"When the leaks stop, are you still gonna be as involved a fan?"

I became a Lana fan after listening to Born To Die album. At that time I didn't even know about the AKA Lizzy Grant album or other unreleased songs. I know that I would still be a fan if I had never heard any of them but now that I have I can't just forget them either. There are some real treasures among them that I have already grown very fond of.

Considering future leaks I honestly think that we have had enough of them for the time being. The flood of new songs two days ago was the first time I actually felt bad listening to them. It's not that I didn't like them but there was just too much leaked stuff for a single day and it felt so wrong....

If the leaks stopped I would still be here obsessing over Lana. If they don't I can't resist the temptation to listen to them. I just hope there won't be so many of them at once.

  2. but those types need to realize that individualized "culture" is dead in our globalized society and the future is just one big blender. All modern art is appropriation, especially in the post-internet age.

I don't mean that people shouldn't be allowed to be inspired by their own heritage. That makes for great art, too --- look at Lana's Americana obsession! Instead, I was taking issue with the stance that they should be limited to their own cultures when finding artistic inspiration, something that is quickly becoming impossible as the world globalizes.

Thanks for explaining your original thought. I was probably reading too much into this big blender thing that you mentioned in your first post. It's a somewhat touchy issue for me because it wasn't so long ago when my country was finally able to escape from one of those unions that tried to make all the people adopt similar culture and beliefs whether they wanted or not. The idea of getting into another blender wasn't very appealing when I read your post. But finding inspiration in other cultures is something completely different and I have nothing against this kind of mutual sharing.

But this is sad. Belonging to a small culture I refuse to be swallowed up by some global blender. Individuality is what makes different cultures so fascinating. I am not attacking Lana for wearing the headdress because I sincerely believe that she meant no offense but I can understand people wanting to keep some elements of their culture private. Maybe the melting is inevitable in the future but this doesn't mean that everybody has to calmly accept it.

  4. I had no idea that wearing an Indian headdress is such a sensitive issue in the US. :( I doubt Lana intended to offend anyone but I guess that it all depends on the Native Americans view of the matter. Would they think it's offensive? From afar the headdresses seem to be a great symbol that everybody would associate with the Native Americans and most people probabaly don't mean anything bad while admiring or wearing them. But it's true that they don't know about the cultural context in which it's appropriate to wear those headdresses...

OK I think I understand now why it might cause problems. It's not enough to ruin the video for me but being from the US Lana should probably know better which things might harm her image.
