Oh god, this is so useful. I found that newspaper article interesting, never seen it before and I like that it mentions 'Lana Rey Del Mar' and I'm guessing that's where we got the story about Kill Kill's title change?
And a fascinating recipe below it for collard-potato bake!

Crying at your ratings. Thank god for unreleased material or you prob wouldn't like Lana at all...

Well, I've been reorganizing my playlists and album artwork, and I think I've finally come up with something I'm happy with. (Using the album-cover-art system instead of having a cover for every song...)
Credits:
AKA cover uses "Lana Del Rey and the Phenomena" cover art by Shelly
Born to Die cover uses artwork by unknown artist for Kozaczek
Paradise cover uses "Born to Die: Paradise Edition" cover art by bon-bona
Motel Flower Nation cover uses artwork by Shannon Posedenti
World on a String cover uses artwork by tick-of-time

lately i've been think that "K" stands for Kurt Cobain...
we've already discussed that and i think we came to the conclusion that lana isn't that delusional
Someone who LOOKS like Kurt Cobain...

Have you seen how it looks when you remove a tattoo? seriously its really ugly. It leaves a scar. she definitely wouldnt want that.
Oh. Well crap, then.

Born to Die is absolutely beautiful, and I love how she's close to him like she's scared and needs protection. Iconic. My top pick.
Iconic -- yes! (Did you vote? I only see mine for BTD.)

Ideas for shortening volume 2 are welcome but perhaps futile because we will only get more leaks.
Wow, your II, III and IV are all getting rather longish. It might be time to split some songs out into a Vol. VI (and make Demos & Alternates Vol. IX)!
My original Hollywood playlist has split so many times it's now a "trilogy"! (Teenage Wasteland, Hollywood Playaz, and Neon Gold) All are basically pop, but Teenage Wasteland contains the ones with a younger-sounding narrator; with the more-mature songs split between Hollywood Playaz and Neon Gold. (I had in mind to make HP about pursuing success and NG about achieving it... but I ended up giving HP all the interesting ones and making NG more radio-friendly, I think.

But no seriously Sirens was 8 years ago and AKA wasn't...like I think she may have just actually referenced it. Hnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng
"Steven Mertens, who made my first record [editor’s note: David Kahne is credited as the producer of her debut, 2010’s Lana Del Ray a.k.a. Lizzy Grant; Mertens is a member of the Brooklyn band Spacecamp]."
This has got to be SIRENS, right?I thought so too!
"I’m not as interested in flip-floppers."
Yes, but ones reaction to music is often like that. Jealous Girl, Never Let Me Go, Back to the Basics, Scarface are songs I initially didn't like much and now think are masterpieces. It's not quite clear what kind of flip-floppingness she's referring to if not musical taste, but changing musical taste is hard and is usually met with aversion and polarization (so she should feel better about her reception).I strongly suspect this comment is related to the "So Legit" leak. Flip-flopping away from her is bound to get a stronger reaction than flip-flopping in her favor. The context may sound more like the latter, but the interview is edited after all... or maybe the SL fallout has been on her mind enough that any "flip-flopping" triggers a "WTF" reaction. Think about it -- "Oh by the way, So Legit leaked and people hate you now... This just in, the Summertime Sadness remix is climbing the charts and people love you more than ever now..." Trying to imagine being in that position, I think even if I knew it was just happenstance, I'd feel jerked around too.
But yeah, "I love all my flip-flop fans," or better yet, silence on the issue, would make for better PR. -

Everyone is turning their back on the American Dream AKA idea that Lana loved a guy a death row
Have you seen "Leaving Las Vegas"? Nicholas Cage's character is the type of "dying man" I think Lana sings about. Not from disease per se, but from giving up. (On life? On them?)

Do you think I should listen to Lana Del Rey before Lana Del Ray and May Jailer?
It's hard to say. I first listened to whatever was on YouTube at the time (mix of LDR and Lizzy Grant), then Born to Die, then Lana Del Ray aka Lizzy Grant, then Sirens, etc... I tend to prefer Lizzy Grant unreleased, but AKA has the best collection of songs ever, but if you really like pop then BTD might be the place to start... Heck, just support the artist and go buy Born to Die:The Paradise Edition

Probably the Media section on LanaBoards is a good place to start. Within that section are Photos, Video and Audio. Check out the pinned topics for threads that are particularly informative; for example, a list of all the songs that have leaked is here:
http://lanaboards.com/index.php?/topic/447-leaked-songs-list-information/
After you collect the songs you want
(all of them), if you want cover art you can look in the Fan Art section. If you need help organizing all those songs, and want to see how other people do it, these threads may give you some ideas (and if you see a song popping up on several playlists, that's probably a good sign that it's worth trying):

http://lanaboards.com/index.php?/topic/940-post-your-lana-itunes-library/

And if you enjoy
idle speculationdiscussing song meanings and how they might relate to Lana's life, don't miss:http://lanaboards.com/index.php?/topic/473-lanalysis-relating-songs-to-knownassumed-relationships/
Welcome to the madness that is the Lana Del Rey fandom!

I didn't read all the answers to this thread nor the comments on the status, so I'm sorry if there's repetition in what I'm saying, but answering the Lorde quote in the thread I just want to say that singing "I'm nothing without you" has nothing to do with feminism it's just one person expressing their love to another person. I'm not saying that this kind of 'you're my everything' love is healthy I'm just wondering why it has to be related to feminism? It's not like saying me as a woman, am nothing without you, a man.. Am I making sense, I don't know.. It's never an issue when a male singer sings it anyway.
Makes sense to me. I guess if you just took some cloned women and men fully grown and stuck them someplace together to see what kind of society they would form, all-consuming love wouldn't have to be related to gender necessarily. But with the human history we've been born into, it's women (generally speaking) who have been more encouraged to make their lives revolve around men, you know? So now men can get away with it more often, while it triggers more red flags when a woman says it.
I love Lorde and I agree with her opinion. Some of you obviously don't know how to differentiate a casual fan from super fan like the ones found on here. Most people aren't going to search through the internet for all of Lana's unreleased songs and albums to understand her. Her released material represents who she is when she wrote it and released it. The fact that her songs on BTD and Paradise are about being the girl who is submissive says a lot. I would like Lana to be more "in control" through her lyrics and empower her female fanbase. At the end of the day I love them both for their music and there shouldn't be anything more important than that.
I for one try not to treat casual fans as second-class citizens, while respecting their right to only listen to Lana's released albums, and only as much as they feel like it
But it's still possible for a legitimately casual fan to have an overly superficial understanding of BTD's lyrics, by reacting rather than really trying to understand.

This theory is definitely not even close but this is something I think. I do think that K went to jail but this is another theory if he didn't. If K and Lana liked each other/were in a relationship before Kent and when they were still in Lake Placid, "jail" could symbolize Lana's future at Kent and how I think it's evident in most her songs and interviews that Kent was the last place she wanted to go to. Being in jail could be K's perspective of Lana going off to boarding school. So maybe she is singing in K's POV in her K-centric songs about his relationship with her. Just a weird theory I came up with if K didn't actually go to jail.
I've actually been wondering too about jail in a literal or figurative sense. Like, maybe jail = his life on the road with a band (from her perspective)? IDK either though.

too much OVERdiscussing
I love this thread so much.
I agree with those who pointed out that Lorde was probably just demonstrating a shallow, superficial understanding of BTD lyrics, without actual animosity (even though it could come across that way out of context), with her primary goal being to talk about her own direction.
But yeah, I also agree that we shouldn't be too quick to pressure people into adopting the feminist label, when there isn't a universally agreed-upon definition at this time. If it means "the belief that all women are human and should have their basic human rights upheld," then of course all right-thinking people are feminist. (I'm just gonna lay that one out there without qualification... safe too many times
) But it seems condescending somehow to tell someone, "oh trust me, you should consider yourself a feminist." I think it's more helpful to emphasize areas of agreement, and recognize that sometimes we're working toward the same goals.
 And besides, I used to consider myself "for equality, but not necessarily feminist" ...so given a chance, anyone can see the light eventually!

unauthorized autobiography
My personal theory regarding the Southern culture/voodoo references is inspiration by way of spring/summer breaks in Pensacola, FL (not too far from Alabama), supplemented by more substantial travel and perhaps a Sookie Stackhouse novel or seven. But what do I know

These are all so good... you're amazing! I'm already using your Black Beauty cover... now I might be switching out a few more

Thanks, I'm using it too! I don't know how you do it, but you've made me like another song I was ready to give up on (IWIABW). Context. Is. Everything!
