preparing it like a proper big pop release (radio, tv, magazines, promotion of hits, videos with high production etc). In this scenario I expect a GP friendly sound and theme, more coherent that BTD (fewer songs) and HITS (on the radio and charts). Maybe she still craves that level of pop stardom and she's finally willing to do what it takes. I highly doubt this scenario because I don't see her transforming in a confident, all around performer. 3. The boring scenario. Honeymoon will be an era in the UV vein (no extreme outcomes), with a different sound but the same lanaesque lyrics and her career will slowly dwindle down unless she would be capable to make a better album artistically than UV. This is the scenario that I hope for that she'll evolve lyrically and combined with a new interesting sound she will get more critically acclaimed.
  3. Lana's Big Eyes wasn't nominated for the Oscars! I have an in between feeling about it. A part of me is less anxious about what will go wrong about her appearances but I would love to see her perform.
  4. I hope that she'll not perform tbh. She's not ready yet in my opinion. Another fiasco will be disastrous for her career (the Oscars are even bigger than SNL). I criticized her for her appearance at the Globes but I think that the reactions in the media were disproportionate, she is more beautiful than the majority on that carpet even with a sack on her. The conclusion: the american media is not ready to make her a true star and they will not forgive any mistake of hers (they are magnifying everything bad and trivializing everything good she does). Somewhat I don't want her to be even nominated after the Globes reaction. She needs to get more confident about herself and she has to work hard on her live performance (which I doubt she'll do) and then she'll be ready to shine (because she has the voice, the looks and the music to be one of the greatest stars ever).
  5. I like curvaceous women. For me Lana is one of the most beautiful women with all of the little imperfections of hers. But you have to be aware of your possibilities: if you gain in weight you have to adjust accordingly when you are selecting your outfits. When you're getting older (Lana is 30 this year) you have to be more careful with your looks, the "I don't give a fuck how I look" attitude isn't working for her anymore, she needs to be on point from now on. If you're not taking care of yourself you are going downhill quickly regarding your looks. Let's be real her looks plays a part in her appeal. I think that her attitude was changed during her relationship with Barrie: that guy had a negative influence on her in everything except in music.
  6. Everybody says nice things about her hair. I love her hair most of the time but now it seems off to me I don't like it. Everything feels so cheap: the dress, the hair ..as I said above this I'm a humble singer thing doesn't fit with her music, with her image, I don't understand her but that's her thing I saw her with her mother in some candids and Pat was dressed 2 classes above her and looked more confident
  7. She's a beauty, but: 1. She's not pregnant... 2. She needs to fire Johnny Blueyes asap (her appearance at the Globes was subpar, to put it mildly) 3. She needs to let go this "I wore cheap looking clothes and shoes so that people will stop saying that I came from money” (they won't) 4. Let that Priscilla Presley impersonator shtick go (I love it but enough it's enough) Now I'm sure that she needs an image refreshment overhaul for the new era because the whole 60-70's shtick gets tired. Lana is slowly getting uncool and what is baffling is that it seems that she is working hard on that.
  8. It's hard to compare the videos artistically but there is a simple way to see how popular they were/are.She had only two proper videos this era which I think that are not suitable for the youtube spamming demographic: the use of Mahoney in the SoC video turned off a lot of people and WC video is a mess conceptually (they cut off a lot of scenes). We have practically two videos for WC, the audio version samples the proper video which was a bad move in my opinion (the audio version has more views than the full video version). Here are some facts: BTD era: Born to Die: 160.276 views/day VG (2 releases): 112.405 views/day Blue Jeans: 107.000 views/day National Anthem (3 releases): 56.684 views/day UV era: WC (audio+full video): 175.292 views/day WC (only full video): 97.561 views/day SoC: 89.109 views/day Lana's best: YB: 188.193 views/day So this era is not that bad but it can be observed a significant drop in the number of views. I think that we have to take in consideration the lack of promotion and the music itself which is less appealing to that youtube spamming demographic (those disappointed that UV wasn't BTD 2.0).
  9. The quality fan vs. quantity fan (sales, charts etc.) (yawn). Quantity fans are obnoxious when their stanning is based solely on how massively their stanning is validated by others. MIAM is silly sometimes but knows a lot about the commercial, charting and promotional aspects of music. This is a legitimate part of being a fan. But as I said Lana isn't the noir pop princess MIAM want her to be: she cannot perform live at that level and, generally, she's not willing to shine in the limelight. The way she's dressing in public (at events or in candids) for example is a statement that she doesn't want any of that pop princess stuff (I think that she purposely selects the cheapest and ugliest shoes available). So let her be that half indie half mainstream weirdo that she's comfortable with.
  10. Give me a live TV performance as an example..you can't... because there is none. Maybe she has conflicts with her label, but not singing West Coast on Letterman? Why? Is like shooting your own foot
  11. Well the Lana I know will never be the artist you dream of. She doesn't have a pop star's confidence and frankly she's not putting up a show for the non-hardcore fan. Her concerts are like gatherings with her fans, singalongs where she often seems disconnected or disoriented (forgiven by her fans). She's not behaving like an entertainer and I think that she believes that she's more than an entertainer and doesn't take this part seriously. I love her voice but in my opinion she's not the best singer live (technically). She knows that and that's why she chickened out from all the live performances that were on TV for the promotion of UV (Letterman, Le Grand Journal etc. sick my ass). She had not sung on TV or big musical bonanzas in the last two years. At Glastonbury her voice was all over the place (I saw the live stream in HD and she was awful). She can sing but she has no confidence and professionalism regarding her performances so she's just half of the artist that you want her to be. I believe that she will not sing at the Golden Globes or Oscars and I doubt that she will even attend unless she will dragged there by Harvey. You know another pop artist who wouldn't perform all the late night shows with her arguably great Golden Globe nominated song? Let face it she will make another studio album that will not include any big hit that will demand live performances that she's not willing to do. I love her anyway but I don't have unrealistic expectations from her
  12. I agree that after UV (her best album) repeating BTD would be a wrong move from her. But how interesting is that she never did drugs as far as I know (besides that alleged alcohol problem). She never dated really fucked up men (when I see Barrie I always chuckle when I remember that he was described by her as an dark character). Carozzini is, at worst, a womanizer who takes her out to idyllic beach strolls. I wouldn't be surprised that she changes her fantasy and she will write harmless romantic songs with a little bit of mind fucking (the noir stuff).
  13. She looks beautiful, at peace with herself and she sounds more confident. It's hard to explain something like creating a song that for you is mostly an intuitive and emotional process
