mine was from Rough Trade, but I'm from the UK so I didn't have your customs issues and it arrived on time though shipping was still expensive, it was signed but possibly the smallest (and slightly damaged?) signature plate I've seen out of all of them (where you got it from seemed to pay a part in that, which seems unfair). it's honestly really disappointing as that's literally the only reason I (and most people, let's be real) bought it in the first place. I'm guessing they either forgot to put the sticker on yours or there was just a mix-up in the warehouse. I hope you get your money back, I definitely won't be buying anything from them again, if I'd known she'd have signed books in waterstones I would have bought it from there, but by that time I'd already pre-ordered via the link someone had found, as I assumed they would be bought really quickly when she posted the link

I agree, the production list she posted had 9 visible tracks but you can see there's at least one more right at the bottom, but it's only a few pixels of black, we also have 6 snippets but marina's track record with snippets isn't great I don't mind a short album if there's no skips, but when you have 10 tracks and a few of them are duds then it ventures into EP territory. imo it feels more disappointing to have 15 tracks with 5 duds than 10 tracks with no skips.

she liked a comment asking if the album is coming in aquarius season, so we'll have it by then. I feel like it's going to be february as she's changed the spotify canvas of the TFJ songs (also released in february, but maybe a reach) and it also gives her a bit more time as she's only finishing the production now. either way, I'm glad the album is going to have a quick turn around, I hate the trend of releasing a single then waiting months for the next single and album. especially as marina tends to change the single artwork style in the interim too like obsessions, radioactive and man's world.

I thought exactly the same. I think with l+f we were expecting 'why' she was missing so long, some angst and explanation in her music (which is in some outtakes like demons + angels) but she came around with 'enjoy your life! :)' which was disingenuous, and we all knew it, including her. adiaml feels more honest but her writing still isn't up to par, though that's more evident on the political tracks rather than personal ones imo. I'm not sure she can ever get to MATD levels again but I'd rather be pleasantly surprised rather than let down, she writes best when she's writing from specific* personal experiences or has a theme (adiaml title track springs to mind, and obviously electra heart). (*she admitted she didn't do this for l+f, she wrote 'generally' and why I think her cover of 'only want you' from the era feels like it could have been on the album) I agree with you, I actually wrote a bit more in my original post but deleted it because it felt too long. but in short, my opinion is to get around the accusations that you're only coming out to 'sell' something is you either make the product good, and therefore it doesn't need selling, or you form a parasocial relationship to sell the product, marina isn't doing either and that's where she's been falling short. there are successful artists that don't interact with their fanbases at all and just drop music and hide away again, but I think if you didn't start that way it's quite difficult to make the transition, you almost have to make the music twice as good to make up for the lack of interaction, which again, she hasn't been doing and I can't see her doing. (as much as I would like her to bring out a 10/10 album and would be happy to be proven wrong.)

yes the diamonds were supposed to be her fans, whilst 111 was right and she’s said things like ‘no I don’t love you, I don’t know you’ she has, in the MATD era at least, been very vocal about how grateful she is to her fans as she wouldn’t be able to do what she does without the support of them. especially in the FROOT era as the success of the album was due to the fanbase, it’s why it’s still held in such high regard, and imo why some fans are missing that ‘hit’ of recognition now. the truth is I don’t think we’ll ever get MATD levels of interaction again because she’s not in her 20s anymore. it’s not that 39 year olds can’t be ‘with it’ but I think she’s made it clear she doesn’t want to be ‘with it’/on social media anymore. (and as she’s blocking teenagers for mild reviews of her poetry that’s probably for the best) I’m not sure why she (or her team) didn’t think to make the event shorter if she didn’t actually have anything to say for 2hrs, if it was an hour and she stayed even 10 minutes longer with some faux ‘omg I really have to go but you guys are great’ everyone would be hyping her up right now. yes parasocial relationships in this current age are going too far, but you have to foster them a bit or people ‘notice’ they’re being sold something. after all it’s not regular poetry readers are buying her book, it’s her fans. ___ in other news she said the album is finishing production so I’m wondering about the schedule. I don’t think we’ll get a single this year as it’s cutting it a bit fine, but she has the 10 year anniversary of FROOT in March so will she release a single, promote that then jump back to m6? seems a bit messy but it would be on brand.

it seems like marina's been channelling sky ferreira and arriving 10m late and leaving 30m early on her book tour, she also blocked a fan on instagram for posting a slightly negative review (reddit thread) I think it's fair enough that marina might want questions unrelated to music but then the questions should've been pre-screened (maybe a questionnaire before the event then asked by the host?), but most fans would have bought it on the day of the event with their ticket so I'm not sure how anyone was supposed to ask poetry related questions anyway

honestly that was about all the information in the poem lol, it's written in this 'stream of consciousness' style which she struggled to read, however I think it is very effective at conveying that upset/panic attack moment when you want to say what's wrong and it comes out as gibberish. she's reposted people sharing her poems on her instagram stories so I don't think she minds them being posted, they're also on the wiki if you want to see all of them, these are the ones I think are about jack. school of life (this was just before the album came out in early april 2019, but the actual speech wasn't recorded so there are only some clips by people that were there) million tiny cuts out of production marie kondo

so the poetry book came out in some (but not all?) countries yesterday so both the ebook and the audiobook have been 'leaked'. initially I just read the ebook, I didn't find the experience of reading the ebook to particularly be enjoyable as, unsurprisingly, I found the linebreaks to disrupt the flow. I would say only about 20% of the poems (the ones she's already previewed) were formatted 'artistically', with the other 80% formatted more like beautiful/evil. this being said, she still used line breaks in strange places, this is really apparent when you listen to her read the audiobook and also have the book open to read along to, she doesn't follow the line breaks the majority of the time. I think the most egregious example of bad formatting is probably eat the world itself. for some poems there were some instances where she had a sentence over three lines, but as the style was two lines to a paragraph, the third line would paired with an irrelevant next sentence start from the next paragraph. grievances over, and maybe controversially, I do think some of the 'artistic' formatting was quite fun when used deliberately and sparingly, like how she formatted 'down' in the sparkling clam overall the audiobook was a much better experience and I enjoyed listening to it, though it isn't set to music. I do hope she puts production behind her audio and puts them on streaming, as all the poems come across much better in her own voice even the 'badly written' ones we've previously dragged discussed. as for the actual contents, it reads as personal and clearly about things she wanted to get off her chest, though I wasn't 'shocked' by anything she said. I did find some of the poems very relatable, but others might not. there was only one other music related 'lore' drop, like aspartame relating to hollywood, in 'smoothness of money,' she talks about the posh boyfriend that was embarrassed of her (seventeen). I wish there was more, but all the poems other than those two are written about things since she's been in LA, with the exception to school of life, where she says jack upset her in the car after her speech in 2019.

honestly her reaction seemed a little strange to me (clip for those who haven’t seen it) but maybe it’s a case of being overwhelmed by all those people in person wanting the song vs people typing in her comments? if I were her I would have said ‘I have something special planned for FROOT’s anniversary’ as she’s alluded to it being on there already. I feel like people are going to assume she’s changed her mind again when it’s not on Spotify in the next few weeks.

someone who went to the book event posted this to reddit: I'm assuming 'butterfly' is the same song we got a snippet of months back edit: we also got confirmation she’s a fan of rupi kaur

so we've had brat, and tarb... when are we getting ʇɐɹq? there's three. (tbh I think this was in referral to girl so confusing, guess and talk talk remixes but we'll see, upside down is southern hemisphere brat summer)

disappointment often comes from expectation so I’m not surprised the album is so polarising. personally I was expecting club classics/cc nrg, spiralling, a longer version of 365 and mean girls from the boiler room. I haven’t listened to the album properly as it comes out on friday so I can’t really pass any judgement other than ‘it’s not what I was expecting’ did someone say she was planning to release the boiler room remixes in the zane lowe interview? so is there going to be another remix album? (a non-stop remix album perhaps) or will she just drop them randomly? where is this ‘mass of material’ she promised to drop? why do artists keep saying this, it never happens.

exactly! speaking of more information she did a podcast on her chronic fatigue, (nothing on new music, so don't watch it expecting that), it's so sad to hear how happy she was during the froot era then all these things started going wrong for her (starts around 7m in) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqze7e3G_Wc

she’s posted a partial recording list and teased the title ‘P.O.P’ which someone has speculated in the comments might be an abbreviation of ‘position of power’ as you can see ‘-f power’ on the recording list https://www.instagram.com/p/DAZpkpRSRAa/?img_index=3

100% agree with everything you said. I said a few pages back I think she should have maybe marketed this as a memoir and ditched some of the rupi kaur line breaks (which makes it harder to read imo), but I think 'poetry book' is the current marketing buzzword at the moment. it's obvious she has a lot that she wants to get off her chest and feels like she can't sing those things, in pain eraser she said: line breaks omitted. the things i need to write about are the things i'm scared to write about, lest they blow up my life and everything i tried so hard to save / mend / bury / heal. if she sings about some of these things they're going to get so much more attention than if she just puts them in a poetry book and she'll have to sing them on tour for weeks. I think with over decade of releases she can just release her one little poetry book, new music is coming in 2025, and she'd already said she was taking a break because of her chronic fatigue so I don't think this poetry book has delayed the album at all.

sorry but this is so disingenuous? this is London: (Manchester is cheaper £18 for admission, £30 & paperback) £34 general admission £48 & paperback (10% discount) £56 for front row £71 & a signed paperback (10% discount) £22 for students, or those with a disability, or on universal credit £35 & paperback (10% discount)

I feel like the grammys are shrodinger’s cat rn, like they mean absolutely everything and absolutely nothing until charli is nominated and/or wins. (personally they don’t mean much to me as I always feel like the same few people seem to sweep and it feels bias, but it would be nice for charli to win one as she seems to want one)

I agree, I don't think her poetry is the 'best' by any means and I hate the formatting, but I do like to learn about her life, aspartame was about the trip that inspired hollywood which I loved reading about tbh. edit: also watching this it obviously means a lot to her and helped her work through a lot of stuff so I really glad she's feeling better

I'm obviously not a L+F lover by any means, but the album is mostly about a man she isn't with anymore, who also helped produce some of the album, she admitted orange trees and enjoy your life (and I suspect true) were made to try and make herself feel happier than she was, so I'm not really surprised it doesn't 'resonate' with her, what is there for her to 'resonate' with? I'm curious to see what this album's rollout will be like as she has full creative control now, I don't want to set my expectations too high though, also she said new music is coming next year, not this year like she said before.

Guess is almost her #10 viewed YouTube video edit: 7000 pages

I have a crackpot theory we're getting two remix albums, a red one and a blue one (perhaps a reference to the matrix?) a white 'brat' vinyl variant was released before we got the white cover of 'brat and it's the same but there's three new songs so it's not,' and we have a red and blue vinyl variant. I have no other evidence, it's purely a vibe.
