10th Anniversary of Ultraviolence - June 13th

Recommended Posts

I cannot believe its been 10 years... The album still feels so fresh. Ultraviolence is truly a timeless album, the soundscape is still so innovative, no one will ever make something like this that even compares! I remember playing this for the first time alone in my room at night and just being blown away like I could not believe what I was hearing, it was perfect! I hadn't heard any leaks or anything cause I wasn't part of any online fan spaces at the time, but my bestie and I dieeed and we still talk about loving this album to this day. Thank you so much Lana and happy 10 year anniversary to Ultraviolence!

I’ll never forget the utter shock I felt when I listened to the album for the first time, how raw it seemed to be but on a strange level I wasn’t sure if she was being serious or had added flavor for dramatic effect. How hurt she was, or had been. “Jim raised me up, he hurt me but it felt like true love” like what?? Gurl?? You okay? I loved it from the very beginning. I remember needing a few listens to realize that the album version of Black Beauty was superior to the demo which had leaked earlier - I was just so used to it, haha.

Happy 10 years, Ultra.

Tbh I’m fine if Lana doesn’t do anything crazy for a 10th anniversary, I mean it’s not something super spectacular like a 20th anniversary. All I want is is this happiness / flipside on streaming and digital download everywhere.

Can I also say that the best and the coolest she has ever looked was the Ultraviolence era. The aesthetics were unmatched. She was the coolest person in the universe. OMG.

I’m still not over the raccoon eyes and beach waves

The guitar solo in Shades Of Cool is still unmatched :defeated:

Also Old Money is still such a classic in her discography imo, still one of my favorite ballads of hers:wowcry: The nostalgia, her voice is so so beautiful in it , the strings :oprah:

"Swan Song. It’s on my album Honeymoon. It’s the antithesis of hopefulness. It’s about trying to find beauty in giving up. If I had my way, I would continue to persist in all areas of my life, but it can be quite challenging because I can be too trusting too soon."

Can’t believe it’s been this long already, this was my first Lana release/era and I remember it so fondly. :xcry:The day this came out my dad brought me home the target CD and when I played it he said “how do you know the lyrics already?” I was listening to the album alll day on YouTube lol

Happy 10th UV, there will never be another like you! I wasn't a fan when this masterpiece was released and to be honest it was one of the Lana albums I didn't immediately gravitate towards when I did become a fan, even if hearing the tempo change in West Coast was a seminal moment in my life. But although it may have taken some time I came to understand and feel the magnificence of Ultraviolence and there was no looking back after that, once you get it, you're changed for life. The sheer power of the universe this album creates is unmatched and these songs put me in a headspace like no other.. she really did that :xcry:

Hard to believe it’s been TEN YEARS now :lanaptie:

I still remember where I was every second of the era. Sitting in my dorm room replaying West Coast over and over and over on release day. Being at my aunt’s summer house when Shades of Cool dropped thinking to myself “wow Lana will never top this”. Watching her live performance of Ultraviolence over and over again and already having the words memorized once the song dropped. Sitting in my stupid ex boyfriends bedroom listening to Brooklyn Baby with that rat repeating over and over again “I don’t know how you even like her” (I dumped his sorry ass like days afterwards)

and then THE moment.

I picked up my best friend on release night around 11PM, we went to the store and got tons of snacks and drinks, and then I drove us around our hometown all night and we repeated the album over and over and over again over analyzing every single little detail.

I never connected SO much with an album, and while I’ve mostly outgrown it, I will still forever cherish that era. Both sonically and that moment in life. So many amazing memories were built around this album, and even to this day I get such a rich sense of nostalgia when I do a full album play through. I haven’t listened to the album cover to cover in probably a couple of years now, but today is absolutely going to be Ultraviolence day.
