It's not old news, at least not to me. I've thought about it a lot, too!! I hope it comes out somewhere... -

Anyone know what became of the apparent professional recording that was being done for the October 18 (Saturday) show at Hollywood Forever? Has anyone heard or seen anything? -

I'm happy about this! The St. Vincent picture in the Time article reminds me of the video for "Born To Die." -
Ahh, OK, you win then. Agreed! I've only been a fan of hers since last May. And that was due to being a fan of Lorde, of whom I've been a fan since April. She's also what you might call an "old soul." (Side note: Interesting that there is a lot of hate for Lorde around this forum, when both her demographic and Lana's are the same.) So far, I've only seen Lana live once, and that was in October at Hollywood Forever. But I've watched a lot of YouTube videos of her concerts, and I came to appreciate her appeal. I love the way she sings, I love how she doesn't use sex to sell herself (thought she's damned gorgeous), and I love the sound of her songs, especially the BTD/Paradise era. Like you, I'm glad to see I'm not the only older guy here. Also, I misinterpreted a prior reply -- I thought it was @@buster saying he was 42 in January, but it was @@SouthInGuy. That's what happens when I read the messages on my phone.

LOL, guess I'll have to change my title then... Didn't think I'd find anyone else here in their 40s. My wife is a few years older than I am, and when we were at the Hollywood Forever concert, she told me she went to the restroom and some security guard made a wisecrack about her being "a bit too old for this crowd," or something like that. Kinda ticked her off.

Right with ya there, Irene! I really wanted the chance to try to meet her, so the Silver VIP was totally worth it to me. The last (and first) show I saw her at, the one at Hollywood Forever was all general admission. That venue has no seats; it's all grass. I don't think they had VIP packages there, either, so there was no early entrance. We took our chances, but didn't get anywhere near front and center. I figure by getting the Silver VIP, I'm at least increasing my chances. That's probably how I'll feel after next May, especially if I get to greet her. I'll have had the experience, so next time around, I'll go for regular seats. Same here. Since we drove 3 hours to LA the last time we saw her, and my wife was not up for getting there early, we ended up arriving around 4:30 for the gates to open at 6 PM. We were pretty far back in the line, and when the gates opened, all hell broke loose. Like you, I want the opportunity to have the front row experience once, and then after that, I think I'd be fine with normal seats. I guess with the VIP tickets, it becomes a matter of who has the money to spend and wants to spend it, more than who gets there super early. But we don't know how many Silver VIP tickets were sold, either, so there's a chance that non-VIP ticketholders will still get front row pit spots. Just too many variables! What makes you uncomfortable about the concept? Just curious. There are often times when you pay to meet someone... I guess it's just a matter of whether or not it's worth it to you.

I tried, but every time I clicked the green heart, it just showed me a video clip of the show; didn't increase the "like" count. (P.S. Yes, I changed my username.) -
To each their own, I suppose. And as far as the pit goes, once you're in your spot, I guess you just have to stand your ground. If I get to the front row, I'm gonna hold onto the barricade and not let go! I'm hoping for a picture with her, but I'll take whatever I can get! I figure it's worth it one time to at least make the attempt. I hear ya, but I'm gonna do my best to get front row. 6 AM? Now that's dedication! Did you have a VIP ticket, or regular GA? Yeah, that's what I'm going for -- the experience. I'll make the best of it, whatever happens.

Having listened to both songs several times now, I find myself flip-flopping on my prior opinion. I had liked "I Can Fly" better; now I like "Big Eyes" better. But the sampled/synthesized trumpets in "Big Eyes" really cracks me up. I mean, if Dan Heath could use live strings, couldn't he get a couple of live trumpet players, too??

Resurrecting this old topic... I liked how Lana's voice sounded in "Is This Happiness," but having listed to "Big Eyes" and "I Can Fly" a few times now, I find her vibrato even better in "Big Eyes." Two particular spots where it really stands out are both in the second half of the first verse. At 1:15, she hits a fairly high note with the words "trust you," and that one sounds just gorgeous! Then followed by "I was your woman," where on the last syllable of "woman," she sounds really beautiful again. Those two spots give me chills every time I hear them.

The code wasn't required for the VIP packages. If you enter the code, you get regular ticket options.

I got my Silver VIPs, yay!!! $250 US as well. When you enter the Facebook presale code, though, that's just for regular tickets, not VIP, so that didn't do any good anyway. I just chose the Silver VIP and off I went! I couldn't buy 3 at once, though; I had to buy 1, then go back and buy another, and then my 3rd.

Whew! It was a nailbiter, but I am now the proud owner of 3 Silver VIP tickets to the Chula Vista show! I say it was a nailbiter because when I came in to work this morning, I learned that our district (I work the IT department in a school district) was under some sort of DDoS attack, and we effectively have no internet access. Aside from our regular internet connection, we have 2 cable modems that we use for testing purposes. I connected to the wireless router that's hooked up to one of the cable modems... nothing! Turns out the cable modem was bad, so I quickly hooked up the router to the other modem, and then had to reboot the modem. All this happened with less than 5 minutes before the presale started. I finally got connected, and tried to buy 3 tickets and was told they weren't available. Then I tried buying 1, and got one. So I went back twice more and bought 1 ticket each time, but using a different credit card each time. Wow... the things we do.

Wait, your times say EST? When I pull up the page, it says PST. Maybe I'd better check at 7 AM PST...??
-
If you get a GA Pit ticket, your chances of getting first row depend on when you get there. Also, if you get the Silver VIP package, you get early admission, which increases your chances.
-
When you get to Ticketmaster, if you click on the link to buy tickets, it redirects you to Livenation. At least that's what it was doing for me earlier; haven't tried it in the last few hours.

At Hollywood Forever, even though it wasn't a real "pit," the people at the front were pretty well-behaved. I'm thinking the Seattle experience was the exception rather than the rule. I looked at the VIP packages again just now. Looks to me like Silver VIP is the way to go if you want to be in the pit. You get a GA Pit ticket AND early entrance! Even though I never went to grad school, I'm soooo glad those days are behind me!! (I graduated college with my bachelor's in 1998.)
