I'm not too savvy with musical production terms. What are stems and what are filters and how do they differ from instrumentals?

I'm not too savvy with musical production terms. What are stems and what are filters and how do they differ from instrumentals?

Stems are each part of a song in its own audio file, they use stems to make the full song in the studio. Basically if you hear a flute or guitar in a song, then the flute stem would only be the flute.

 

Filters are fanmade, they consist of many many different ways that the creators figure out themselves. They can make stems, background vocals, etc sound MUCH louder, sometimes even isolating them by themselves (although that's rare)
