  1. Really interesting thread! I've been thinking about this for ages now but actually didn't come to any satisfying conclusions. Though I'll give it a try. (Don't hate me if I'm wrong. I don't know if I'm good at that kind of things...)

I can only confirm your theories about her beeing really sensitive and warmhearted.

I kinda think that she's also a little perfectionist, even if she doesn't show it all the time. Her videos (especially those from her Lizzy Grant days) might look a little messy and randomly put together but in my opinion this is exactly what it was intended to look like - it all was planned, every little piece of it. And I actually think that she's trying to make that with her whole life. She's trying to achieve perfection with beeing seemingly imperfect (Does this make any sense?). She doesn't want to be completely slick because that might be uninteresting or just isn't her intention.

Now the big question is if this is her real personality or if she's just a great actor. I myself think that it's both. She obviously wants others to see her that way and so she has to behave in a special way. So I'm not saying that everything she does is acting - no way! - but don't we all do things just because we want to be perceived in a particular way? :hooker:

I think that's also a main motive for her name and style changes. She wasn't (maybe still isn't?) absolutely sure how she wanted to be seen by others or who she actually was/is, so she tried different idk how to call it...maybe "personalities" (I always think of "chamaeleon soul" & "no fixed personality" when it comes to this).

I don't know if you get what I'm trying to say and it could be complete nonsense but this often comes into my mind when I see her.

I have some more quite weird thought about this subject but I don't want to overstrain you with my strange would-be psychologist's blabla.

But would-be psychologist's blabla is one of my favorite hobbies! :D

You're making perfect sense. I think managing one's persona can be an example of "above-the-line diplomacy." Sometimes there's a fine line between manipulation and legitimate influence... but I think there is a line there.

  2. Well, St. Tropez was the missing link in fitting Summer Wine into my Miss America playlist perfectly. Heaven-sent :angie:

Although is Ooh Baby alright after Summer Wine? Not particularly offensive, but maybe I should move Back to tha Basics there or something.

I love those happy accidents :D

KOL --> ST --> SW --> OB has a good flow. I'd leave BTTB right where it is (good buffer between FD & PL).

  3. You're very talented! These are absolutely gorgeous :)

Since you asked for feedback, I wanted to ask, do you know about the "rule of thirds"? Basically, in your mind, draw two lines across your photo horizontally, and two lines vertically (like you were drawing a tic-tac-toe board right across your cover). Then notice where items of visual interest are falling on the grid. Things you want to highlight (a face, an eye, whatever the subject is looking at) should fall ideally on one of the four intersections (of the imaginary lines), or at least fall on one of the lines, or at least come as close as you can while keeping other visual considerations in mind. It's not really a RULE in the sense it will look bad if you don't do this. But try it out, and see if it makes some projects look even better! :D

(It sounds complicated, but it's not. I think some artists do it naturally.)

  4. Ok I think I might have been a bit unclear. I'm not calling her anti-feminist. I think that not all of the time, but sometimes, her lyrics talked about how much she needed a man, how dependent she was on men, etc. I completely respect her right to do whatever she wants artistically and this doesn't make me lose respect for her in any way. Don't want to come off in the wrong way but sometimes she sang purposefully high pitched and cute, making her sound younger, girly, almost weak? This is part of what makes me feel like she doesn't stand up for herself so much as a woman in her music. Just my personal opinion you don't have to agree with me, I posted it in "unpopular lana opinions" for a reason haha

You're definitely entitled to your opinion. But there's a lot underneath the surface girliness. I think she likes to make us wonder.

  5. Any ideas about where to place Summer Wine? I have it as a single so far because it doesn't fit in any of my fan albums. I mean, it could easily go with the collection of Lizzy tracks, but that's just wrong. It's not pop. It's too downtempo to go with Kinda Outta Luck, Back to tha Basics, etc.--but too sweet and happy to go with the sadcore tracks.

Right now I've put it at the end of my Hollywood Playaz mix (after a :06 silent track, like an epilogue), and I plan to add Y&B in a couple days. Once there's enough "singles," I'll put them in a new playlist.

  6.

Does anyone have a playlist that combines Paradise & Born to Die's tracklists into a huge body of music? I would love to hear what everyone comes up with.

Hunter had one on the last page, with other unreleased tracks mixed in, that I think of as "Hunter's Epic Paradise":

...and I took out the unreleased ones and called it "Hunter's Pretty Paradise" :teehee:

  7. I need to make playlist for all of Lana's unreleased songs, but like idk how to approach it. Apart of me wants to do like love, lost, past, future, America, Decayed stars or something like that, but I think doing a playlist of songs about certain people like K & Jimmy would be cool too, but I honestly don't know shit about the backgrounds of her songs, I just like them. Has anyone made a good playlist they wouldn't mind sharing?

Some of us have posted our favorite playlists in this thread:

...and here's my new one :)

  9. Hello. I was thinking about posting the logos I made for anyone who wants to use them in their artworks. They are HQ pngs I tried to be as precise as the original logo of Lana. Here you are. More of them coming soon.

Thank you! Excited for a design pack!

  10. Is this song a comment on people not being "original" while sounding like music for a Doritos commercial made in five minutes on GarageBand by an in-house jingle writer at Disney?

That's what I thought at first too! I was so furious at the possibility it even MIGHT be about Lana, I wrote a parody on the spot. A really mean parody.

    Then I found this:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Original_songs_in_Smash#Original

"Original" is an original song introduced in the tenth episode of the second season of the musical TV series Smash, entitled "The Surprise Party". It was written by Pasek and Paul (per the episode's credits), but in the show's universe, it was written by songwriting team Jimmy Collins (Jeremy Jordan) and Kyle Bishop (Andy Mientus) for their Hit List musical.

In the episode, Karen Cartwright (Katharine McPhee) and Jimmy rehearse this Hit List number, with Karen as Amanda performing this number to show her boyfriend Jesse (Jimmy) that she wants to be an original pop star.

I think the lyrics are supposed to be "Amanda"'s fondest dream :toofunny:
