FIVE… FOUR…… THREE… TWO.. ONE
-
Yeah, I love the melody as well and her vocals… Wondering if it’s a scrap from The Altar era
-
How come I didn’t know anything about this release?!? The song is amazing woah, one of her best tracks IN YEARS (miles better even than that new single she just released) Banks x SOHN is always a perfect combo
-
The Mean Girls remix using the boiler room vocals… We’ll take it!
-
The So I remix is probably referencing Spliff in My Ear! “Like when we took Bibi down to Bubbles / Took our shoes off, ran around barefoot / Played that song we made that day”
-
I have always dreamt of a remix of “I think about it all the time” made by Aphex Twin and μ-Ziq tbh
-
I think she often did Burn Rubber —> Elegance or Burn Rubber —> Do You Wanna Be Alive? Also pretty sure Elegance into Berlin Nightmare was already a thing Tbh most of her sets did not have a really fixed run except for the first three songs that were usually tmtd -> nybd -> burn rubber and reason why often played as the last song If you wish to have any more info, I recommend checking this website, which has most of her setlists https://www.setlist.fm/setlists/sophie-13dd5df5.html

I think Billie might the only “big” collab she managed to secure last minute, which could also explain why Guess is (presumably) the only deluxe track that got a remix… I still hope the original plans and features for the remix album haven’t been altered too much
-
I actually hope there will be mainly remixes by people who are adjacent to her scene, but with whom she has never or rarely worked… I’m thinking about Doss, Kelly Lee Owens, LSDXOXO, Justice, Snow Strippers: they fit the style of this era and could really expand the sonic universe of the album in an interesting way. A collab with Mr. Oizo and Uffie would make so much sense as well and finally, my absolute wishful thinking would be having THEE BJÖRK on one track! I want cult classics, not best sellers

Yeah the vinyl packaging is a bit underwhelming unfortunately, especially if compared to the one of ooepui, meanwhile the cd packaging is so cute! I love the black CD and the poster

Why Lies and Live in My Truth >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Sunscreen Their instrumentals are 100 times more interesting and give me all of that shimmering and glittering SOPHIE pop euphoria I love

I would not be surprised if she herself had appointed Alex Evans to mix the album and Matt Colton to master it. Since late 2019 I got this feeling she wanted to try something different with sound engineering (the remixes released by her in 2019-2020 have a more similar feeling to how this album sounds like than anything in her solo discog). I also found some the mixing choices very resembling of “It’s Not Just Me” by Let’s Eat Grandma, which makes me wonder whether she wanted her pop record to sound more like that specifically.

Yes, it’s a reference to Suburbia - The Full Horror by Pet Shop Boys!

It’s so sad honestly, I don’t get why they decided to open the album to ratings just because it has been leaked; it feels so disrespectful, also given the context of this release. I would like to add that too many people on rym tend to adjust their ratings to the score they see, so I’m not surprised that it’s bombing because of a bunch of entitled listeners/“””fans”””; I have also seen people rating it like 1 or even 0,5 and I can’t help but wondering if they even cared enough to listen to the album or they just wanted to hate it no matter what. I hope a good (and RESPECTFUL) Fantano review will cause a shift in the opinion of most users on the album.

I hope they did not move up the release because of the leaks

I think the demos she played live were just the first takes of the songs with some live improv as well and that it was never in her mind to keep them that long, but to recontextualize them in the format of an album. Just like a film director who shoots many scenes and then cuts some of them for whatever stylistic/plot purpose reason. Benny himself talked about how she wanted “some parts of the songs to be kept and some others to be removed” or smth like that.

Just because it doesn’t align with the most common and fixed notions of what pop is, it doesn’t mean Sophie didn’t think of it as a pop record. For that matter, Sophie said in an interview that she considers Autechre as pop and electronic music legend Aphex Twin defined his record “Syro” as his pop album (nobody would ever call it that). As for Plunging Asymptote, I have always thought it was a great track; I love the atmosphere, the textures, the sounds, it feels so electric and brings a lot of images to my mind.
-
I don’t think these have ever been actually made; BC Kingdom said that Sophie had an idea for the video of Reason Why, but she never got to do it; as for Sunscreen, there’s those pictures with tz*f and tamta but no indication that they were recording a music video.

The articles/interviews are so beautiful and touching

There’s also another article on the New York Times https://www.nytimes.com/2024/09/20/arts/music/sophie-posthumous-album.html?unlocked_article_code=1.ME4.KhV8.K-UgYYob37ae ”Sophie left behind many more tracks in progress, some of which are likely to emerge as singles or EPs, or appear on other performers’ albums. But as a guardian of Sophie’s catalog, Long has decided that “this is the last Sophie album,” he said. “This is an album that we had worked on for years. We discussed everything about it — the themes, the track list. So to do another album and put it out as a solo album, it would just feel all wrong.”

I am still gagged by the tracklist like… Nina Kraviz?!? Hannah Diamond?!?! The techno songs back to back?? This looks so epic I’m even more hyped now Honestly WHO CARES about some songs we expected not making the cut, we are getting so much unheard stuff it’s unreal
-
It should be Tap ft. Bibi Bourelly
-
Oh yeah it’s definitely a reference, there’s barking dogs in the song and she had that intro she often played before tmtd with some similar sounds
