imbennett Posted May 28, 2023 Posted May 28, 2023 she was nervous and her mic was too low but those are really my only complaints that aren't setlist related (and my setlist requests are completely ridiculous like she is not playing freak or religion). songs were too short- that's why we need a TOUR lana, not festivals 4 Quote
Louise Posted May 28, 2023 Posted May 28, 2023 The mic or monitor becoming unplugged is what caused the glitchy audio at the start! Lana is fastidious with her vocals audio quality, so this mic slip caused what could have been a disaster, but it got fixed when she changed her costume. That is why I think she took extra time in the dressing room scene . . . to fix the mic issue. Alex saw what was going on and tried to help. 11 Quote
trailer park Posted May 28, 2023 Posted May 28, 2023 She seemed extremely nervous and it showed. Didn't sing many parts because she couldn't breathe properly, relied too much on the backing vocalists at times and also on the backing track (which is something I wish she would stop doing and is truly inexcusable for certain simple tracks). I do think she will improve a lot, but she really needs to prepare better in the future imo 1 Quote

Eugene Posted May 28, 2023 Posted May 28, 2023 my only complaint was that they took too long changing her costume... they couldn't have just put a cape on her? 1 Quote

It was meant to have an outro though, so we’re not sure how it was meant to play out.. maybe the vision will become clear next week! Tbf I think video games is a good closer.. it’s full circle from where she started, and the sentiment is still the same but different, she endures the fame for the love of her fans 18 Quote like a dream, you glide on the water and like a star, I shine from the shore

Lanaparadiserey Posted May 28, 2023 Posted May 28, 2023 I think once she was out of the whole Marylin look and just doing her thing she seemed good and not really nervous (as non-nervous as you can be performing for thousands). As iconic as it is, I think they need to cut the Marilyn part because it really drags out the beginning with her changing back to normal clothes. Maybe it can just be a coat or something because I don’t mind the doing hair on stage, I thought it was cute 12 Quote

But it is also evident that bfs & relationships are big impacts on her and on what she writes about She’s spoken at length about the process she had of writing Video Games - about a relationship where she’s essentially given up her plans as a writer/singer to live a life of domesticity with her man. A lot of people play it at their weddings and I’ve never known why because it’s beautiful, yeah, but it’s so damn sad. Not just melodically - but the overarching themes break my heart And ofc we all remember the infamous Dublin performance where L broke down singing VG on stage. Singing “it’s only worth living if somebody is loving you” at a time when felt like she wasn’t - not just in a relationship sense but in terms of fans too, being villianised by the press, being openly suicidal - is beyond heartbreaking to think But now she’s SO much happier and healthier, which is a point she’s stressed repeatedly in interviews and is apparent to see even in candid and fan photos. She told Rolling Stone in March that she has passion for making music (or words to that effect, can’t double check rn) for the first time in a decade. She’s just released an album full of healing So to me it makes perfect sense to use VG as a closer now. A) it shows full circle how far she’s come from those days when she couldn’t sing it without breaking down and B) with all the self-reflection she’s done on family and friends and so on, the lines don’t HAVE to be about a partner anymore. To me, when she says “it’s you, it’s you, it’s all for you…” she’s saying it to her fans and loved ones, because THEY are the ones she lives for now. And also for herself! I like to think she’s addressing past Lizzy on the stage of Arlene’s Grocery with her lil guitar telling her… this is for you, too, kid. (I haven’t taken my mood stabilisers yet so please excuse me.) So she’s sending her fans back out into the world after her performance telling them… this was for y’all. I think it fits beautifully. (In the same vein I think Get Free would also work, but VG ties the whole healing shit together better) Damn you just took my thoughts and worded it in the perfect way lol, if I’d seen this comment before I wouldn’t have even written my simple version haha 11 Quote like a dream, you glide on the water and like a star, I shine from the shore

Candy Necklace Posted May 28, 2023 Posted May 28, 2023 I still can’t get over how happy she looked since she walked on stage. also I would not take The Grants off the set list, it’s not in my favorite off Ocean Blvd but the live performance was so good 11 Quote

No, Alex's fingers are holding wires, and she was trying to thread a connector in. The costume might have been part of the issue. It was definitely the mic/monitor setup, what Lana depends on. Lana bravely soldiered on. She wasn't nervous, but upset. It was partially fixed or improved on during the costume change. 2 Quote

Can we not just appreciate the fact that she’s returned to the stage after 3 years, especially when she’s naturally a very nervous performer in general, and given an amazing performance? Like atp I wonder why some of y’all are fans if you just want to nitpick everything L does like you’re her music teacher or something + performing some of her most personal songs, after a massive hate train and after releasing 3 albums during a pandemic. lana does so much and it seems like some ppl just want to complain. 19 Quote
Lanaparadiserey Posted May 28, 2023 Posted May 28, 2023 Ok as the #1 Arcadia stan I’m so glad she performed it. I’ve always loved the vocals on that track so I’m glad others are enjoying a little more now. The show was so great and I’m so so excited for next week 13 Quote
UltraModernGirl Posted May 28, 2023 Posted May 28, 2023 I think the performance went pretty well considering she hasn’t done a show of her own in some time. Sure, there were technical mistakes and she was late () but the set list and passion she had made up for it. The crowd clearly loved it. Her confidence obviously skyrocketed after a couple songs and she did great overall 11 Quote
