I love them. :flutter: They really struggled & took their time to record their debut album, and even though it's not perfect (some of songs could have been a lot better when you compare to how they sound live), I really dig it. Hopefully they'll get better recording in the studio with the time, I still think they can get bigger.

some stuff to check out if you're a new fan:

the documentary Red Bull Music did about them last year (you can see a poster of Jules @5.25 @elllipsis :usrs:)

their amazing cover of Oh Well by Fleetwood Mac :defeated:

the live version of Let Me Go (it's the song that end their sets)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtP0dQV0Rlg

there's quite a few of their live set professionally recorded & available on YT: iTunes Festival 12 (they also performed this year but cant find it on YT), Reading, T in the Park & Glastonburry (can't find the full version).

Oh and they're doing SNL on 23rd november.

  2. Captain Murphy - The Killing Joke from 'Duality'

Ghostface Killah - Rise of the Ghostface Killah from 'Twelve Reasons To Die'

Love both of these records, very dark & GREAT production. :smirk:

  3. Saw this on the Music Essentials he made for hypetrak, thought it was interesting: "My Zoom - I always have it with me. Whatever happens and where ever I am. Sometimes, I hear sounds that I want to record. It's full of things. The memory card is huge because I have sounds from 2007. I have rehearsals of Lana Del Rey and I singing together. Hopefully it will come out someday."

You can read the rest of his Music Essentials here.

  4. Just out of curiosity, do the guys who make these remixes have to ask for Lana's permission to use her song, or just the label's, or neither?

I wonder how Lana feels about the fact that the watered-down, oonts oonts oonts versions of her songs are way more popular and successful than the original ones...

I don't think Lana has anything to say in this... it's most likely her managers, I'd say. It all depends on how/if you want to commercialize it (copyrights $$) and if it's far different from the original. But he has a contract with Interscope now, sooooo don't worry about this and be ready to eat some Gervais girl. :eartha:

Didn't she said a few words about it in that Radio.com interview? I don't really remember.

  5. The Prodigy - Smack My Bitch Up

Very NSFW. Jonas Åkerlund's masterpiece tbh.

This one reminded me a LOT of Nicolas Winding Refn's first movies (the first 2 Pusher & Bleeder particularly), very similar style! Ever saw them?

    ---

    My favorites:

Flying Lotus - Until The Quiet Comes short film directed by Kahlil Joseph

The most beautiful video clip I ever saw, hands down!

The Shoes - Time To Dance directed by Daniel Wolfe

Ultra violent, Jake Gyllenhaal completely nailed it. :smirk:

DJ Mehdi - Signatune directed by Romain Gavras

Because dude's gone too soon, RIP Mehdi. :(

Daft Punk - Da Funk directed by Spike Jonze

Most random clip EVER, love it. :toofunny:

XXYYXX - About You directed by VASH

    SO hypnotizing & chill... :defeated:

  6. yeah i'm listening to it right now and i'm pretty disappointed tbh nothing will ever compare to the house of balloons mix tape for me

omg I hate wanderlust, he had something so special, why can't he keep making music like he used to?  :crying:

IKR! WTF is Wanderlust?! :hdu: His 3 mixtapes were so dark and great... with Kiss Land it's like he's trying to be more mainstream and touch more people, I already wasn't feeling it when I saw the cover of the album tbh.

I remember reading an interview of Jeremy Rose (producer of 'What You Need', 'Loft Music' & the original 'The Morning') on VICE, where he said that Abel was a basic rapper before and his lyrics were boring AF... I think he needs to be well surrounded to make great music, unfortunately I guess. :poordat:

  7. I did, once. :ohno: It's pretty bad, the beats are generic & the lyrics kinda sucks... His weakest work imo. KL & BTW are the best songs so if you didn't liked them, I don't think you're gonna like the rest. He had so much potential... :icant: I rather listen to Jai Paul's 'demos album' tbh.

  8. I love The Weeknd, I was completely blown away by House of Balloons when it came out! I loved all 3 mixtapes / Trilogy & my fave songs atm are High For This, House of Balloons / Glass Table Girls (especially the second part, like OMG!?), The Birds Part 1, XO / The Host & Kiss Land. The songs I like the least are those featuring Drake probably because I fucking hate Drake. :smirk:

The second part of XO / The Host... OMFG!! Outside before is amazing too. :defeated:

I tend to agree on this. I don't hate Drake, I quite like Take Care actually but I don't think their voices goes well together. Their last song for Kiss Land is very sloppy imo. It's like I've already heard it 94949845 times. :pft:

I love this one tho (he kind of stole it from Abel but whatever): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFIZIcQw2VQ
