but you probably realize that norman is pretty hated in here which is so odd since it will go down as her greatest album next to BTD:P which also is pretty hated in here :rip: Personally i’m a huge Janis Joplin stan so maybe that’s why i dislike this cover so much, although there are so many great versions so :w8ing:anyway i’m just very surprised how this forgettable rendition is so acclaimed in here (and only in here)

wait , is Norman hated here? Anyway I too wasn’t too blown away by the song.
The instrumentals are so gorgeous though and very detailed, the backup singers are fierce. Lana’s tone in comparison is somewhat flat and I think her voice has been mixed way too loud - It’s so hard to sing jazz properly, I think it takes a lot of actual training and a specific technique and you shouldn’t attempt unless you know what you’re doing, like it’s really hard. Even Amy had her issues when singing standards or standard-sounding songs, and Amy was literally brought up on jazz.
I’m happy Lana’s happy that she’s helping though, this is important.

It's too surfy-sounding for this project, imo

It'll probably be called "Star Spangled Banner over Montana" or some shit, knowing her

Yea I do agree with you actually. It’s such a good title for a song or album though. Maybe more for a song actually.

But to come and think of it, the concept is way too specific to get a title of its own so I’ll go ahead and change my mind and agree that it’s probably going to be called American Standards & Classics -

kinda reminds me of what Norah Jones did with Green Day’s Billie when they did a cover album of American country songs called Foreverly

The way we've both decided it's called White Hot Forever when it very likely isn't

    Twinsies

(And if that's not what you're saying just play along pls ... I need someone to share fantastical delusions with)

    :omfg2:

Anyway, I think it might be called that because American standards are like songs from old Hollywood and Broadway 'n' shit, right? So like ... White Hot Forever signifying something that's timeless and shines forever

How about Pacific Blue? Wasn’t that the title of a cover album project she suggested a few years ago?

Do we think the album cover is gonna be her, or a scenery shot a la VB

I’d love for it to be some sort of scenery - also I wouldn’t mind if she did something with one of those photos in Violet, like the one where she is standing at the entrance of a shed with the flag behind her. She’s totally disappeared which I’ll take as a sign that she might be recording and mixing - I’m pretty hyped that we’re going to have new music very soon tbh

what's there to even talk about? we already discussed songs we want her to cover. there's not much more to talk about. :crossed:

Ok but we don’t really have anything cocc related either and yet that thread is always buzzing. I mean I get it it’s not going to be original material but it’s still pretty exciting we’re going to have a new record new art work and new track list in a few weeks and I feel like people aren’t really bothered.
It’d be so cool if she rearranged the songs into something like Looking For America. ?

the one thing i pray is on this (probably wont be but..) is a cover of Neil Young's 'Heart Of Gold"

I could see her BODYING this song, especially the second verse "I've been to Hollywood, I've been to Redwood, I crossed the ocean for a heart of gold....I've been in my mind, It's such a fine line, that keeps me searching for a heart of gold... and I'm getting old" ...LIKE COME ON WOULDN'T THAT SLAP???

omg this is such a beautiful song - I don't know that it would suit her voice tbh but thanks for reminding me of this work of art - it's on repeat right now

  9. Wow ok I really did have a dream about cocc but it wasn’t Lana’s - it was Charlie’s

man was it awkward I was at Lana’s and Chuck and Charlie were there and they were watching some gay porn vid of someone spitting in someone’s ass h*le (ugh Corona) and Charlie was like that ass is hot and I was like uhm interesting I thought Charlie was a bottom I guess I’ma get knocked up then but then I went over to the kitchen to make some tea and I don’t remember why Lana started going off and bitching at me and I sat down on the floor I was very upset lol then everybody left and I think this was me metabolising cocc’s demise lol whatever has become of me - anyhoo Then Charlie came back and was like Y’know Lanz is like that and I was like the lion the witch and the audacity of this bitch anyway cocc better be worth the stress audacity_cover.jpg

have u finished it yet? i'll admit I got my copy the day after bc I pre-ordered it but tried pacing myself bc of the album. I totally get what you mean by that, there's this strangeness that it brings when ur reading, and the imagery sorta just paints that for you imo. it feels like she describes it as an out of body experience w how she repeats the time. I feel like when I read her poetry there's always a sense of like HM album-ness to it. I didn't really appreciate ringtone as much, and even if Sugarfish was kinda a vibe, it wasn't the strongest I have to agree w some of those moments.

I haven't heard the audio book as much, only went thru it once, and it sorta deflated 1000 Fires a bit for me so I'm just taking it easy with that, bc surprisingly enough I kinda just like reading it w my own inner voice interpretation. it might be a bit harder to hear, but I think her reciting one of the poems came a bit stiff, even if the music tried making up for it.. I forget which one atm..

    I personally liked 2,4, and 5.
2 with the highway image, and imagery, and just how personally I love driving out to places, and how the different parts of day just brings out a new experience.
4 because of how renewing it is, even if it sounds a bit tinged w despair.
5 is a very sad truth, I think w comedians is that they're just a lot more jovial w their observations. there's always that tie yeah..

maybe not at much, it's growing on me, but I loved the grapefruit poem. it's simple enough, but I just love the fruit imagery, and how sugar can mean something else too.

the last haiku, I can understand how you'd say that. especially w her relationship to fame, it's very much a cold one, and I think how that loneliness can just feel so long lasting, just makes it even sadder. it's abrupt too, w how it's short.

I'm gonna have to get back to ya on the little cringe parts, bc as much as I genuinely enjoyed most of the poems, there were just some questionable parts, and yeah the watermelon too, agree definitely hahahahahahahaha.

Yes I have finished it. But I haven't read the poems from the audio book on their own, without the background music. I'll do that and see if they read/feel different.

I did listen to the audio book a lot. For me it just helps with the overall mood and  it makes some cringeworthy moments more bearable ("you don't understand me - I'm a real poem" type of shit brrr)

I just finished the book. and. I wish there was more? I wish there was more.. does anyone wanna discuss it further?

Yep I'd like to discuss the poems. I have actually just received the book.

Among the poems that are not on the audio version, I really enjoyed 'In the hills of Benedict Canyon'. For some reason it's given me big Lynch vibes in the way that it all feels like everything is stuck at 7:27 and she's in some sort of limbo where she's thinking about things and there's this guy talking nonsense and the night time is approaching and the Starline bus is still going around like things are happening around her but it all feels like a dream? - I don't know if that was intentional or she was just trying to kinda take a snapshot of the moment and it ended up being this eerie depiction in a way - I don't know , that was my impression anyway and I really love it.

I also liked Haiku n.2 , which combined with the picture on the next page again gave me this feeling of stillness but also impending doom (she was probably just sitting in her car with her bf and stuck in traffic *the river of red being the tail lights of the other cars* but the shortness of the poem and the deserted road in the picture makes it kinda uncomfortable)

Haiku n.5 (it's a beautiful and sad thought)

Haiku n.10 , which - if you read it without looking at the picture on the next page - makes for quite a grim and lonely thought. But the picture makes it a little less dark and maybe just quiet and lonely.

Starfish is also very cute but the texting and emoji parts are a little cringy.

It just seems like the whole thing was performance art. Lana was being specific enough in her intentions: to want to stand behind a ropped-off area, keeping her fans at a safe distance, while she was wearing a non-approved mask. Safety was obviously a concern.

There are photos where she is standing literally skin to skin with some fans what are you on about?

Maybe we should have took the hint she’s a conspiracy theorist when she called the album CHEMTRAILS over the country club.

Lol that won’t happen...Lana would just blame everyone else. When has she ever apologised and admitted wrong?

Yea but like this time there is no space whatsoever for misunderstanding. The QFTC mess was up to interpretation and it made some points. Of course she could have worded it better but I personally agreed with most of it. This is a whole different level.

I mean when you look at it, she's been a disaster this year.

First she delayed Violet hours before it was supposed to be released.

Then she took a c*p to the Grammys

Then she cancelled a tour 24 hours before it started

Then there was Question for the Culture

Then she showed BLM protesters' faces

Then she started dating a new, very questionable dude

Then she went to Mexico during a pandemic for a birthday party

    Then there was today

And all that was sprinkled with reckless driving and numerous parties throughout rona

    Did I forget anything?

Tbh being from Europe I’m not aware of the current regulations and restrictions in place in LA. Here in Italy we can go out and gather with friends as long as we social distance between different groups of people (of course not everyone is doing that but then again every country has its share of fools, some more than others) . From that perspective the trip to Mexico is no big deal IMO and I don’t want to judge her over her relationship with a cop and I don’t want to get into the whole good cop bad cop debacle. I will go as far as saying it’s still acceptable that she delayed Violet last minute and that she was clueless and posted some photos of BLM protesters faces.
For me what was absolutely trash was cancelling the tour the day before with lots of fans travelling from all over the world (I had totally forgotten about it) and this mesh mask thing. These are not things

done in the heat of the moment, these are decisions. She is really tanking her career being unnecessarily problematic

  14. I hope she wakes up to this shit storm and something clicks in her head.

I've always had doubts about celebrities taking dumb decisions like OK I can understand if a celeb is high on drugs or drunk or something and they smash a hotel room or say something stupid or whatever but when they do something like this I mean where are their agents? Are they too chicken shit and don't want to upset their money-making client so as not to lose their jobs? And what about their doctors? I'm not even going to start with her siblings.

I think she has developed some sort of god complex. This has altogether crushed my expectations for the album, like now I'm like just do whatever you want, I'm not even upset my leg of the tour got cancelled.

And this is especially upsetting because it's socially and culturally relevant. So sorry to be this negative, this shit really got to me.

Part of the reason why I enjoy watching Lana as a person is because she doesn’t conform to industry expectations and ideals and is firm in her own beliefs. It would be really boring for me if she had a social media team and all of her posts were run of the mill. I know that it’s disappointing when she doesn't stick to her word when it comes to release dates etc but at the end of the day I don’t want an album that isn’t done from her or any other artist.  A lot of artists don’t even let you in on the fact that they’re preparing an album.  I think she knows exactly what she’s doing announcing her album titles so early keeping a constant anticipation from listeners who really enjoy her.  She doesn’t actually owe her fans anything, we are all here by choice and it’s depressing seeing people get upset over a popular artist not releasing an album quick enough for them.

If she is tested negative as Chuck said and is showing up wearing a mask she thinks is beautiful then it’s really her prerogative and only putting herself at risk, she is entitled to do so whether it’s a bad look or not.  I think she has made it abundantly clear over the years that when it comes to people having a say on what she does or says- she doesn’t care in the slightest.  She is living for herself.  At times her communication isn’t constructed with any tact but anyone with the brain capacity to extend their thoughts a bit further than the surface can read between the lines and understand what she’s getting at.

You are NOT defending this bs. And no, it’s not her prerogative. While it is true that she tested negative, it is also true that - unless the test had been done literally the minute before AND she hadn’t been around people for at least 4 days prior to the book signing event (which I find questionable) - her being negative is no guarantee that she was not infected and infectious. It takes as many as 4 days for antibodies to show on a swab test or blood test. I am not so much bothered about the gathering if safety measures and social distancing were in place as for the stupid mask. This is so unbelievably ignorant it’s really taking something away from me appreciating her art.

I may be wrong that it’s silicone, but a very thin plastic layer which I seen was invented earlier this year. I’ve seen they are being used by those where people require lip reading.  So likely the mask designer used this material.

Sorry - I know unnecessary video. But go to 2:30 you will see the material it’s very thing and looks like it would be definitely something a fashion designer could use.

The material still looks pretty hard-ish and blurry - I don’t know man, I just don’t know what to think anymore ?

  17. 12 minutes ago, FredRed said:

It is difficult to believe. Maybe she is clueless but no one around her can say that masks aren't accessories that they are for worn  protection? Her doing that in such a high profile manner is just clueless that's all. It's like riding a motorcycle with a bathing cap from the 60's with rubber flowers stuck on. Looks cool until the bike goes down. Another day in LanaLand.

There is just no way that this was not done on purpose. Everyone around her was wearing regular masks. So at this point - as much as it pains me to say - there’s nothing but two options, and neither are a good look. Either she deliberately decided to wear the mesh mask knowing she would get dragged and that would make her trend thus giving more visibility to Violet (but that would be a pretty shitty marketing manoeuvre) OR this is a full blown Napoleon complex.
