When did she get the surgery? She had 8 years to work on the album 😂 also when she met fans last night she told us she had a cold and though she sounded pretty bad. Then said she had no voice up until 6 hours ago and her doctor told her she shouldn't perform that night. 🙄

She got a fibroid tumor out in February 2020, but even dating back to 2017 she said she didn’t feel like she was healthy enough to release an album because she would like to tour it (where most artists get much of their earnings from). Even if she had toured it suffering from increasing health problems, I don’t doubt some of y’all would’ve found something to complain about ddd. Every artist knows their limit and if they don’t think their body is well enough to go on a strenuous world tour, that’s their call and their call only :hooker:

  2. That Guardian interview was actually pretty sad. Some excerpts below for those who care

    Spoiler

“Otherwise it is hard to draw Ferreira on specifics, though her erraticness seems less like the trait of an unreliable narrator than a woman who has frequently been made to doubt her own reality, whether by the police who told her she invited sexual assault (twice) as a young teenager because she was quiet, or the mercurial employer she has been tethered to for half her life.”

“She describes her experiences with Capitol since Night Time as “grey-listing”, and claims the label says people don’t want to work with her. “Well, no, they might not wanna work with you guys, actually,” she says. She says they call her “crazy, I’m mentally ill, I’m difficult, I’m unprofessional – oh, I’m a drug addict. That’s by far everyone’s go-to.”

“Things changed recently when Ferreira asked Capitol to acknowledge what they had put her through. “You have literally ruined my life,” she says emphatically. “My life was taken from me. It’s not just like a job to me. It’s literally me. It was like literally being in solitary confinement. I felt like I was gagged and bound.”

“And some Masochism songs allude to an unspecified abusive relationship. “Once I do trust someone, I’m loyal to a fault,” she says. “I’ll stay in a situation because I don’t want to feel like I’m going to hurt them, yet they can treat me like a punching bag,” she says with a desperate laugh. She says one person gaslit her to the point of a nervous breakdown.”

“I’m more just frustrated about the gaps between my records. And I got robbed of my 20s.” Another wheezy laugh. Since returning to the public eye, “people are talking about me like I’m an old crone now. It’s funny but because I’m not always posting pictures of myself, they’re expecting me to look like I’m 18. I don’t really have lines on my face. But also, I’ve been through a lot so it probably shows!”

  3. “She has chronic health issues including scoliosis and Lyme disease. During a medical for a film role, the doctor pointed out that she had a long-term broken rib. She intended to release Masochism before addressing her “huge” uterine fibroids, but ultimately delayed working on the music to get surgery, and is glad that she did.” :ohno: I didn’t know it was this bad

i would literally kill for a properly recorded julee cruise cover

when she covered Falling for David Lynch’s festival
she looked and sounded divine :flutter:

  5. Has she ever said what autoimmune disease she was diagnosed with around 2017? I think we forget to factor in her health when we talk about why she’s not released in the past. I remember in 2020 after her surgery, she told a fan she was supposed to get physical therapy but then the pandemic happened or smth

  6. Idk whose idea it was for someone like her to go on a festival run but like someone said, having her own tour in more intimate venues would’ve spared her from all that chaos. Running late when there’s a tight schedule for you and other performers is just straight up unprofessional, I sympathize if she gets stage fright or something but c’mon at some point she needs to get it together if she wants to be a musician.

  7. It’s confusing because she’s not late to the festivals themselves as she “soundchecks” in advance, but like is she having panic attacks backstage nnn

anyone else just adore this song?

the change from the darker vibe to major chords during the chorus is so beautiful especially at the end. the spirit of courtney love possessed her :angie:

it better not steal a spot from descending though

It sounds like Petals off the Celebrity Skin album but more post-punk, loves it :defeated:

Laughing at her releasing something (music video?) the same day as Halsey but um...why does the DF in her stories sound better than the official version?

They’re rehearsing, I think June 9th is her first festival performance

  10. It would honestly be best for all parties involved if they could just drop her from their roster tbh, she already basically is independent with how she self funds sessions and who knows what else. They’re never gonna get Sky to be the next Britney as they originally intended because sis just doesn’t chart/barely has any music out partly due to her and partly due to their doing.

  11. I mean if I were her I’d definitely be a little mad about it too + especially how quickly they “resolved” the conflict nnn it was such a transparent marketing move that it’s a slap in the face to artists who actually have had to struggle with their labels. In what world were we supposed to believe Capitol Records was blocking the release of a song with an already existing music video and produced by one of the most expensive producers in pop?

Well, Halsey has done the right thing and has released mainstream sounding albums/songs to make the label (who invest the money for music, shows and releases, duh) happy and get big sales/streams.

That's why Halsey had the permit to release more experimental/alternative music like "Nightmare" and the rest of "If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power".

But Sky is very tough/hard and won't listen to the label. She needs to understand that first she needs to pay the money she owes and then she can be the artists she wants to be. But it's almost as if she wants everything for free lol

Everything about this is a little
 :crossed:

I mean, I think she's fully capable... maybe she needs someone like sza had to just tell her that it's time... honestly the best music/albums are from artists who make what they want to make despite all the bs. I hope we get descending this year at least

I fear SZA’s label needs to steal her flash drive again where is the album we want the damn album

you can like an artist as a whole and be critical of a body of work. the difference is that critics aren't stans ( who can't separate their identity from an artist the love ). the enmeshment i've seen lately is insane ( not limited to sky in the slightest).

at the same side of things you can say " oh this critic sucks and i don't agree " and go about your day.

like i hate pitchfork, i didn't read the review but the takes i've seen on twitter that we only need to tell her good things or she'll have a mental breakdown and never release anything is pathetic. like i've straight up seen " we need to pretend to like this song so she'll release more "

Taste is subjective so yes I agree no one should hound someone else for their opinion on whatever piece of art or entertainment but I’m just saying I noticed this isn’t the first time they have pulled something like this. Sky shouldn’t be coddled or shielded as she is grown, even she said it in an excerpt:

“I’m not trying to chase people with my music, you know,” she continues. “If you like it, you like it. If you don’t, you don’t. But at the same time, there were a lot of people that supported me through this, and I don’t want it to fail either, or to fail them.”
