A&W is what precedes disorienting phase of the record that contains the interludes and Candy Necklace - the American Whore segment is congruent with the sonority of the first 3 tracks (stripped back, sweeping instrumentation) even though it’s grungier and with a darker allure; on the other hand the Jimmy segment is dirty, messy (in a good way) and chaotic. I think it makes narrative sense for A&W to be placed as it is, going by everything we know/have heard so far about the album. Plus, I think it’s a cute throwback to NFR having an almost 10 minutes track as the third song of the record. Fingertips belongs in a sequence of the album where she’s delving into the depths of her past and memory: sparse instrumentals to kind of force the listeners to pay attention to what might very well be darkest lyrics of her career so far. From there she goes into a more lighter tone where she seems to be navigating her thoughts in a way that feels more gentle (Paris, Texas + Grandfather + Let The Light In, Margaret, etc) before entering her signing off bang bang kiss kiss with the last three tracks, racing freely out of the black, into the blue. The tracklist feels incredibly deliberate this time. Or maybe I have no idea what I’m talking about

It’s criminal that the B&W picture is an outtake. Could’ve been the actual cover (although I love the one they used for that).

Damn, thank you. I can assure you I know my angles first and foremost. But appreciate the compliment. Your username being centered around one of NFR’s best tracks is just as hot. —— Now that I’ve listened to the Kali and Miley records, my excitement and appreciation for Lana’s artistry and overall existence skyrocketed even higher. I think it’s “easier” (for the lack of a better word) to make pop music that is generically written in a way that the GP will resonate with and relate to - specially if it’s all laced with a production that captures all of the current trends (in Miley’s case). No disrespect to Kali or Miley as both albums are pretty good (Kali’s specially) but the fact that we’re about to get a 77 minutes long abrasive, complex and dense body of work that will tackle pretty dark subjects and defiantly aim for different sonorities and genres all clashing together in the service of a pretty unique and singular vision and storytelling truly makes Lana stand out even more than usual. She’s truly on a lane of her own.

Handstand is so obviously Lana that it hurts - but I enjoy seeing our girl still has several pulses on the culture, as she would say!

This album’s good. A few clunkers here and there and I’m generally not a huge Miley fan (I love that she exists, just don’t LOVE any of her albums save for Dead Petz which I still think it’s her best work to date). I’d rank this right below it because this album flows really really nicely. The most immediate highlights: Handstand, River (the gays will EAT this up), Violet Chemistry and Rose Colored Lenses (the most Dead Petz song of the album). Very disappointed with the Brandi Carlile feature and I absolutely loathe Sia so that one didn’t hit me either. Thank god Lana delayed because this album will resonate with the GP and they’ll talk about it for at least a week lol.
