Look. It's Lana. The last time she really cared about charts was probably Lust for Life - undoubtedly her most commercially-minded album since Born to Die. And I'm not here judging the way she looked or saying she's now suddenly striving to be the new Ariana f-ing Grande. But she IS clearly minds away from the recycling old tracks and first-take mindset sonically (Blue Banisters) and she is releasing singles that are not piano ballads. Say what you want about AW, but it's not a ballad. Looks wise, did you see that Billboard shoot?! She was sexy, she was glam, she's showing leg. Guys, she's making an effort. Come on, that's all I'm saying.

I'm just saying she obviously cares about the perception of her and success more than she did last year. Last year, she did not give a fuck.

Well, compared to Blue Banisters, Arcadia and White Dress, AW is a fucking banger of the century! So, yeah, she is definitely moving in a more chart-friendly direction. The second half of AW is her most commerical sound literally since Doin' Time.

Haha. Fair point! But, gain, Grandfather and AW refer to family and they're both great. It's different when Jack helps write and produce the tracks than Drew. So, I might just be fine with Chuck's baby in the songs, etc.

I prefer the world building and different narratives. Don't really care listening to songs about Chuck or Lana's dad.

Omg, that's the perfect description. A mixtape of unreleased tracks and half-baked Drew Erickson drivel. I think she should have titled it a Mixtape. It's the only LDR record I genuinely disliked.

It's normal - people get tired of every song and move on easily nowadays. Unless it's something poppy like "As it Was" by Harry Styles. A dark moody 7 minute song isn't gonna stay on repeat forever.

I kinda disagree with that. Lust for Life and Born to Die had very little piano. Maybe just on Video Games, really? So, for me, a song like Sweet would stick like a store thumb on those. I can't imagine it on Chemtrails either because it was so folksy and acoustic guitar-centric. Really, it's off the same Blue Banisters cloth. But anyway, no need to debate it. Like someone said, an album should be diverse as long as it's cohesive thematically. Obvoiusly, a song like Doin' Time or Off to the Races wouldn't fit on Ocean Boulevard. What's on there so far makes sense. Disneyes meets trap is the vibe I'm getting lol.

Actually, I liked Chemtrails a lot. Only felt it was a bit half-baked (like, the lyrics on Yosemite, lackluster Breaking Up Slowly, the basic cover of For Free). I'd give it a strong 7, and I listened to it often. In my view, Antonoff introduced a lot of folky and piano elements to Lana music, and made the music "classic" (as much as I also like Ultra, BTD, LFL, etc). So, I know I WILL BE HAPPY with most of Ocean because Antonoff is behind it. And I don't mind piano ballads (look at my profile pic) - I just don't like boring piano ballads. Which is what I think Drew Erickson brings to the table. That said, he has improved from his work on BB.

That actually makes a lotta sense. The cover definitely reflects that. She was roaming around before exploring different characters and narratives that she wasn't exactly at home with. Or she was running away from herself with the trucks and the boat, with her friends, on her balcony. Now she's full-on in the thick of it in her bedroom, facing herself and her family, etc. And it's refleceted in the sound as well - her two favorite genres are there basically - piano balladry and trap/hip-hop vibes. Very "close to home'

Sure, no worries at all. We're just having a chat I think you missed the 50 posts about how amazing Grandfather is, how much I love the Taco snippet, and Ocean Boulevard. Honestly, if I sound negative it's because I've been looking forward to this album a lot and for a long time (as I disliked BB a lot, so basically haven't had new Lana music since Chemtrails). Also, I have a bone to pick with her BB producers - I think theyr're a stepdown from Nowels, Antonoff, Hayne, etc. So, I will probably be ranting about their production. Just ignore it.

I do think Candy Necklace will be one of the bigger tracks, maybe even a single. 1. It's placement on the tracklist. 2. The fact it's got John Baptiste on it. 3. That Lana teased it on social (and only that song. 4. I also reckon that with so many collabs, one of the singles must be a collab. (Like Lust for Life was off Lust for Life). 5. feel like it's going to be an upbeat track (because the other John Baptiste track is pretty moody, they can't both be), which is great for a single. Especially the album announcement single (following two pretty dark and moody singles).

In that Eillish interview, she mentioned the "biggest shoot she's ever been on". I have a sneaky suspicion that Interscope has put some money into an MV for a track that's a banger. Maybe it's for Peppers or one of the other tracks. But, knowing Lana, she could also spend a million dollars on Sweet just because she personally likes the melody. Either way, the last LDR video with a 100 million views was Doin' Time. They must have realized MVs for ballads just don't work nowadays. At least, I hope they did. Hopefully, Lana gives us one smoking hot video this year. My guess: March 24th to really announce the album with a bang. And she'll post it on that Ocean Blvd account. You heard it here first!
