LDR5 Pre-Pre-Release Thread - Take 2
LaserKitten replied to Elle's topic in Retired Pre-Release Threads
Just speculating, but it's not really like Lana to go to this much effort/promo for *just* a music video. At the very, very least I think it'll be a Ride-type extended video, or (more likely) a Tropico multi-song short film. Today is a good day -
Yep, MDM is outstanding. I think the Hackney performance was the moment I fell deeply, permanently in love with Lana. Top 3 on BTD for sure.

Idolator just posted a rather glowing academic assessment of 'Lana's America' in a post-Trump context, referring particularly to National Anthem and Ride. Figured here was a good place to drop it, sorry if it's better somewhere else: http://www.idolator.com/7655909/lana-del-rey-american-dream-trump

Academy Awards The Oscars Jan.-Feb. 2017
LaserKitten replied to graham4anything's topic in Movies & Television
La La Land is lovely but I wish it wasn't dominating the awards season. Would love to see Moonlight get a bit more love, and Natalie Portman gave a much more interesting performance than Emma Stone (as much as I love ES). I swear to god in Jackie there was a scene that featured the descending string line from National Anthem. Possibly coincidental but it was super obvious to a Lana fan. Anyone else pick that up? -
The word that always pops into my head when I think of what I'd like from future LDR music is 'muscular'. Like, a little more backbone, a bit more assertive, possibly even angry, sarcastic or ironic. Or even just more playful and wry? I adore all of her albums and unreleased, but we all know she can be a bit more sassy and confrontational when she chooses to be. Following HM with a harder-hitting sound would be such a good move IMO, and give her more material for festivals (at the very least). I dunno, she should do what she damn well pleases but a boy can dream...

I'm just grasping at straws, I know, but a reasonably 'high budget' video with 'special effects' may suggest a surge of confidence from Lana's record label? Also the suggestion of more than one video being prepped. Based on not much more than conjecture, this could signal (possibly) a more commercial, radio-friendly sound? Honestly, an album that suggests the sound of the 'untouchable 5' is pretty thrilling. Btw, out of interest, does anyone know why they were dubbed 'untouchable'?

I feel like UV was angry & raw, a bitter response to how she'd been treated by some following BTD/P Honeymoon (to me) felt like resignation and doing what the fuck she felt like. Putting the anger behind her and disappearing more into her beautiful/tortured 'world'. I kind of feel like God Knows I Tried is the touchstone of the album, even if it's not a stand-out track. I feel like the new album will be the next step but I have no idea what that could be - a return to a more radio/chart-friendly sound, or further into her own aesthetic? (I do wonder about the (pretty dubious) references to 'Diana' and 'Monroe' tho - if real, does she see herself in a similar way to these doomed, troubled, prematurely dead figures? That could be a bit...off, if not handled carefully.)

Dana Point, CA @ Ohana Festival - August 28th, 2016
LaserKitten replied to PlaceboHoliday's topic in 2016 Festival Tour
She looks stunning. All the way down to her ankles...and then -
Looks like another successful show - she looked & sounded great as far as I can tell. I'm assuming the setlist was the same/similar to what we've seen so far? It would be so great at this point for her to throw in something new for the fans - Salvatore would be perfect, and TBD could work with the backing singers. Maybe a tiny snippet of a new song (too optimistic?). Regardless, it seems these festival gigs are going well for her and she seems happy and confident, which is great!

But isn't that just business as usual with Lana? Except for her fans, I think there's probably a bit of morbid curiosity about her from the general public. I would imagine that for many people, Lana is still the morose girl who apparently fucked up on SNL, as dumb and ancient as that is to us. If it means they're pleasantly surprised, that's a good thing I think. -

She's getting some really positive reviews for the Osheaga show: http://exclaim.ca/music/article/lana_del_rey-sc_ne_de_la_rivi_re_montreal_qc_july_30 http://montrealgazette.com/entertainment/music/osheaga-review-bad-girl-lana-del-rey-wins-big-as-day-2s-leading-lady The latter one is especially good, it's nice seeing music writers take her seriously. -

Yes, thank you for all your tireless work with the shows, @@PlaceboHoliday. You have been brilliant! -
Lana at a recent Bruce Springsteen concert!
LaserKitten replied to gloomyharlow's topic in Sightings
Is her hair shorter? She looks fabulous and happy, and I hope this translates to less melancholic/sombre songs in future (as much as I adore them) and a more playful, sassy era. -

Ahh of course he did! Absolutely agree that they would mesh well, Lana could really embrace the dark side Doesn't Cronenberg have a sideline music career as well? -

Bruce Wagner wrote Maps to the Stars. Not surprised Lana attended. The film adaptation was nightmarish, an extreme (and gruesome) story about the darker side(s) of Hollywood. Definite David Lynch vibes. I'd love to see Lana involve herself with more independent film (maybe a more experimental sound?)
