I know it’s delusional and it would take up a spot that could go to a new original song but I hope Voices Carry final makes it onto the album. Her rendition really makes the song her own, no one else that has covered it has  matched and/or possibly topped the original except for Sky’s. It also slots in nicely within the theme of the album.

it still probably could’ve passed as a good comeback choice if it was like a buzz thing, and descending or something was released as the actual lead alongside the album announcement like 2 or 3 weeks after. but it is a strange impression when it’s all we have after over 3 years. it’s definitely going to grow on me again in the context of masochism as a whole, whenever that happens

This, DHL feels futile as a single because they didn’t follow it up with anything and they didn’t even let her make a music video. Imo it’s far from a bad song but I can see how for some people it doesn’t lend itself to repeated listens due to how long and heavy it is sonically and thematically. I hate the excuse of “____ sounds better in the context of the album,” but Downhill would have been complemented by the other songs.

Like others have said the quality of the leak is compressed and edited but y’all are probably setting yourselves up for disappointment if you’re expecting a totally different sounding song, you’ll just grow tired of it from listening on loop before it’s even officially out. If it was gonna leak (even though it shouldn’t have), it could’ve at least been 2-3 days before and not over a week in advance

I agree, if they hadn’t dragged out this single release and had just dropped Masochism as a whole package she wouldn’t be going on that festival run with only one song out. But since it’s been so long, it doesn’t hurt that she’s at least putting it out how she intended to years ago. 

I know Don’t Forget was always slated to be one of the two singles but I can’t help but wonder if she maybe would’ve benefited more from just surprise dropping the whole album—especially after how things were so easily halted post-Downhill Lullaby. Because of how long they’ve dragged out the campaign, I think there was always bound to be some disappointment even if this were the best song to ever be recorded

Yeah I don’t think it’ll get scrapped either, if I were her team I would move the release date up though. I don’t believe I’ll listen, after waiting years what’s a few more days to get it in good quality with a visual

In a way I am relieved this hasn’t leaked fully considering how long it’s been circulating for? The selfish stan in me would love to hear it after such a long wait obviously but realistically it would be so messy and counterproductive for her if it surfaced on Dbree and the like.

I don’t quite know who she’s signed to now but I was under the impression it was an indie label and that’s how she got the EP out? That’s a shame though I guess at the end of the day they’re all the same with how they treat their lesser known artists. It’s ridiculous they don’t believe in her, I think her voice is so unique and the way she writes about things stands out for that very reason.

I’m not taking offense to anything as you have never corrected me afaik, I just said to me it seemed like you had an attitude which you have a right to disagree about. Let’s just leave it at that, there’s so few of us in this thread for us to fight and derail it. We appreciate you share whatever you do know with us but I don’t know how it lets her label know it’s circulating, I don’t think they even care about Zella unfortunately (not saying this is your fault). It seems odd they’re holding this release back as she’s alluded to it being done for a hot minute (especially if you and other people have already listened to it) and there’s clearly an audience urging to hear it so what’s the hold up on their part??

I can’t speak for everyone but you do tend to have a passive aggressive tone like it’s an inconvenience to you when someone doesn’t have all the correct info. I don’t remember having any bad blood with you prior to last month, I actually appreciated you would drop random lyrics etc.

I don’t know what exactly you seem to think I lied about, my friend worked with Sky’s stylist and was asked to pull a CELINE look for a video, same way they asked him to pull outfits for the Pitchfork cover story (for which she also wore CELINE). I don’t rub it in people’s faces or ride on a high horse like you do, that person who compiled the track titles in this thread was just having a dialogue and you turned it into them suddenly being “jealous” you’ve heard the album and corrected them about the September date when Zella did in fact say that on a livestream. NTMT recording sessions were paid out of her own earnings no? That’s the only reason they let it come out after shelving whatever iteration of it existed before.

It basically means that while still signed to Capitol, they’ll have less control over her work, copyright administration, etc. so for example if her music were to be used commercially in a TV show or a film through Third Side, she’ll now get more royalties than she would’ve before. She also gets creative aid from the head of A&R.

I always wonder how many albums worth of songs she has in the vault, shame about Tigre and Moon Slot Junkie…

Well no I don’t believe it’s about common sense if even you were doubting there’s an effort being made this time? We’re painfully aware that if she weren’t planning on a release then no effort for press and publicity would be happening, she’s said it herself on that Pitchfork digital that she would only do it if she had something to promote. This new development is for press in a mag she’s worked with before, although I dunno the issue #.

You need to take it down a notch lol, in what way would it benefit me if y’all waited or not for her music? The same friend I’ve mentioned before was kind enough to tell me she’s booked something that I thought to be a good sign a release is coming (it’s not another festival). If Sky herself isn’t keeping y’all in the loop I thought I’d at least try to, but I guess it was a mistake if it’s just gonna make people more impatient. You don’t have to believe it if you don’t want to but there are teams doing things behind the scenes for her, it goes beyond it just being Sky and her unreliable self.

I actually don’t know what those were for, if she’s wearing this Certain high fashion brand I was told they would dress her in for a video then maybe it is that. Once I know more I’ll definitely keep y’all updated hehe
