  1. I don't really know where to post this...

I wonder what happened between Lana and Jaime King. They def had a falling out. Modern day proof: Jaime isn't following Lana on instagram anymore (GOSH I swear I do have a life.) It just seems odd. And now Jaime is besties with TS. I mean, gimme some truth

And now Kyle N. has directed TS's new video Lana style. Copycat much.

  2. It has to be something along the lines of that, since it makes sense with the common legend that phoenixes rebirth from their ashes, she's comparing rising out of the water like a phoenix would from ashes/flame.

Such beautiful lyrics, I got strong Sucré vibes with this song.

I very clearly hear "where I'd rise like a Phoenix or an iron from the fire" .....

@@CherryGalore The ex-boyfriend she lived with was Steven Mertens. “Throughout school, she moved around between the apartments of friends and boyfriends. "My mom called me 'the couch queen'," she says. She remembers spending long nights at a Chinese deli on 42nd street. "They'd let me buy a banana and a coffee and stay there until midnight," she says. "I would go over different rhymes in my head, like rhyming 'disco' with 'go-go', writing about girls with blue mascara and black eyeliner, and about all of the men I had met who I just loved. It was a very liberating, penniless, hilarious, fun, fun time." One of the apartments she stayed in was that of her then-boyfriend, Steven Mertens, a fixture in New York's alt-rock and antifolk scenes.” http://lanaboards.com/index.php?/topic/3683-lana-del-rey-covers-nylon-magazines-november-issue/

@@effr nice!! Thanks x I wonder why we haven't heard more about Steven Mertens. Is there any info on how long they were together for...? Also - when did she share an apartment in NY with her siblings, then? I thought it was while she was studying. Jeez, the Lana timeline is extremely confusing to me tbh. x

  5. I was the good catholic girl my nana raised me to be for ages, while my friends were partying and screwing around. They lead happy, balanced lives. Look at me, I'm fucked up and sad and lonely for keeping celibate for so long. Now that I feel free and ok to do what I want with my body, it is too late. I can't find a girl who will be in a relationship with someone so problematic. The majority of the religious beliefs out there mess more with your head than being raised in a brothel, I say. There is no sin in enjoying sex.

[i am not a virgin but feel I wasted my teen years trying to be "good"].

How can it be too late? It's not too late until you're dead. You feel free and ok to do what you want with your body - then go be you  :)

  6. What’s the relationship between violence and love?

I like a physical love. I like a hands-on love. [Pauses.] How can I say this without getting into too much trouble? I like a tangible, passionate love. For me, if it isn’t physical, I’m not interested. Everything I do feels so organized: touring, playing a show night after night with a couple months in between to make a record, and being in charge of all of it—mixing, mastering. Sometimes I meet people with a lot of fire and energy. Mentally, maybe we’re not that similar. Telepathically, we’re not on that same wavelength. If there’s a physicality and a chemistry, that ends up winning for me every time because it’s the opposite of what I have every day.

Who’s the last person you met who made you feel like that?

Dan Auerbach, for better or for worse.

Me speculating big time: Lana and Dan had a fling/an affair and maybe the "for better or worse" is because it was the straw that broke the camel's back in regards to her relationship with Barrie?  :sluttybunny:  :rollin:  :smokes2:

  7. :dorothy3:

Lana's polyamory (if that is the right word... I think she has used the word "polygamy" but that doesn't seem to fit either) has been making me uncomfortable for awhile now -- but also opening my eyes to what it must be like for people who openly defy conventional mores. And frankly, some conventional mores need defying.

I say this as someone who wishes there was more room in our culture for both women and men who wish to pursue celibacy before marriage. I grew up in purity culture; I was raised to see "girls who do" as something Other, and my parents even questioned whether a close female friend of mine was "a good person" upon finding out she was sexually active. I am ashamed to admit I bought into it long enough to wonder how I would relate to my own daughter if she grew up to be someone "believing in sex before marriage." :ohno:

THIS is cultural insanity. THIS is what is mentally unbalanced: pitting "good girls" against "bad girls," friends against friends, even mothers against daughters. This is what should outrage us: shaming women (regardless of their choices) for being embodied as sexual beings, shaming men (and women) for being attracted to them as sexual beings, and passing on plenty of sexual hang-ups to our daughters AND our sons, whether they are people who "do" or "don't."

The double standard doesn't work for us anymore, if it ever did. And attempting the pseudo-egalitarian solution of slut-shaming men as well as women doesn't cut it either. The world is becoming more complicated (culturally... sexually...) and maybe that scares some people. But maybe this is an opportunity to find other ways of encouraging each other to be more loving, respectful, honorable human beings instead of resorting to the implication "just be more like me so I can feel better about you as well as myself." Many of us are not buying it anymore, and for that I am grateful. For my daughter's sake, and for the sake of other people's sons and daughters, I am grateful.

LDR is not alone in portraying female sexual empowerment; as others have pointed out, artists like Miley Cyrus are creating space for women to be fully embodied as themselves (for better or worse -- it is possible to see both, and still welcome the greater space). Lana is just more overtly analytical about it. I say we need her voice, even if I personally disagree with hers sometimes. I hope she doesn't suffer remorse for it. I hope she realizes she is on the front lines of something big -- even if she didn't ask for the confrontation, I hope she decides that being true to herself is worth it.

It's really interesting for me to read this. Not being from America, what you portray here really stands out as something very... foreign to me. In my country you're ultimately regarded as strange (and perverted! ha) if you don't have sex before marriage. Sex is seen as a very natural part of our lives, our physicality (which it is) that shouldn't be denied. So when Lana says she's slept with a lot of guys in the industry, I don't even raise an eyebrow. She probably says it tongue in cheek, even so - in some parts of the world she's not on the front lines of something big in terms of sexuality - just your regular gal. But I understand that it's different in the States and because of that I really agree with you - her voice is needed!

Just a footnote: to me Miley Cyrus stands for the total opposite of female sexual empowerment; what she does seems to be driven by her awareness of "a spectator", whereas Lana is doing what she wants for herself. It seems

  8. Do you think a “guilty pleasure” is a real thing?

Yes, but I don’t have many of them musically. I have tons of them in life.

    Do tell.

Well, smoking is one of them. Sugar, coffee. I must have 13 cups a day. It’s a shame about the health consequences because a lot of great things happen over coffee and a cigarette. A lot of great songs were written.

When she says her pussy tastes like Pepsi cola... I have a hard time believing her :creepna:

  10. About the interview MM did with Lana back in Jan of 09... I think they knew each other.

My theory is that maybe he was seeing her on the DL.. because he was with with someone else. Could explain all the "woman on the side" references we get. It makes sense if he got married not long after they split.

I also have this crazy theory that he was seeing her after he got married. Her tweets on her MissDaytona account seem to be directed (or indirected) to someone on there. I could just be over thinking it.

Also, about "Afraid" being about MM... doubtful. I think that song is about the 7 year relationship. I don't think Michael Mizrahi because of the teenagers line.. wasn't he like 10 years older than her?

    Facebook. I have proofs.

I love your post. I honestly don't get why people aren't talking more about the relationships we KNOW she had - with MM and Reeve Carney. (And yeah that record executive, but that's a bit of a mystery too.) I could see MM being the subject of many of her songs. Can I see your facebook proof? :flutter: If she actually does keep in  touch with MM's mum, Video Games would be about him :creepna2:

In feb. '12 it was reported that she was staying with her ex boyfriend in Williamsburg. Wonder who that could be.
