COCC and NFR! are amazing, but could have been perfect if they weren't ruined by one or two small details (TNBAR should have been scrapped or released on LFL as Architecture, Thunder should've been reworked to be in its place instead/ For Free abrupt ending and kinda bipolar mixing)

The For Free ending is the one detail which prevents COCC from achieving perfection for me. To give Weyes the final word on an album that begins with White Dress is an UNFORGIVABLE sin. I suppose one could argue that Lana gradually vanishing towards the end of the album getting buried by the features is the point, like she's retreating from the spotlight etc, but that feels like a reach after the fact.

For the 2024 deluxe reissue, she HAS TO tack on one more verse at the end, Lana solo. She must conclude her own story. She can just repeat the opening line of the song, all quiet, whispery and lethal. It would devastate.

When one of Madonna's old albums leaked every track was just her saying "what the fuck do you think you're doing" or something similar. I don't know if it counts as misdirect but they were aware :thumb2:

BOZ has to do it (leaking info) in a way that he knows he won't face legal consequences cause he's pretty known in music forums and his face is out there so it's not like he's some kind of mysterious anonymous insider. I don't know at what stage he gets stuff but he knows a lot (from actual songs to tracklists and every change in an album process. He even knows when directors are contacted for a MV)

Oh yes that's an amazing example! It sounds so mean spirited now - playing on your emotions only to punish you for taking the bait. Kinda on brand for M lol.

I feel like a misdirect in these times would have the goal of getting fans excited and building hype, planting clues, in the spirit of fun mischief (and to eventually make that sale). So in a hypothetical if Boz were to say "hey I heard Yes To Heaven is the opening track maybe" and it spawns a 3-week meltdown across the fandom, then mission accomplished. Then he can come back and say, "hey guys she cut it maybe" and then another 3 week meltdown. Costs them nothing and we're left frothing to buy 6 vinyls.

So, is Boz some kind of baddie p.r. genius? (or, employed by one? :creepna3:)

Sometimes I wonder what if BOZ is lying to us or Lana's team managed a way to keep info secured or leak fake stuff to mislead insiders?

It would be so fun if the tracklist comes and it's nothing similar to what we expect.

Imagine Lana doing 50 different tracklists with each one having random unreleaseds to fuck with people :thumb3:

(I know he's reliable and probably right tho)

I've wondered about this too. Boz is almost certainly some form of executive assistant/jr. a&r type, either at Interscope, CAA, or TAP. His info is not something that someone on the tech or recording studio level would see - ie his post in the last few days that he heard a call had been put out for director proposals for a new BB music video at some point. That's label, management, or agent level.

Interscope and CAA are relatively massive - so lots of possibilities to have access to whatever's going on in the next cubicle so to speak. But, the tracklist of a major star's new album is basically trade secrets. Everyone who works in those environments would face major legal trouble if they were caught. With as frequently as Boz spills, this strikes me as way too risky. You definitely don't want CAA's legal department on you for leaking.

Something like an evolving tracklist sounds more like management company stuff. That's something that would be discussed by people involved in the creative direction of the album and her managers. They would be hearing about the whims of the artist on a daily basis, in a way that the label or agency would not (CAA agency is just negotiating the deals). Perhaps tracklists are sent out for physical production and he is intercepting it there, but he seems clued in way before anything goes to the printing press. It's possible he is involved in filing copyright stuff or interacting with streaming platforms, but the info he has throughout the process again makes me think he gets it way before anything is legally registered.

So that really narrows it down to the management team and people directly adjacent to them.

Ben's company is tiny - google says 16 employees. So if Boz works there, 100% they know he is leaking info. ATRL is hardly low pro, the info is just too specific, and there aren't that many people in the loop. In that case I'd say yeah they are def telling him what it's ok to say. He'd be fired and sued if they weren't cool with it.

I don't get "sophisticated covert ops" vibes from these people, so an intentional misdirection seems unlikely, but not impossible. Has there ever been a good example of a "misdirect" leak in the past?

Sorry for the essay, but the people need to get to the bottom of this!!

  4. Thinking about which of the contenders we know about have the most devastatingly iconic opening line to be track #1 and open the album...

There's a picture on the wall of me on a John Deere

Here's the deal, cause I know you wanna talk about it

I guess you could call it text book

My body is a map of LA

What you don't tell no one, you can tell me

You roll like thunder when you come crashing in

I go back to Alabama, take a look at my life

Is the sun in your eyes, easy rider?

I wore diamonds for the birth of your baby, for the birth of your son, on the same day my husband to be packed his things to run

Blackbirds will sing in the same key as you play in the shoes that I bought you

If you dance I'll dance, and if you don't I'll dance anyway

Hit the street, city beat, I know what you want

Don't be that way, don't you pretend, you're not awake, when you know you are

Lilacs in my mind all the time are blooming beautifully

    I, I can fly

    ???????????????????????????????? LFL demo is better.

im going to fix this for you.

LFL demo vs A Star For nick* (Ofc LFL demo is better)

    so

    LFL demo vs COCC

PSB is a perfect magical little thing, and L4L demo for me has more of a "haunted by things that might've been but were never meant to be" connection. Sometimes I just want to lay on the grass and be happy

  6. Absolutely haunting and beautiful. At times it feels like a 10-minute highly choreographed tracking shot from a movie, other times as raw and random as can be. Somehow it captures the song completely.

I love the little ambient splashes, the slight echo when she is singing along to the track, the guy at the end, that bare little hint of a hope smile at gunpoint after the last verse, my god.
