I’m more and more convinced this album hasn’t leaked solely because of Candy Necklace, which we already know was a last minute addition that replaced another track. Eclipse hasn’t heard it, Floridakilos hasn’t heard it, Brightsun hasn’t heard it and I’m pretty convinced not even BOZ or Kintsugi have heard it. When asked about it, all of them either dodged/ignored the questions or spoke about it very vaguely: Kintsugi called it “massive” which doesn’t necessarily translate to anything because for instance I think NFR (title track) is a massive track to me and a lot of you would disagree on that - it’s just a very vague and subjective term to use; on the other hand Floridakilos called it “euphonious” which literally means “pleasing to listen to” which is even more vague and (no offense babe!) pointless because characterizing a Lana song as pleasing in a forum dedicated to Lana barely registers as an insider opinion. I don’t think BOZ even shared his personal opinion on that song other than some drama attached to it which I’ll assume is because of the last minute addition and maybe because it possibly replaced another song that BOZ found better or which existence we already knew? The absence of Candy Necklace in every insider’s top 5 is also very telling that no one has it/has heard it. Leaking albums can be considered very lame by some but leaking an album with a song missing would probably be considered lame by most haha. I truly believe that’s what’s keeping people from going ahead and leaking the album. None of you has Candy Necklace in your possession otherwise you wouldn’t have resisted the urge to speak about it more than just categorizing it as “massive” or “euphonious”. Cunty Necklace just happens to be that bitch.

Great points all around. I definitely think critics will be less tepid this time (as compared to the reception Chemtrails and Blue Banisters got) because this album definitely feels bold, risky and passionate - it also seems to combine the maturity of her post-NFR work with the bite of her pre-NFR work which is a win-win situation because critics are now really fond of her and there’s been a willingness to reassess her entire discography with a fresh new look and recognize her greatness as something she’s displayed all along. So I think that bodes well for her ultimately. The thing is: NFR was a wake-up call for a lot of people outside of the fandom to realize she was truly one of the best artists in the game and that realization came for an album that was seen and perceived as an instant modern classic: not confrontational or challenging enough to alienate audiences but with enough personality and uniqueness to set her apart from everyone else. That kind of sets the bar and the tone when it comes to people outside of the fandom so for an alternative artist like Lana who does little to no promotion, has no music videos for the era and is about to release her longest album to date, full of complex and really dense songs about heavy topics, I think it’ll take a lot of factors for her to get to a place where the basics of the recording academy to recognize her.

I hope we’re wrong at the end! Even if I don’t take value in the Grammys as a barometer of quality these days, it would be awesome to see Lana nominated for the big ones again to see her being vindicated. I hope all this love she’s being receiving from the likes of Eilish, Rodrigo, Rosalía, SZA, Kim Petras, Madison Beer, etc translates into goodwill and recognition. She’s truly the closest we have to Kate Bush/Tori Amos/Fiona Apple for the millennials and Gen-Zers.

I highly doubt this album will be nominated for AOTY at the Grammys - she’d need a widespread acclaim and support like she got for Norman and although she’s in a good position to achieve that, we also know Ocean is far more abrasive and challenging as a record than NFR was (no shade to Norman, that’s still one of my favorite albums ever) and I’m afraid some critics won’t fully support the album even if they moderately respect/appreciate it. I’m trying to stay positive but I really feel like NFR was her Grammys moment and I don’t see that replicating that easily (which is probably a good thing for her because fuck the Scammies).
