  1. ^^ Not sure about that ... Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant all ... you may see how it ties into MTWBT I see the "red dress" symbol as Objectified Other (i.e. the Tropico/Carmen pole dancer) in contrast to the White Dress Cult of Isis: http://www.sacred-texts.com/eso/sta/sta10.htm (Ruth Hoberman) Below the Abyss in our outer world of the senses, beastly boys fight for girls on TV in black and white. Above the Abyss in her inner world of pneumatic realities, blonde girls kissing brunette girls in color. The individual soul becomes one with the Universal Soul; Lizzy becomes one with Lana. Deeper and deeper. The camera Subject perceiving the starlet as the Object. Pink flamingos are ironic and kitsch representations of Americana, of which she is fascinated. Which is to say, it is the Feminine Mystique. Soul perceived as unknown Other vs. Soul as apprehended from the depths of one's own waters. "Don't leave me now Don't say good bye Don't turn around Leave me high and dry" "I'm finally happy now that you're gone. Put my little red party dress on, Everybody knows that I'm the best, I'm crazy." "I, I see you're going So I play my music, watch you leave" She as the Goddess sees her children falling away from her as they are lost in the external world of time and space. But out of her love for them, she will play her siren song for them, in hopes of remembrance. Once again this maddening bitch has everything figured out already, and thus has nothing to do but wait for the rest of the Cruel World to return to her transtemporal Omega Point. Lolita in the Garden knowing what only the girls know, spinning Yé-yé tracks to pass the time. La Belle Dame Sans Merci sent to destroy her acolytes: http://www.bartleby.com/126/55.html The invitation in her smile is, 'Know me as I truly am, and not as I appear.'
  2. This article nails it -- http://www.salon.com/2015/09/13/the_existential_genius_of_lana_del_rey_performing_yearning_self_destruction_as_meaningful_as_don_drapers_and_just_as_uniquely_american/ "obsessed with ironic representations of American nostalgia" = the pink flamingos that she is fascinated with
  3. Her most complete identification with the White Goddess tbvh
  4. So you can get two turntables and play DJ when you crossfade the two trax
  5. There are always two versions of Lana ... The digital versions of her albums are always mastered very "dark" with a lot of sludgy bass and not much treble, which gives them that distinctive depressing funeral dirge vibe. The vinyls, in comparison, are filled with warmth and life. PM me and I can prove it. As far as artistic intent goes ... given how much promo she is doing for vinyl lately, she seems to prefer the latter format. It's only annoying to me because I always have to go on stodgy "the vinyl is better" audiophile rants around nonbelievers ("but she's, like, so dark and boring...").
  6. The original file on the BBC iPlayer is an 128kbps, 48khz AAC Mine is simply that file downloaded and split into tracks without quality loss The other version is ... from the OTA broadcast? What is "the radio" specifically? At first I thought this was the Radio 1 compressorized (the "the frequency/aggressive input") version, but it sounds good, actually, so idk? Does the BBC broadcast the uncompressorized stream somewhere?
  7. "I believe in the country America used to be. I believe in the person I want to become." She was interested in metaphysics because "it bridged the gap between God and science" so she seems to be looking for reconciliation Also she described herself as "spiritual" recently and talked about believing in psychics which doesn't exactly strike one as atheistic in the strictest sense
  8. mine is a direct stream rip of that without any quality loss All of my work
  9. Here, direct BBC iPlayer rip: https://www.dropbox.com/s/5e9r1lmaj2fst2i/Maida%20Vale%202015.zip?dl=0 (NOT A TRANSCODE)
  10. (to take a page from graham) if BTD is her Let's Dance then UV is Berlin and Honeymoon is Young Americans, and tbh it is preferable to watch your favorite artist sell out in reverse Use XLD (on OS X) to convert to Apple Lossless and set the Sample Rate to 48000 Hz as this is the highest the iPod will play (if you want to save space)
  11. Same link as before: https://www.dropbox....e 2015.zip?dl=0 This is what I did on OS X (there might be a simpler way, idk): Install VLC Install FFMPEG Install Fission Go to http://www.videograbber.net/ and paste the URL with the original stream Click Download and open in VLC Go to File > Streaming/Transcoding Wizard > Select Transcode/Save to File > Select the Existing Playlist Item you just added > Click Next > Select MPEG TS > Click "Choose" and name your file > Click Finish Let it play out until it finishes Open Terminal and type ffmpeg -i Then drag your .ts file into the Terminal window Add -c:a copy -vn -sn -bsf:a aac_adtstoasc output.m4a and hit enter Open Finder and hit Shift-Cmd-H to bring up the Home folder Drag the output.m4a into Fission and split the tracks Save the file and import into iTunes; tag as you wish
  12. OKAY I figured out how to grab the original AAC audio on the BBC site so this link is updated in PERFECT quality without any transcoding
  13. Yours is run through the radio compressor for broadcast, so it plays twice as loud as the version on the BBC site, which seems to be the "raw" file. So, differences of presentation. Someone still needs to rip the Flash file on the site directly, though.
  14. uggh okay the HQ stream is much better than that shit, sorry Here is a 256kbps version originally from DelReyLatest on Twitter (but disappeared?) -- DIRECT STREAM RIP I gain-boosted the volume and retagged: https://www.dropbox.com/s/5e9r1lmaj2fst2i/Maida%20Vale%202015.zip?dl=0
  15. This is direct from the 128kbps stream (not a transcode!!!) but I boosted the volume by 3db, tagged and split the tracks: Nm see below
  16. There's a 320kbps stream here but I can't access it from the US http://www.radiofeeds.co.uk/query.asp?feedme=BBC+Radio+1+%5BBR1%5D Can someone in the UK capture it with VLC? Just go to File > Streaming/Exporting Wizard > Transcode/Save > paste the URL in the Select a Stream box
  17. Does the BBC keep shows online after they air because that would make it less stressful
  18. Fantastic musings, all ... Maybe the reason the Lanalysists can never get anywhere is that she flits so easily between projections and those same withdrawn projections transformed into the imaginal, archetypal world. "Burnt Norton" divides between the idolized and worshipped goddess, impersonal and remote, and the desperate seeker -- i.e. the Public Persona as Other (the roses looked at) and the Private Individual. The White Goddess is such only after passing through the Black. Lizzy in her Keds speaks of her Muse; of becoming her Muse, since such the female Poet must do. You refer to her dual personae as Demeter and Persephone in the Mystery cultus. This fandom is basically the modern iteration of the Cult of Isis. Much more could be said there. The religious impulse is, again, a function of projection of an idealized Self onto an Other. "I don’t focus on feminism, I focus on the future." Lizzy most certainly encountered Teilhard de Chardin at Fordham (The Still Omega Point): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Phenomenon_of_Man https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Omega_Point This is described as a transition from a state of externalization (in the Without, all is Other) to a state of interiorization (in the Within or dark, burning heart of things) http://teilharddechardin.org/index.php/forerunners-in-the-united-states
  19. A high-resolution vinyl rip is on the torrent sites If you're not in love with this album and don't have a record player, get it, it is a m a z i n g on a hi-fi
  20. How is this a question, the answer is Honeymoon all of it Freak is when you get your freak on to that pussy-dripping muddy trap bass; everything before that is foreplay
  21. Use Firefox with the Video Downloadhelper extension to capture the direct mpeg stream
