NEW THEME - Chemtrails Over the Country Club (LIVE for All Groups)
Elle replied to Elle's topic in LanaBoards Updates
The funny part is, I had already started working on the theme with the sunset idea & red car before LDR Village launched! I'm a mind reader xx- 70 replies

Hi, everyone! I am pleased to announce to you all that the site theme for Chemtrails Over the Country Club is now live for everyone. To switch to the theme, scroll down to the bottom of the page, click the "Themes" arrow, and select "Chemtrails Over the Country Club" I hope you all like it! It's been a long time coming, but my design helpers and I put a lot of thought and work into it and wanted to make sure it was just right. Just in time to celebrate Chemtrails's 4 week anniversary! That being said, I want to thank those who helped me bring my vision for the theme to life - @wraith for designing the logo, and @electra & @Rorman Nockwell for helping with some of the photoshop work. I really appreciate your help so much! Enjoy! x Preview: ** Also, while I have your attention, please consider voting for me in a contest I entered with a local radio station! If you DM me a screenshot of your vote, I'll enter you in my giveaway, or you can just vote anyway to be nice to me xx

Omg so excited for the virtual show! Also, just wanted to ask, do we have the digital image from this poster? I haven't been able to find it anywhere x

it’ll be coming this weekend! I’ve been working on it with a few other people, and one of my key helpers went MIA in the middle of the project, so I had to scramble to find another helper. Thankfully, I found someone else to help, so it should ready and up by this weekend! It’s looking really great and I think you all will really like it x

Opinions Needed: Advertisements - DIFFERENT OPTION
Elle replied to Elle's topic in LanaBoards Updates
I understand what's being said, I was just curious to know what the qualms with our normal banner ads are, since users are suggesting Ad-Bl*ck to get rid of all the ads that help support the site? With this new proposal regarding the new vignette ads, I've given the option for users to personally request to not see the vignette ads for their account while still seeing our usual banner ads we've always had for free, at no cost to the user. Then, there's the $2 monthly cost if people want to forgo both the new vignettes as well as our normal banner ads, which is essentially the same as using Ad-Block, but the $2 cost makes up for lost revenue to help pay for the site. So, what I'm curious to know for those who vote no altogether - are there problems with our normal banner ads too? Or what other ways could there to be to help fund support the site rather than ads, both vignette and our normal banner ads? So, I see the opposition, now tell me what I can do as an alternative! Feedback like that is extremely helpful, as again, last night's feedback was what lead me to this new proposal, which seems much more receptive by our users. Feedback and ideas lead to solutions, and I'm listening with an open mind and open ears! Let's brainstorm! x I was concerned about the flow as well, so I may do something similar to what Google Adsense did automatically with the vignettes, and just set up a manual experiment and see if the results are anything substantial and how users feel about it x -
Opinions Needed: Advertisements - DIFFERENT OPTION
Elle replied to Elle's topic in LanaBoards Updates
Hi, thank you so much for this feedback! I understand how vignette ads can deter from user experience, and that's why I'm happy to offer the option to remove the vignettes for those who only want to see our usual banner ads at no-cost. After hearing last night's feedback, I feel this option leads for a better middle-ground than an all or nothing scenario. I may also try to run my own experiment with more banner ads in-between posts just to see if that makes much of a difference. Merch and supporter perks are things I have been considering for the last several months. Merch will take more research and work first before I can implement a store, but I can get supporter perks rolling within the next month or so. I will probably create a new thread asking for opinions on supporter perks, as some users voiced they felt the forum could be divided among Supporters and non-Supporters, although we do currently already have several Supporters from users who have donated in the past. I would try to keep everything fair, and just offer special "thank you" perks for those who choose to donate, such as the extra themes that could be an incentive. I suppose I will need to gather opinions on this matter too before I decide a course of action. Thank you again for your feedback, I greatly appreciate it!! x -

Opinions Needed: Advertisements - DIFFERENT OPTION
Elle replied to Elle's topic in LanaBoards Updates
Please don't encourage Adblock! Again, this is a free site for you all to use, but not free for me to pay for each month. Ads of any kind are a free way to help support the site. AdBlock can severely detract from our revenue, resulting in ad revenue not fully covering the costs it takes to keep the site up & running each month. I have never profited from ad revenue, as all revenue goes fully into the costs for the site. I understand not wanting vignette ads, which is why I've proposed the option to implement them, but users can freely request to have them removed for their account and only see the banner ads we've always had at no cost. The banner ads are not intrusive, and there's usually no more than two per page. Alternatively, I've proposed the $2 monthly Ad-Free version which will get rid of both the new vignettes & our usual banner ads, and the cost makes up for the lost revenue from removing all forms of ads. Again, I completely understand not wanting the vignette ads, which is why I've added the option to only keep them for users who are willing to tolerate them, and remove them for users who don't want to see them for free. I could also impose Ad-Block blockers, but I feel that would anger even more of you, even though this guarantees essentially free revenue for the site. Given the banner ads seem to be not intrusive and are a free way to help support the site, I am wondering what issues you may have with the banner ads? Again, feedback of all kinds is welcome here, and suggestions are helpful for me to understand users' opinions & ideas to generate revenue to pay for the site that all are on board with x -
Opinions Needed: Advertisements - DIFFERENT OPTION
Elle replied to Elle's topic in LanaBoards Updates
Hey all! Just wanted to bump this thread to gather more opinions since there hasn’t been as much feedback in the polls or otherwise as in the previous thread. Please give me your thoughts both in the poll and comments! I’m also especially interested to hear from anyone who voted for no vignette ads altogether, just to see what thoughts you may have about other routes to receive revenue for the site. It was because of the feedback on the last thread in opposition of the ads that I was able to formulate this new proposition, which seems to have appealed to more people. So, feedback helps! & I want to hear it! I know some people voiced concerns about sharing their opinion as they didn’t want to receive a reply from me, so if you’d like to leave feedback but don’t wish to receive a reply from me, you can indicate so in your post. If you’re worried about replies from others as well, you can privately DM me your thoughts on @admin I’d also like to note that my replies were not meant to discourage anyone but rather to answer questions or clear up misconceptions I noticed, but I still understand if you would feel more comfortable knowing that I won’t reply to your thoughts. Thank you all for your feedback on this manner! x -

Hi all, So, last night's thread about the proposed vignette ads turned a little dramatic. I decided to lock that thread and pick up here, also because I've thought of a different proposed option. I've heard all of you who are against vignette ads for whatever reason - technical issues, general annoyance, etc., and I'm listening. That being said, over 2/3 of members who voted in the poll said they were willing to tolerate the vignette ads to generate more revenue for the site. While I had proposed a $2 monthly cost for an Ad-Free version, I know some people were not open to that either, and that's completely understandable. So I've thought of a third option: Vignette ads will be implemented for all members and will be kept for those who are willing to tolerate them. Those who do not want the new vignette ads but are still willing to tolerate the regular banner ads we've always had can request to have the vignette ads removed from their account for free. There is the option of a $2 monthly Ad-Free version that will remove all forms of ads. With this new option, I'll be able to generate more revenue from those who are willing to tolerate the vignette ads, but those who do not want vignettes yet are still willing to tolerate our regular banner ads can have the vignette ads removed at no cost. All they would need to do is message my @admin account letting me know they would not like to see the vignette ads. I will also not have vignette ads be available for guests as I heard your concern about possible new members being deterred from registering due to vignette ads. I will update the terms users must agree to upon registering, and inform them that the site runs vignette ads, but they can choose to have them removed at no cost so they only see our normal banner ads. Let me know your thoughts on this different option. The vignette ads will be a great help to generate more revenue for those who can put up with them, but members who do not want the vignette ads will have the opportunity to have them removed at no-cost while still seeing our regular banner ads. I'm hoping this option is a bit more receivable, and I want to make sure users are not deterred from using the site or are tempted to use Ad-Blocker. Ad-Blocker can greatly harm our revenue, and banner ads are not intrusive and a free way to help support our site. So, instead, I can just block the vignette ads from being seen for certain members who wish to not see them. I'm going to repost the info included in the OP from my other thread for those who missed the last one so they can see the information about the implementation of the vignette ads: So yes, please let me know your thoughts in the replies to this thread. There is still about a week left of this automatic experiment implemented by Google Adsense, so I still have time to gather more thoughts and opinions before I make a final decision. I've added a new poll to this thread where there are four options: Yes, implement the vignette ads for members, and I will tolerate them. Yes, implement the vignette ads for members, but I will request to only see banner ads for free. Yes, implement the vignette ads for members, but I will pay for Ad-Free for no ads of all types. No, do not implement vignette ads at all. Also, I feel like it would've had to go without saying, but let's try to keep this conversation calm and collected. I truly am open to hearing all thoughts and taking them into consideration. All my love, Elle x

I just wanted to say thank you for this little reminder of what's important. LanaBoards is all about the community - the friendships, the love we share of Lana, the memories of iconic moments. So in that sense, we are very rich. Vignette ads or not! Happy is my favourite poem from Violet, and I love that line you quoted. & it's true here - people think that I'm rich, and I am, but not how they think. So while my financial status could always use a little help, I'm rich in the things that are important in life, or at least important to me. Especially regarding my friends, both here and offsite. This whole discussion and the drama that came from it made me a bit more stressed out tonight than I anticipated, but this post made me step back a little bit and realise things like this are so silly and I shouldn't let them get to my head. Not that anyone particularly cares, especially since this topic really isn't about my personal life (and I don't want it to be, given where some of the discussion has touched on), but in an effort to calm myself down a bit, I made a little nostalgia video of me and my friends driving & singing in cars set to the poem Happy. So with that, I'll touch base with you more on all of this tomorrow. Thank you to everyone who has shared their thoughts, whether in support or in opposition of the proposed vignette ads. Off to sleep for me now x

Okay all, well this was quite weird! The worst and most ironic part about this whole hoopla was that it has been severely distracting me from work I'm meant to be doing for my actual job that actually pays me, which is how I pay for LanaBoards roll-over costs in the first place A bit of a paradox there it seems. That being said, please continue leaving your thoughts in this thread, but I will probably be pretty spotty the rest of the night until tomorrow. Then, we can regroup. I've also proposed Option #3 in another post, which is something to consider for the possibility of a different middle-ground solution: Perhaps I'll make a new thread tomorrow discussing this other proposed option to see if this is more satisfactory to those opposed to the vignettes while the opportunity still exists to generate more revenue for the site with those who are fine with them, but again, if the bottom line is no vignette ads altogether, I completely hear you and understand. Hearing your thoughts and taking them into consideration was the purpose of this whole discussion anyway. I apologise for all this drama, and I really wish it didn't take that turn, but I know this is a difficult matter. With all said, I really do love you all and am so appreciative for everyone that makes this community what it is (even if it comes with some unfortunate drama from time to time.) All my love xx

Maybe this isn't the proper time to discuss all of this given the nature of this discussion, but I'll note a bit on this since the question was posed. For a few months now, I've been talking with some people about the possibility of LanaBoards merch through a store. The profits from the merch would go into the costs for the site. I will also hold the opportunity for anyone who would like to contribute their art to the merch designs as well, and they can receive a percentage of the profit if they wish. All and all it would be nice to generate some more revenue for the site, and if vignette ads aren't the way to go, perhaps merch could be a possibility. I also have thought about taking inspiration from other forums who do offer subscription packages (that can also be paid in lump sums) for users who want to donate to the site for fun incentives like coloured name tags, exclusive site themes, profile-card badges, etc. This is something I do intend to do just to offer fun perks for those who want to donate. With this, I won't be taking away anything that free Members have access to, but instead offer fun little extras as a thank you for donators x
