  1. maybe i’m reaching but i really felt like california was about Francesco..............

Mmm, he’s married and I don’t think Lana has written much referencing him. Their relationship seemed to have a lot of conflict even though they tried their best to hide it. I feel like she didn’t have that same deep connection she had with Barrie. I think California is more likely about Barrie.

  2. I do agree with you that it is a step in the right direction after LFL, and most artists do have slumps, so I consider it normal to say the least. But I don't think there is anything particularly new happening sonically in a majority of the songs and certainly not a lot of vocal variation going on either which, yes, can make Lana's songs pretty dull without the bridges.

    Hmm, interesting point.

  3. And NFR has California which is forever being dubbed as a UV throwback

Yeah, but it suits NFR as a body of work. Heroin doesn’t make sense on an album that has a song like Groupie Love or Coachella. My original point was that NFR is a step in the right direction because even though you may not like the references or elements she uses of her past work, she’s trying *some* new things (there were whole blocks of posts crying about the lack of bridges on these new songs), so it’s unfair to make the claim that she’s not doing anything new or claim it’s a compilation album like LFL when it’s not.

  4. But she did that for LFL as well. How come she never felt the need to repeat herself with these "elements" on BTD, UV and HM?

Not really. LFL was more of a compilation album in the way that songs didn’t exactly flow well into each other through sound or subject matter. Tracks like Summer Bummer, Lust For Life, or WTWWAW don’t remind me of any songs from albums before LFL. Songs like Heroin had comparisons to UV, but that doesn’t compare to NFR where she’s working with a different producer and even though she included lyrics that reference her previous work, she has songs like Bartender that are unique in their own way... so...

  5. Geez, can’t believe I let that short interview interrupt my listening... anyway I reached the end and did anyone talk about the end of Hope?! I couldn’t help smiling. That’s probably Jack talking to Lana after they finished recording the song and I’m so glad they kept that bit in because it’s so sweet.

“... ‘cause I had you in my head. Are you real? Are you real? Yeah? Is there any chance I’m just gonna wake up on the floor and this song won’t exist? I’m gonna be very sad. If I wake up and you don’t exist and this song doesn’t exist... Yeah, I hope you’re real.”

  6. My only hope and dream is that she finally is making a proper album with Miles Kane. She mentioned in an interview for L4L that they formed a band but not much came from it. Imagine Lana vocal with Last Shadow Puppets / Arctic Monkeys sound....

Ugh omg yes. I've been waiting for a sound like that for years, but I have a feeling it would only happen if their schedules align again.  :ohno:

  7. Do you see Lana working with Jack for her next album? Or do you think she is going to work with a new producer o rick nowels?

I wanna say yes, because he came straight to the studio when she called him for Looking For America and the track turned out really beautiful. They probably have made more songs other than those two acoustic songs she performed at the NY show that didn't make it to NFR. She seems really comfortable working with him like she does with Rick, so I wouldn't mind. I like his production. She could revert back to Rick though, it all depends on what direction she's heading in. I can only see her working with a new producer for the album that would follow the next album after this one (if she doesn't take a hiatus by then).
