The chaotic energy of this place...

I sometimes wonder how much politics impact what the industry decides to back or put out... like from early 2010’s to ‘15/‘16 timeframe, I thought pop music in the forefront of the mainstream was getting better and better... but after 2016... it largely went downhill for me. Charli was very much apart of that uptick for me, and something like XCX World could have logically fit into that overarching industry path, if it continued... but idk, like I said I just feel like something changed. Maybe I’m crazy and it’s just me... idk.

I just don’t think some of the songs sounded quite... there yet ya know?... like they were incomplete or just missing something. Some just don’t feel as strong. I think “Charli” overall is a much better album to have had come out. But I like the sound she was going for on XCX World. The label might’ve just felt that it wasn’t quite ready... I could see that being the case.

Unless I’m missing something (did a new version leak?) there is a “Ghosthaus edit” that does its best to mimic the SXSW version and then there’s the real one... they have different intros and there are differences in the bridge.

I will say this about 2099... it IS a bit melodically drab... BUT lacking rhythm? Not a chance!!!! The rhythm and cadence of the song is so unique! It’s what carries the song, outside of Charli’s performance and some interesting production.

The verses through the middle of the track are ICONIC and career-defining for Charli up to this point, how could they?
