  1. When I first saw the cover I few hours ago I was super unsure about it, but the more I look and it and think about it, the more I like it. Now I think I love it.

It doesn't seem like it matches the snippets, but I also kind of think that may be deliberate and to be fair we haven't actually heard as many songs as we're pretending we have. Think back to the snippet she posted of Venice Bitch before releasing the full track. It sounded nothing like what we actually got. I have a feeling this album has lot more going on than we think it does.

Love the kitchy American vibes of the cover, it fits really well with the title Normal Fucking Rockwell. It's almost like this one big joke, which is exactly what the title sounds like, but we've got California burning in the background with the painted sky which gives the campy image a slightly more serious undertone. Not crazy about the text but I don't hate it, and think it might not be on the actual vinyls.

    Thank you!!

  2. I'm usually with the consensus on here, but I have to disagree. The cover suits the lyrics. The comic book font + neon outfit + American flag is a summary of her and this album. She's always been enamored with the past, she's all about Americana, and her kitsch taste (which makes us all cringe at times) is right in your face. The album will literally end with a song with the lyrics...

Smiling for miles in pink dresses and high heels on white yachts,

But I'm not, baby, I'm not. No I'm not that, I'm not.

Hello, it's the most famous woman you know on the iPad

Calling from beyond the grave, I just wanna say, "Hi, Dad."

Hope is a dangerous thing for a woman like me to have

But I have it. Yeah, I have it.

She's literally reaching out her hand just as she mentions it in Mariners Apartment Complex (I thought that was obvious lmao), Cali's in the background because for some reason this woman is obsessed with the landscape/history of it. Venice Bitch was inspired by it and she included her cover of Doin' Time which mentions Long Beach? The cities are on fire because you know this woman is into chaos and she's corny like that. The sky's painted and I think that's obvious what that refers to. It's a collage of what this album is about and I love it. I'm also starting to notice the cohesion in the lyrics relistening to the songs and snippets...

You fucked me so good, that I almost said "I love you"

then she has a song that comes later on the tracklist called, "Fuck It, I Love You!" Going by the titles, she fantasizes about a happy future (How to Disappear), they find solace temporarily {?}(California), then reality sets in and she realizes she can't change him (The Next Best American Record) and are we surprised? I'm ready for the damn album!

Yup! This is her best album cover to date, and you articulated why perfectly.

  3. I adore the album cover. The more I look at it, the more I think it could've not been better. Even the picture that we got last September and that I absolutely loved is nothing compared to the actual cover. I really don't understand how some of you call it her worst album cover ever. It's different for once, she's not just standing stupidly with a car behind her, she's inviting us on her boat, the reference to MAC's lyrics is brillant, the painting of the sky is genius too, it's such a subtile reference to NR the painter.

Totally agreed. I was enamored with the first promotional image, but this IS Norman Fucking Rockwell, while that was just a taste of the colors.

  4. I don't get most of the complaining... at all.

For the whole "wow no car" "she's not wearing white"

I always saw Lust For Life as a full circle moment that closed something that started with Born To Die (She's also not wearing white or infront or any car in that beautiful-mess-airbrushed Paradise edition cover). Even "Get Free" sounded like she was trying to close a chapter in her whole life.

Norman Fucking Rockwell seems like the first step of something brand new. Out of the black, into the blue. Sis literally in the middle of the ocean while California is on fire behind her NNNN

I guess the whole composition might not work for some people tho and that's ok, that's valid. Just awkward to be mad she's not "INFRONT OF ANY CAR" or this type of stuff.

I, personally, love the aesthetic. It's a giant hybrid of Comic-Style, Real painting (background) and photography.

    YES!

  5. It was her favorite lfl song and she said it needed a home. She was thinking about releasing it as a seperate folky track, so why wouldn’t she include it in the deluxe version of NFR? She said it was too happy for lfl, but she seems to be in a happy place now with songs like Venice Bitch and “Love Song”.

How many other things has she said in the past that she either totally forgot about, or never happens? From an album with unreleased tracks, to Yosemite, to promised music videos...

  6. from atrl: "When you shazam the intro of BAR it appears instantly as The Next Best American Record from Norman ****ing Rockwell!, but if you shazam any other part it says Best American Record from Best American Record, we stan Shazam"

    but she's not a gemini....

she did. we have 3 official titles

She was born on the Gemini/Cancer cusp. She's a Gemini to me.
