Though the title would go on to inspire many jokes about its lengthiness, Did You Know That There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd is a massive creative triumph for one Elizabeth Grant. She and superproducer Jack Antonoff hit their stride as partners on this Grammy AOTY-nominated project, with the alt-pop titan mustering some of her most vulnerable and thoughtful lyrics ever while somehow managing to maintain her trademark campiness throughout (see: that perplexing four-minute spoken interlude from pastor Judah Smith). While her earlier work gives way to more dramatic proclamations and aesthetics, Ocean Blvd takes a softer, more introspective approach to Lana’s longtime muse — Americana — that’s achingly feminine, full of yearning, and underscored by clever references to male figureheads such as Leonard Cohen, John Denver and Bob Dylan.

What a weird review blurb this is from Billboard lmfao tell me you didn't understand the album at all without telling me you didn't understand the album at all... Judah Smith interlude being her trademark campiness like WHAT

yeah cuz like where is the bob dylan reference? (forgive me if i missed it lol)

  2. i feel like when she said things would be simpler she meant with the subject matter. the last two albums featured some of her most personal songs to date and she had never explored some of the topics on ocean before - maybe slight teases on blue banisters. this album was monumental for many reasons and one of them was the story it told. i'm so proud of her like this was the closest she could challenge norman and I KNOW she has it in her to decimate nfr! :flutter:

about the standards... well lana does have her own standards but yeah guess we might be getting the covers album after all

The way several songs on the physical copies are different than on streaming. Nice to meet you is solo, Bury me has an entire Kelela verse at the start and Feelings is a demo. I wish she kept the extra Kelela verse for streaming tbh I rlly like the back and forth on that version

could you link some? i'd kill for more kelela

Sounds like you were shipping it to another country, then you’re the one who has to pay customs. Not sure how it works in every country but in my case I either get notified by customs once they have it or I pay it at the post office when I pick it up. If I don’t pay it within a month or so then it gets sent back to the seller.

i was never notified but... i took care of the whole thing

Tbh i think there are def Max Martin vault tracks she chose not to release bc they don’t seem to have a working relationship anymore. These are probably the 3 vault tracks that she and Jack worked on + the Diane Warren song.

i mean if there were more max tracks i don't see why she wouldn't add them if she let rowe produce most of the og tracks. i feel like the only rejects were the ones that made it into the deluxe version (wonderland, new romantics)

I'm honestly thinking she probably recorded 1989 TV sometime in early 2021, and it inspired Midnights (and not the other way around like we originally thought). I doubt the production is anything like the demos, though (compare the OG Forever Winter to the Red TV version).

that's what i was thinking too but like... why would she do that :toofloppy:

i honestly wanna know if they were always meant to be this chilled out and not as poppy as the other jack tracks
