If we get another bunch of ugly artworks, uninspired visuals and low-effort packagings I blame all of the sycophants who pretend that the NFR triple video was good, call the LMLYLAW coverpic cute and say that the CoCc artwork is not trash. -

What I hope we'll get: - Zach Dawes as the producer - A more raw energy - Interesting instrumentals with e-guitars & well-arranged drums - Dealer - Good visuals - Release on June 1 2021 What I fear we'll get: - Jack Antonoff - a bunch of slow ballads - lifeless instrumentals - another terrible, low-effort Coverart - release on May 25 2022 -

I hope this is produced by Zach. Maybe that's why she did not include Dealer - she wanted to put it on that new project where it would fit in better -

I bet it will be postponed for whatever reason, e.g. cause she choses to release "Institution" first. Really hope that with that title, the album will not be as soft and lull as CoCc. And I pray that the pic from insta is not the actual cover lol. -

We all experienced September 5th. So let's not get too excited -
But all the scenes with Lana are jarring, cringy and not vibing with the song at all since they are so unprofessional and badly put together - considering both the acting and the outfits/setting. The only good parts of the vid are the ones with the bodydouble. They are beautiful and match the vibe of the track. Just because it's not Lana herself does not change that.
-
The body double is the best part of the video. Her skating down the highway and boulevard are the only aesthetic scenes in this, the only visuals that go along with the vibe of the track. All the other scenes were random and lacked any kind of artistic vision. I'd rather not have seen this Toys R Us "Let's play food-truck" scenes with the masks, the hipster outfits and lana being a bad actress. Not with that bs Bartender section, where she behaves like a dump 16yo who stole her dads car to be eDgY while one of her most touching ballads play in the background.

The vinyl will be puke-green. The flower of the era is going to be a tulip. There will be 13 songs. Dealer will not be on it. The coverart will be even worse than CoCC, being a LQ featuring that weird old Jen-lady she considers a mother. Ok I think I played through the whole pre-pre-release thing, see you in 6 months. -
That was not directed @you

I can't believe y'all are cross about the body double. Stop being so over-obsessive. That's literally the only aesthetic and nice part of the video - the figure skating. The rest is messy and lacks artistic vision.
-
yet another Lana video where the picutres are not cut to match the flow of the song at all. Yawn. It's nice but that's it. The random fade-ins on her face are way too hectic and the scene with the pirateship did not fit the vibe of it at all.The restaurant part .. . yeah. A bit weird with the millennial teens and the masks and everything.

My problem with For Free is that it was not really executed very nicely. They are not "harmonizing" together - they just suddendly shout. Like - one of them sings the verse and then out of nothing the other two appear and overdramatically yell "for frREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeEE" and then disappear again.

I love this section but I always hear "a pretty little thought" The lyrics on Instagram even say it's "a brave little fool", which is DEFINITLY wrong. I think it is "And god I loved to sing", which makes much more sense, especially since she sings that nothing came from "either" (her being pretty and her loving to sing) Wanted to check the Instalyrics on this one too, but this whole section is missing there LOL.

I'd really have bought something but this is just such an incredible cashgrab. Postcards for 25$? A white ashtray with a simple logo on it for 20$?

So, after listening to the album for a while since it leaked, I feel like this is a really good album - yet not the most interesting body of work she ever created. When I first heard it, I did not know how to feel about it and by now I kind of realized that I will probably not develop any "strong feelings" about it. There is not really anything to dislike on CoCC, but I'm not hyped about it either way. There are no huge "lows" on it, but there is also nothing about it that really makes me go into the "replay the sh*t out of it" mood I usually get when listening to a new release. It's a solid album, but probably one of the least interesting one within her repartoire. And I dislike how the second half, starting with NAWWAL, is so monotonous that the songs kind of lose their momentum. Even Yosemite- which I absolutely adore with all of its Mazzy-Star-vibes - kind of feels stale within its context on the record. My favourite is defenitely Dark But Just A Game. I love the way it flows between this The Greatest-esque chorus and the slightly twisted and dark verses with that nice beat. It's the only song where I really fancy the lyrics aswell - most of the other tracks are not very exciting considering the lyrical content. I was super excited for Tulsa Jesus Freak, and while it turned out much weirder than I expected, I still love it. It may just be a weird theory, but it almost feels like the song is less about it's lyrics and more about the way it's produced. The song in itself is so classic-LDR, yet she kind of "sabotages" it with all the autotune and the fact she just starts to talk over the last chorus. White Dress is another standout. It's not just the unconvential vocal delivery, I also love the whole vibe of it - the excitement, the low-fi-grandeur ... The title track also really grew on me, it's catchy and has some pretty nice vocals. However, I still feel like it's a bit pale. When I first listened to it on Spotify, the algorithm played MAC afterwards and that track completely overshadowed CoCC. So yeah, in the end the album would most likely be on the lower spectrum of my album-ranking. Not because it's bad, but it's just not as exciting as her other work so far. But I could also see it growing on me overtime - after all it took me a while to love HM aswell. Right now it would be a 7/10

Haha yeah, Mad About You is the most famous Hooverphonic song. It's from back in the day when the band had a more defined song and surfes the post-Trip-Hop-wave of the early 2000s. They split up with Geike around 2010 and did a lot of ... well, very generic music after that. At one point, they did some cringy musical-esque shows and I in 2018, they even had some underage casting-show winner as their lead vocalist, which was a bit creepy. They reunited with Geike last year and released a slightly underwhelming, yet nice new version of Mad About You. And now they participate om the ESC with "The Wrong Place".
-
I usually hate this kitsch-event HOWEVER ... I'm a huge Hooverphonic-Fan. Well, at least their work up until "The President Of the LSD Golfclub". Everything they did after that tended to be a touch too mainstream-pop-ish for my personal taste. But they just reunited with Geike, the singer they collaborated with for the longest during the band's prime. While "The Wrong Place" is not really revolutionary, I'm still really hyped about this reunion and I HOPE they will make it to a good spot

Haha I don't know, I feel like the videos concept is all over the place. There are a lot of pretty scenes, but they are just cut in such a hectic/ chaotic way that does not fit the flow and pace of the track at all. It's like they had too much material but really wanted to include all of it instead of prioritizing a certain concept. That way, the whole plot kind of gets lost cause the video is so flooded with pretty pictures that only last 2 secons. I'd prefered a "less is more" concept with a stronger guiding thread through the "story" of the video. And a better postproduction, where the cutting pace matches the architecture of the song.
