Because we’ve been examining her previous “polemic” stances or lyrics and while most of us agree she has never deserved the hate and cancelation attempts that came her way, an user also said they advocate for absolute speech and I commented on that. But “Harry Nilsson has a song, his voice breaks at 3:05” I guess.

Oh babe, you’re totally fine! I was actually referring to some things that Vertimus said that, while being surely well-intentioned, can be easily twisted into something more sinister. Asking for nuance doesn’t invalidate that are certain things (intolerance, prejudice, bigotry, etc) that require a more direct and objective moral stance. Not everything is black and white but not everything is grey either. This conversation is happening because of a certain lyric contained in a certain song from the upcoming album. It’s incredibly relevant, as ever.

I was being polite and diplomatic. I agree with people having to see between the lines instead of jumping into modern-day lynches that serve no purpose other than incessant virtue signaling - however delving into the “everyone is entitled to feel, think and say whatever they want because who are we to police that?” rhetoric is dangerous because it’s exactly what the far right extremists use as ammo. There are ideals and values that should be reprimanded and questioned when they put the safety and the existence of large groups of people at risk. I will not not intervene if/when that happens.
