So this is the only review I was able to find:

    https://www.nylon.com/entertainment/lana-del-reys-text-book-might-address-her-cop-ex-boyfriend

And it doesnt really add anything to the discussion. Then we have F*antano. Did I miss anything?

LA Times mentioned the singles too, but as you can guess, they only really talk about the BLM line in textbook and brought up QftC. Not linking them, cause fuck em

    Summer comes, winter goes

    Spring I skip, God knows

    Summer comes, winter goes

    Spring I sleep, heaven knows

Thinking about this a lot and wanted to write down my thoughts. So her man comes back May, a month where the transition from spring to summer happens. And because that’s when she wakes up. She’s ascends the stairs with her man while painting the banisters = she‘s happy during summer. Then during fall they climb down, the happiness gets less, but as small as it is, it’s there. On the ground again, it’s winter = depression. So with spring you‘d think, she‘ll start to feel better, but when we remember one of her best unreleased songs Living Legend, where she admits:

    Quote

I never meant to be bad or unwell
I was just living on the edge

    Right between Heaven and Hell
    And I'm tired of it

So when she‘s between happiness and depression, she‘s in a way literally sleeping = skipping spring.

edit: Yosemite came on and the first verse says the same thing, that nothing changes for her in those months inbetween:

    Quote

Seasons may change, but we won't change
Isn't it sweet how we know that already?
Winter to spring, spring back to fall
Isn't it cool how nothing here changes at all

    Spoiler

    wjwSMqI.gif

And why does God and heaven know, she's skipping/sleeping on spring? Cause she's not up there = not happy, not on the banisters => closer to God/heaven

Now this leaves the question: where the hell is her man? Does this mean, he leaves her during her dark times, but comes back to paint over the withered/blistered paint? And also to repair her weather vain, which could mean, there was a horrible storm, that broke it in the first place = they fought maybe? Or does he repair it, so she doesn’t lose her direction (because wind is an indicator of direction)?
So many layers, I‘m gonna cry again lmao wjwSMqI.gif

Cos nobody would know who "Nikki" was and the purpose was probably to name drop her in the truest sense of the word

But noooo everyone thinks Lana is above cheapening her work and mentioning someone in a song for that person's benefit

I'm logging off because this post will definitely cause a fight

    :bye2:

ngl it does feel like some product placement comapred to Jenny, Chucky, Jake, etc. :rip:

edit: crackhead conspiracy theory: for Lana to get BUS, she had to give Nikki some coins + a moment to shine and this is it :monicker:

Wow Ben is defending Dua publicly for just 1 article.

Lmao . Where was he when Lana was being trashed all over the world???

She should just quit and find better managers. Even though I know she is super comfortable with them and really close buddies.

The „For just 1 article“ in question:

I think, it would be absolutely fucked up to not defend her??
Lana brought it on herself with QftC: she choose to publish it the way she did, please. :wtfney:
You can’t really compare these situations … jesus

As I said, when you interpret the song, yes they are both about her. But the personification of her narcissism/depression in literary practice makes the two separate entities within the song.

Oh lol I think, I just got your point now, thanks for clearing it up! You’re right about it

  6. 10 minutes ago, War In My Mind said:

To be fair in that second quote, she's personifying the narcissist that's "on (her) back" so while the narcissist may indeed be her, in the song, it is two separate entities.

I get your point, however the way she calls the black narcissist also with the pronoun she in the next line makes it kinda obvious, that she is talking about her (depressed) self- the third line is basically the same thing she does in TB: she and I, but both are about her

  7. 10 minutes ago, Vertimus said:

Is the woman she refers to in TB, ‘then there was the issue of her’ a reference, another reference, to her mother? Or another woman the cop was also seeing?

This was already answered, but I‘d just like to add, that this could be a reference to HIADTFAWLMTH-BIHI:

    Quote

Shaking my ass is the only thing that‘s

Got this black narcissist off my back

She couldn’t care less, and I never cared more

She talks about herself in third person here too

  8. Went back to Violet and listened to „Bare Feet on Linoleum“, because I remember there was something about her mother too. It’s unbelievably unsettling, if you use the poem as an intro to WW :paris:

    especially:

    Spoiler

Don't take all your secrets alone to your watery grave about
    lovers and -

The secrets you keep will keep you in deep like Amy and -
    And brother

And all of the people you meet on the street will reiterate lies

    that they uttered

    […]
But alas this is a real life - and it's been a real fight just to
stop my mind from committing treason
    Why you ask?
Because she told the townspeople I was crazy, and the lies, they
    started to believe them

But anyways - that's all over now
I've moved on, gone scorched earth
And now I'm left wondering where to go from here

She scorched the earth with these singles for sure and spilled some secrets, like she said she would above :rip:

Ever since she released NFR her albums and her poetry have been heavily intertwined, more so than ever.

The way you could tell me anything because I have no clue and I‘m not a car person. But some people on reddit said this is a thunderbird :mj:

  10. good 4 u, brutal and jealousy, jealousy are great, but I'm really not fan of her ??????? singing in the rest of the album. She really should expand on that punk-pop style, it suits her better than the ballads imo

absolutely cannot believe i'm about to defend these god awful single artworks / covers BUT.... little theory incoming :hooker:....

does anyone else feel like maybe the artworks intentionally progress in rawness and 'ugliness' according to how revealing the songs they belong to are? for example, Blue Banisters is def a personal song but it's fairly "happy" with a sweet message. i remember when we all speculated whether or not the bruised look on her chest was intentional, i for one just thought it was a symptom of the filter she was using - but now, with the other artworks there, i can see it's intentional. still, it's not overly obvious, her face looks pretty and "normal", that kinda thing.

then we have Wildflower Wildfire: there are intensely obvious bruises on her chest and neck area, her face is distorted in a subtle uncanny valley type way. similarly the lyrics of the song take on a slightly darker theme and they're more revealing than the lyrics of Blue Banisters.

finally, Text Book is the most revealing and arguably upsetting song of all, and with it comes an artwork with amped up darkness and ugliness - her face is more distorted, her bruises are darker and more numerous.

it's giving a lil bit of FKA Twigs x Jesse Kanda vibes:
