  1. !!!! what the fuck. evermore and folklore have drastically different themes, so do COCC and Blue Banisters. COCC is like Lana at her happiest and leaving her beloved LA for freedom and friendship, and Blue Banisters is like a reflective record both musically and thematically from what we heard so far.
  2. buzzed on some wine and listening to lana so here's thots on her discography and how it works in trilogies: LANA IN HER QUEST FOR IDENTITY THROUGH ARCHETYPES/STORIES BTD/PARADISE - intro to lana del rey as an archetype, persona, etc. pop culture imagery, drugs, toxic love, grandiose aesthetics + hip hop influence. ULTRAVIOLENCE - same themes but make it dark, dramatic, and add some rock. an absolute fave to many fans, the beloved icon. it's her image + taste incapsulated and refined to the extreme. HONEYMOON - expand on the grandiose imagery of BTD/PARADISE, more orchestra, dreamy + haunting. less rock or hip hop inspired. very sad but not as hot as UV. terribly underrated and misunderstood. LANA QUESTIONS HER IDENTITY/PURPOSE LUST FOR LIFE - transitional album / mixed bag bc of that fact. lana explores her persona and in fact begins to break away from her previous image created in the BTD/UV/HONEYMOON eras. trap inspired but also influenced by her typical aesthetics. she starts to deconstruct the men she has sung about; they are no longer James Dean, nor cult leaders, nor gangsters. lana herself is also no longer content with the image she has projected and wishes to shift in a happier direction. LANA IN HER QUEST FOR PERSONAL FULFILLMENT AND HAPPINESS NFR! - the opening lines are literally: "goddamn man child"; her lover is no longer a mythological figure or the center of her religion. the album is stripped down, beach inspired and contains more vulnerable lyricism than previous eras (HIADT...). its a new era for Lana and yet she still mourns openly, albeit now under sunny, California skies. instant classic but many fans suffer whiplash from the change in her content/delivery. COTCC - much like UV condensed BTD/PARADISE, COTCC condenses the feeling and sound of NFR! as its even more stripped down and goes a bit country/folk at the times. lana no longer cares about being the voice of the culture, she wants to disappear into the wild and find her own love; whether its family or friends or actual lovers. ironically bc its the happiest of her albums, its also the one the often feels underwhelming to fans. BB - lana returns to the stories of the BTD/UV/HONEYMOON era albeit now with maturity and a more holistic understanding of life. her lyricism is more complex and personal than ever. the sound carries on the piano and slow ballad that have defined the NFR/COTCC era but now with more experimentation and a new batch of collaborators. she is mixing the old with the new and trying to find a happy medium. more thots on this once it comes out. I think BB is the end of the "Lana looking for happiness era", or her finding her medium. I feel her next batch of work will have an entirely different flavor. (also i see violet as part of the NFR/COTCC/BB era)
  3. Same. Honestly possibly her best opening track after White Dress ofc.
  4. not the TJF, Cinnamon, and Cherry slander. You guys need to stay close to Jesus (ok maybe I’ll allow Cherry but when Lana says bitch )
  5. Okay I’m re-listening to Text Book as the now official opening track and while it’s no White Dress but it does set the tone for the album. I’m particularly obsessing on the line “let’s rewrite history”, I think Lana is heavily telling her story with this album, like it’s deeply biographical even more than previous albums. So in a sense she’s rewriting her own history?
  6. I’m claiming Interlude, Black Bathing Suit, and Violets for Roses. does anyone else feels this album is gonna be Honeymoon meets COTCC? like stripped down musically but very lush visuals and aesthetics?
  7. Dealer seems to be an outtake from COTCC so it’s probably written with Jack Antonoff
  8. I think rock candy sweet is just a lyric from one of the new songs. I can’t remember where we got this info on the thread, but I remember seeing it.
  9. happy birthday to “the greatest”! Lana’s best album?
  10. HONESTLY TEXT BOOK MAKES SO MUCH SENSE WITH THAT COVER. The new cover truly captures all the vibes of the singles.
  11. JOKE???? no, ur brain!!!! Actually I remember her saying in an interview she didn’t want to be alone on the cover anymore so I think there’s some psyche change happening there for sure.
  12. Lana's cover storyline: NFR! features her with a man(child) COTCC features her with friends and family BB features her with animals she's no longer alone but also where do we go next from here?
  13. Controversial but here it goes: 1. NFR! 2. Honeymoon 3. Chemtrails 4. Born to Die 5. Lust for Life 6. Ultraviolence 7. Paradise i think Ultraviolence is more put together than Lust for Life and is objectively a better album, but some of the songs on Lust for Life are some of my favorites ever. Get Free, Cherry, Change, Heroin, etc just pack a big punch.
  14. So first listen of the album! so while I didn’t hate l + f, but I did feel it was subpar. This follow up is stronger lyrically and I do agree with others that it’s more in tune with Froot but with some musical elements of l + f. I, however, feel the political songs are just ugh not bad but not good? They’re at best punchy and listenable but pale compared to the ballads and more personal stories? I wish she would mix the political with the personal as she did in Family Jewels or even Froot where you have thoughtful songs like Savages and Immortal closing the record. Here you are thrust in the political and while Marina inserts herself, she is barely there. The first four songs are all political and not enough of Marina’s psyche. And while I love bops like the opening track, it lacks her characteristic depth. Pandora’s Box finally shifts the tone into all personal songs and ballads. (Highly Emotional People is there but is followed by very cringey New America). Then you have some beautiful pieces: ILYBILMM, Flowers, and Goodbye. All these tracks remind of the lyrical depth of Froot with some musical elements of L + F. Flowers is my absolute favorite. Now I think politics are very important to Marina as an artist now and but this album is at her most heaviest. So much so that I think it obscures the relatability or the encapsulation of a particular moment in time. I think politics work best at the background of a song, the best political commentary in music are often tongue in cheek and often never ouvert. I think her political songs are catchy but suffer from being openly political. Finally, I find the placement of the songs really not good? They don’t flow. L + F can take a lot of criticism but at least each part told a cohesive story or theme. The opening to Ancient Dreams is super political with closing love ballads and no real bridge to connect the two ideas. Maybe if the political ideas where mentioned in the love songs and vice versa, there would be a cohesive story??? i do think this album is better than l + f but I feel this album is less listenable? Like I can play l + f in the background and vibe, but I can only come back to certain songs in this album. anyway this is an accidental review but I’m very mixed on the album, overall the overly political songs are not it and not really interested in this road Marina is going (if she keeps the political music going on). Musically I love the direction but I wish the themes remained more soaked in the personal.
  15. Lana’s new singles are also very slow. I honestly don’t think it’s Jack. He can do upbeat stuff (his new upcoming record), perhaps Lorde and Lana are simply moving into a slower, stripped down sound and it’s the fan resistance to keep them sounding as they did an album or two albums ago. a producer can influence an artist’s sound but not completely define it.
  16. besties don’t cancel me but I miss Jack’s production. I like WW and love Text Book, but my Spotify keeps playing COTCC after the singles and I like it soooo much more sonically and also the production is cleaner. Lyrically I will say the new tracks are good, but nothing stands out to me besides the themes.
  17. I kinda agree about meh for those (I like ww but bb is def meh) Not sure about text book (it’s my fave), I can see him saying it’s bad or it’s great, I can never tell.
  18. TEXT BOOK > WILDFLOWER WILDFIRE > BLUE BANNISTERS (WW is Wild at Heart grown up and sultry)
  19. ok besties this is a mess but what do you guys think: a.) American standards and classics album b.) another country album à la Nikki Lane c.) actual new music/album d.) I’m just so tired e.) none of the above and d im personally d
  20. I need clarity! Are we all just clowning or do we truly believe in RCS June 2021????
  21. speaking of Norman, I wasn't on Lanaboards when that one came out. Could someone tell me whether Chemtrails has been received better by the fans than NFR! or worse or about the same? I know both albums have critical praise but I'm interested in the fan reception.
  22. HONEYMOON AND NORMAN SUPREMACY (chemtrails might be my third fave of hers, idk im still sitting with it)
  23. After September 5th and December 25th, there’s no way
