I’m not familiar with that particular stylus, I’ve got an AT95e that I leave around 2.

I can’t say definitively, But I think it’s the bass in that song that’s causing the skip.

especially being at 1 “though I don’t know it’s specifications”

Whenever you get another turntable I think it should be fine.

As for the scratching, Have you wet cleaned the album?

A good option is the Spin Clean setup, Around $80 on Amazon - But will do a lot to preserve the quality of your records!

    :ma:

I’ll def have to try to wet clean it and see what happens . However many reviews on Amazon mentioned similar issues but I’ll try and let you know. Thanks :)

How heavy is the tracking force?

Hi sorry about the late reply. I had to work around that quite a bit actually as the manufacturer settings were off by a mile (they said 2.5 and 2.5 but it kept skipping) and after much Google searching and Reddit reading I found that many users who bought the house of Marley turntables had the same issues so I ended up with the needle arm balanced on 2.5 and tracking force around 1ish and it works better but still skips- I tried different kinds of combinations and that’s the best I could do.

what kind of turntable do you have? if you have one of those cheap suitcase style ones with the speakers inside, songs with heavy bass or abrupt volume changes will skip bc the speakers will cause the record to vibrate. also the stylus is too clunky and the tonearm is too free and tracks too heavy for the fine grooves of higher quality pressings so those will skip too. like idk if you ended up getting the uv deluxe but if you have one of those suitcase turntables, you'd be better off getting the standard bc the deluxe will skip.

Hey sorry about the late reply - I have a House of Marley turntable , I paid 200 € . It’s not highest quality but it’s pretty decent for an entry level turntable. Unfortunately I couldn’t get the uv deluxe because it’s on Amazon Belgium and they don’t ship to Italy 😭

  4. Also I don’t know about y’all but my pressing of the Amazon vinyl is 💩 - the Jimmy part skips several times, the piano track on sweet sounds like it goes off key and Peppers kinda scratches . I have read quite a few reviews like that. Has any of y’all bought the Amazon exclusive and had similar issues? I had to literally fight Amazon for a refund which they gave me after 3 days of asking

  5. Hello everyone

i’m a new collector of vinyls and I was wondering if you could help me make up my mind.

I am in two minds about buying UV deluxe version - the one with Florida kilos guns & roses and black beauty -  (which I found at the very competitive price of 30€) and Norman standard (34€).

I stan both uv and Norman although I tend to stan Norman a little bit more now that summer is approaching and I think I’ll enjoy it more.

    That said, my questions are:

    - how good is the listening experience in terms of pressing for both? Which is better?

    - will the price of both shift heavily on the long run or will they approximately remain the same?

I don’t want to splash out 60€ if I can buy one of them at a later time for the same price. Thank youuuuu looking forward to your replies and input. Xxx

  6. I don’t care, the live version of BUS with those live drums SLAPS! It’s so moody.

    Anyway

Stans got arrested out on the lawn
They might be breaking down after this song
Will they still love her long after she’s gone?
Did they see it coming all along?
Cause breaking down slowly is the right thing to do
Stans love her only but she’s making them blue
So don’t play them country like you always do
It’s hard to be a negative Nancy but it’s the right thing

  7. Upon much deliberation I have my temporary final ranking lol I'll probably change my mind again

    Spoiler

    - White Dress, right up there with the most emotional Lana songs for me (Ride, Old Money, Video Games, Yayo) - it's heartbreaking and deserves #1

    - Yosemite, she said it was too happy for L4L uh excuse me sir? It's so gloomy, she's mourning the summer of her life being almost over and the bridge shatters me every time

    - For Free, props to Jack here for adding some beautiful, subtle instrumentation to the already beautiful original piano melody - and the girls' voices come together beautifully

    - Breaking Up Slowly, this was a tight run against TJF because I feel like Jack went way overboard with TJF (the audio tune is SO distracting and sharp) and did not enough with BUS; I would have loved for it to be longer and have drums and an electric guitar solo

    - TJF, I really wanted to stan this song but the audio tune totally ruins it for me

    - NAWWAL, it's a cute song, nothing ground breaking but I'm a sucker for lovely melodies and when Lana gets her melodies right it's over, they get stuck in my head

    - Chemtrails, the song is not aging well and it sounds like it doesn't really sit anywhere in the record

    - DTWD, it's interesting that she took a turn halfway through the song and went bluesy on the bridge but it's not what I look for when I listen to Lana, I have Tom Waits for that, maybe I'll change my mind

    - DBJAG, this is going to be a fan favourite, and I don't hate it, I just think it's so out of place on this record and I hate that the verses are moody and the chorus is happy, it's so underwhelming

    - LMLYLAW, honestly this song does nothing for me, it's not a Roachella slander situation but meh I don't know

    - Wild at heart, I really wanted a song that kind of picked up where Quiet Waiter left off and I thought it was where this was going but then the HTD revival with those ugly Christmas bells gave me PSTD and it's a shame because the verses and pre-chorus are really sweet

I'm so glad you loved For Free! It's personally one of my favorites. As for Breaking Up Slowly having more potential, I do agree -- I'm honestly against the "yes-men" theory some fans have, but that's exactly where a producer should suggest the main artist. If he had such a grand vision (he's one of the most on-demand producers at the moment), he should've come up with some guitar solo or give Lana some more chords to make the song more complete and lengthy. Love it as it is, but definitely had more to offer. Same with Not All Who Wander Are Lost.

    Spoiler

For Free, right?! I'm so glad someone else appreciates it. It's beautifully played and the girls' voices fit so well. Nothing is out of balance. It's just beautiful.

As for BUS, please listen to the song Lonely Hands or Draw Your Swords by Angus and Julia Stone - imagine drums like those on BUS. It would have been a highlight!

  9. 'White Dress' is undeniably

    Spoiler

the highlight of the record for me. It's right up there with some of her saddest songs (which always happen to be about her younger years - yayo, old money, ride) - it might be a grower for some but whatever slander it might get for the high pitched vocals, it's only going to be the tasteless locals. White Dress and Yosemite honestly came through and ended me. I ALSO love how Jack rearranged For Free! The way he stumped on the piano keys in songs like The Greatest or MAC was horrific but here he tinkles the keys so beautifully! ( I can see how songs like TJF would be fan favourites but for me the Holy Trinity of Chemtrails is White Dress - Yosemite - For Free. )

Breaking Up Slowly : it had such great potential to be a moody, folk number if only Jack had used some deep live drums and percussions and maybe an electric guitar solo; instead it's just left to itself and it's a huge missed opportunity imo. Lana still has the gift of melody but Jack's work with her is often hit or miss. Some things are good (I loved all of Violet), other things are super weird (why do DTWD and TJF end so abruptly? and what's with that horrific audio tune?). Finally, DBJAG: this will probably be a fan favourite too. I hated it. NOT the song itself (although it's just very meh to me)  but it just doesn't belong in the album sonically like, AT ALL.

I'm still finding it hard to rank the songs outside of the triad I mentioned above and the last two places that go to LMLYLAW and DBJAG.

  10. Brown is the colour of the shit when they post scat storms
    The thread is locked
    On lanaboards
And red is the colour that you get with a warning point
    No snippets left
    White dress is gone
Elle gets so tired and she complains
about how it’s hard to deal
    With all us motherfucking ph*gs
But we’re just beautiful people with lanaboards problems (yeeeh)

Beautiful problems Elle knows she’s got them
    But she’s gotta try nanana
    And Eclipse is fried nanana

because you're SO much more knowledgable than I am, I decided to give it a Google search. Care to explain why almost every source considers "acoustic" and "unplugged" to be interchangeable?

Like I said in my previous comment, there is always a certain degree of flexibility. Some people consider acoustic to mean basically just guitar, piano (and sometimes drums). Others use the word unplugged for that kind of setting. But even in that case, some electronic instruments are allowed (listen to Nirvana's Unplugged, sometimes electric guitar is used; listen to Alicia Keys' Unplugged, sometimes a fender rhodes is used). If Beach House performed a song with just a classic guitar and a drum machine, would you consider it acoustic or not?

Acoustic music is music that solely or primarily uses instruments that produce sound through acoustic means, as opposed to electric or electronic means. Wikipedia

Explain the synthesizers, the electric guitar, the Hammond B3 (electric organ). Don't try me.

Oh I’m well damn trying you. ‘Primarily’ is there for a reason. ?

The word you’re looking for when you talk about music that is entirely free of electronic instruments and tools is “unplugged” (although there might be a degree of flexibility).

In what way is LMLYLAW "acoustic" my god.

    Worms for brains.

Giving me "Venice Bitch is psychedelic" ignorance

mate you need to get your facts straight before you go off the ? route

Acoustic does not necessarily only mean plucking a guitar in the backyard of a farmhouse  - lmlylaw is very much an acoustic pop ballad.

How about listening to the actual record first and then "review" it. :pft:

True - but this is just confirming what I had thought it was going to be from the beginning. Lana said it herself this was going to be an “eclectic” record aka a mess (for me) because I don’t enjoy records going in multiple directions and I prefer one defined sound for a record.

So let’s reassess the situation. We have

    - White Dress, acoustic pop/folk

    - Chemtrails, pop

    - TJF, pop/dream pop

    - LMLYLAW, acoustic flop pop

    - WAH, acoustic pop/folk

    - DBJAG, country/electro trip hop (maybe similar to WTWWAW)

    - NAWWAL, acoustic pop/folk

    - Yosemite, acoustic pop/folk

    - BUS, country pop

    - DTWD, acoustic pop/folk

    - For Free, folk

?? Mess For Life 2.0 confirmed

The Portishead sound route is interesting but I mean not in the context of a pop folk record ma’am? What is this mess? ??

Chemtrails is pop. Pop is a very wide genre. Chemtrails is definitely a pop, perhaps acoustic pop track.
