Blue Banisters - Post-Release Discussion Thread + Poll
Sportscruiser replied to Elle's topic in Post-Release Threads
I’ve always been critical of Blue Banisters (the only LDR album I don’t love) but fate wanted me to eat crow by positioning me last saturday night in Lisbon’s biggest club with my friends and making me cross paths with my ex, whom I haven’t seen since we broke up… at the height of BB’s release. It was a very intense and emotionally overwhelming encounter, in which we both locked eyes, went to each other and hugged very very intensely, without saying a word. We barely talked during our exchange and yet I feel like we talked for hours and hours. Going back home later that night, listening to BB (the album that inadvertently accompanied said breakup) made me appreciate the album’s earthy energy and somber tone a lot more. It’s unfocused, unfiltered and unpolished and yet it perfectly recaptures the feeling of coming down to reality after running out of breath by all the memories going in and out of your body. I cried for nearly an hour, letting the album flow all over me and I realized part of the reason I never revisited the album after the acute phase of my breakup was because there’s a lot of stuff there that’s hard to digest and process - it’s when you feel like you’re hit by a wall of bricks and need something to soundtrack that sensation of being torn apart and look at the mess that was made that the album’s quality shines through. I may not always return to it on a regular basis like I do with her other albums but whenever the universe plays very specific tricks on me, I know Blue Banisters will be there for me. It always has. Just wanted to defend the album, sorry for the derailing the thread. I still think Tunnel is aiming for a different vibe altogether. -
I saw her last in July 2019 - which I believe was one of her last concerts before the COVID thing eventually happened. I highly doubt she’s coming to Portugal again but I’ll go to wherever she is, even if it’s just France and/or UK.

She’s saving the best for last A reminder Peppers is a slutty anthem, Let The Light In resembles Religion, Fishtail has an amazing beat, Taco Truck is Venice Bitch’s sequel, Grandfather is MAC’s spiritual successor, Paris Texas is named after a cinematic masterpiece, The Grants is album-trailer-soundtrack-worthy and Candy Necklace is “massive”. Margot and Fingertips can be flops for all I care, Lana will have our backs with the rest of the album.

You know I got you! Love reading everything you write tbh The more I listen to A&W the more cemented is the idea that this will be another big moment for her. A big, brash, sprawling record dealing with love, body image, death, family, sex (addiction), harsh treatment by the media, etc… The critics and fans will both eat it up. She’s clearly very passionate about this one in a way she hasn’t been since NFR only this time she’s going full on therapy session (or quoting her… “effortless straight vibing”. I’m also less worried about cohesion as I once was. I think I can already assume some of the sonic connections between songs: - A&W + Peppers + Fishtails - Kintsugi + Grandfather + Fingertips Not to mention The Grants won’t probably be that drastically different from the title track, Sweet or Paris, Texas… And then there’s Taco Truck x VB at the end tying it all together. I know I’m over my head but oh… This is the experience of being a LDR whore.
