while we’re on Henry territory here I’ll be honest, i was gagged at first as i always am when Lana drops stuff but then time sets in and i get a clearer view of what i fw and what I don’t and like many have said Henry sounds like a cute little tune à la NAWWAL she wrote on a whim and tbh it can stay in the drafts as far as I’m concerned (not even going to mention the mixing sounds underwhelming and too quiet again and i really need good instrumental mixing this time). while we’re being honest, musically speaking, transitions in between eras have stopped being abrupt since after Norman, as in she has kinda glided from one album to the next keeping a similar sound, at times folksy, at times surf-rockish, with the occasional hip hop reference she’s been known for (which i think she’s only sticking to so that bratty fans don’t complain she’s stopped doing trap altogether, which I’m fairly sure she will at some point) I personally think what we are hearing is Lana trying to re-brand her sound. Sounds between BTD/UV/HM are quite different but when the song demos leaked we could hear the sounds from one era bleeding into the sound of the new era, but then eventually when the music came out it was fully formed. Right now we are going from one album to the next and the change is happening as we listen to it, which can be interesting but also boring. Having said that, I personally have no idea what to expect. Her next move could as easily be another collection of songs with her trying to settle into a newfound sound as a new sound altogether. I won’t lie, I would rather she smacked us in the face with something different but if she’s just going to give us more folk Americana i would at the very least love for it to be some kind of Ride meets Wild One idk something like Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska but I’m not sure that’s where she is emotionally right now. Ok sorry about the Ted talk 💀

Yea I totally see what you’re saying. The mixing is weird, the volume constantly goes up and down in waves. On Norman title track and Mac I have to constantly fiddle with the volume bar because the verses are quieter and then the chorus are super loud. Chemtrails is definitely worse, some songs seem to have almost no instrumentals on the verses (wild at heart and even title track). At that level it must be a stylistic choice though, right? However, it’s more apparent on cd rather than vinyl (at least it is for Norman, I don’t own any of the Chemtrails variants on vinyl)

I don’t even know if I want Henry at this point , it’s been a decade hey blue baby and I must be stupid are ancient and prettiest girl sounded more like some light hearted fun song, something I would expect from one of the new girlies , surely not a 40 yo woman idk I don’t want any of these songs on Lasso, not even Country Roads - that song is so stripped down istg I’ll cry if we get any more piano-only songs and I’m a sucker for Lana’s ballads one of my top 3 is Old Money but I just need to get smacked in the face with some grit at this point I’m tired of sleeping

by the time Lasso is out the music business will be circling back to 90s alt rock 💀 ngl I don’t know why she got fixated with this country baloney, it’s been in the air for like 4 years it’s dead and gone, I wish she just let it go and explored new concepts and actually paved the way like she did with btd, uv, hm and Norman instead of chasing after whatever the music business is doing

I really disagree about the incoherency. Musically yes, but I think the main tunnel theme - going in with The Grants and walking through the darkness to come out on the other side in the light - that runs through it is what keeps the whole thing together. It’s very thematically coherent in my opinion

she described it as country, American and southern gothic with light lyrics. Now a big part of the fanbase has been focusing on southern gothic and throwing Ethel in the mix but I think these people will be very disappointed. As far as we can see Lana seems to be quite happy and resolved and I really don’t see anything in the likes of House in Nebraska or Ptolomea coming out of her bag. The way I see it, it’s more likely we’ll get something like a melodic folky-ish/country-ish sound similar to Country roads/summertime/textbook/the grants
