  1. hahah wow @JPOP. I only know Koda Kumi or something...

It's kinda weird you don't listen to other ~alt artists besides Lana though

yeah her, amy winehouse, and my own songs written in english are the only english speaking artist I listen to - rest are Japanese.

oh and taylor swift, but that's because she is popular here on the radio and tv.

  2. Well, there's a reason he's your ex right?

All jokes aside, Sufjan Stevens makes beautiful music. You should give him another chance

I'll try but tbh I have a very narrow selection of music. Lana, Bubblegum JPOP, and orchestral/classical music. And that's kinda it.

    I will try tho 4 u

  3. Some of Lana's best stuff is the "unreleased" (not on Sirens) acoustic stuff from the formative years.
If she went back to those songs - In Wendy, Pin Up Galore, Wayamaya, 1949, etc. - I think musically, "sonically"  :quote: she could have a very solid next album.

That being said, I am completely aware that these songs are very juvenile and contain an innocence that has now left her lyrics and melodies. As such it may be something that ends up sounding forced and uncharacteristic. But still, I want that sort of album.

  4. Hoping for something that's a bit more experimental in a more mid-tempo or upbeat way.

Also, something that is reflective of her current position in life.
I know that she said she didn't feel the need to write so much about herself for HM, so I have a feeling that the next album will be the least personal yet. And I feel like if that's the case then the songs can get a little bit faster in tempo and a little more experimental.

  5. I have a playlist on my iPhone "LDRS" - Lana Del Rey Sex:

    Hundred Dollar Bill (Demo)

    Beautiful Player

    Behind Closed Doors

    Driving in Cars with Boys

    In the Sun

    Butterflies (Part 2)

Making Out (Version 2) - (the steady bass works together well with my pace around this time)  :brows:

Meet Me in the Pale Moonlight

    Playground
    Queen of Disaster

  6. I've been trying to put together a good surf/surf noir playlist and this is what I have currently. Any suggestions?

    Surf

    1. Hawaiian Tropic

    2. In the Sun

    3. National Anthem (Demo 2)

    4. TV in Black & White

    5. Blue Jeans

    6. West Coast

    7. Trash (Magic) (Demo - the one spliced together with The Man I Love)

    8. Lolita (Grech Demo Mix)

    9. Driving in Cars with Boys

    10. Queen of the Gas Station

    11. Every Man Gets His Wish

    12. Kill Kill

    13. Backfire

    14. Shades of Cool

Obviously not all of these are really "surf," but I also wanted to include some songs that I really enjoy listening to no matter what mood I'm in.

  7. Come on. It's totally about Taylor. The girl even has a minute and a half long monologue at the beginning of her video, which then ended up winning "Best Female Music Video" as well as being nominated for "Best Music Video" at the MTV awards. Taylor completely copied Lana's concept (save for the epilogue - Taylor's ended with the song), and she also used Lana's ex boyfriend. We know how attached Lana is to her men.

While I'm not trying to stir shit, the connection is clearly there. It's stronger than any other connection people have tried to make - even the one incorporating Lady Gaga.

  8. That's a screencap from iTunes Japan, isn't it? I'd say the bonus track for Japan is just "Flipside" then, but that you get both "Flipside" and "Is This Happiness" if you buy the album via iTunes.

Yeah, it is. I looked up on Amazon Japan and the physical edition doesn't have Flipside or This is Happiness, so it looks like both are iTunes specials. There are imported versions on amazon that I can order as well, but they don't have any tracklistings.

  9. I love this song. It sounds like one of her songs that would leak without actually getting a release - the songs we all wish she would release. This to me sounds like an evolution from Prom Song (Gone Wrong) in a way. Prom Song is written from the adolescent side of love while this is written from an experienced one - one that has dealt with heartbreak, loss, and trying to move on.

    I absolutely love it.

  10. I met someone who I was in love with for three years in New York City, and then after meeting and telling each other we loved each other, he ignored me for the remainder of the time I was in the city. Backfire had just leaked, and I happened to listen to it and download it and that became the anthem for the rest of my trip. I cried listening to it on repeat while riding the subway just to kill time until I went back home. So that song is immensely sad for me personally.

Pawn Shop Blues also perfectly describes how I broke up with my last boyfriend, and I don't think I can listen to it without crying. I think it's beautiful but so many memories of that relationship is laced within it that I never listen to it.
