I would have fucking loved to see the Test Me music video. She was so excited about the treatment she wrote, and said it'd be her favorite video she's ever produced. She was begging for streams to get the budget approved, and I'm sure she got plenty, Atlantic Records just sucks, lol. Hoping she repurposes the video for another song in the future, or at least releases the concepts so we can see what she wanted to do with it.

My comment was 90% just a joke about how shitty Atlantic Records has been treating many of their top artists lately, and how they seem to have made Melanie choose between funding for After School music videos or funding for future projects(RIP Test Me music video). There were tons of musicians all over social media speaking about how controlling and terrible they are as a label, and I feel like Melanie would find a way to make it without them backing her.

"Taking pictures of me when I ask 'no more'" I feel bad that she got caught so off guard in those pictures. I get that people want content, and so do I, but I feel like it would have been better to just, IDK.. ask for a photo? In other news, fuck Atlantic Records. How do they expect to make any money if they keep bullying all of their artists to death? I hope Melanie finds a way to leave her contract and move on to an independent career. She could probably get more funding from her fans than from her own label at this point
-
I hope she sticks with the themes of life+death+rebirth and past lives. She could pull off such beautiful visuals and a unique story if she put in all her effort and took constructive criticism from K-12. It would attract a much wider audience than her past albums, and earn her respect that she's been missing in some circles. Can you imagine the costumes and set designs that she and her team could create? Even if the movie is awful, it will undoubtedly be pretty. If she plays the right cards she may even meet the requirements for an award nomination. I'm looking forward to seeing what we get. Ngl though, I'm pretty sure we're getting I Scream 3.0 from her and Bella before we hear anything about the new album, lol.
-
With all due respect to Melanie, if that is what she said, leakers aren't why she's not making money. It's because she's signed to a terrible label(not her fault), never releases anything, and when she does it's geared towards a very specific audience. If anything, leakers are increasing her popularity. MM3 leaks have gained her a ton of popularity by themselves, and I Scream has been trending on TikTok for weeks apparently. Her unreleased music is a lot of her best.

Right? When an artist is barely releasing anything, and a ton of material leaks all of a sudden, how are people expected not to listen to it? Calling them bad fans for craving more music makes no sense, and I feel like people who say that stuff secretly listen to leaks anyway, so.. Obviously it's not cool to steal and leak music. But equating fans who listen to leaks to the hackers themselves has always seemed so dumb. I mean, it's not like they can send the music back at that point, lol.

I don't know why everyone on Twitter acts like they know what's going on in her life. Someone will say something with no back-up, and everyone else will just believe it. First, stans were saying that she's moving because "people can't stop leaking her address and music". She's probably just selling because her home is worth 3× what it was when she bought it, and she could get out of LA and fund future projects with that money. Her address has been out for years, her fans just want someone to be mad at over nothing. They blame "leakers" for literally anything, lol. Now, they're saying she "ruined her voice" by smoking weed, and that's why she has a vape in that new pic(over-analysing, much?). She has a lighter next to the vape, so she's probably still smoking something, and either way she didn't ruin her voice with weed. She just has a soft voice that gets easily tired by the technique she uses, and it's understandable that she struggles with some songs, especially towards the end of concerts. Like, I understand speculation. I understand being bored and wanting discussion, we're all bored at this point. But some people just make shit up and spread it around just to talk about something and it's weird. Make it stop, lol.

Wonder if she's been wearing knit caps a lot lately because she's growing her hair back out and hiding the awkward bits, or if it's just a new fashion choice of hers. Side note and unrelated to anything, I wonder why Cry Baby wasn't originally drawn with split colored hair if Melanie didn't plan to wear brown wigs for the character. Would have been cute either way, but the continuity is nice.

A few days late on this but the Dollhouse EP is officially 8 years old. Wonder where she'll be in another 8 years. Also, remember when we thought she'd be on her 4th or 5th album by now? Dreams, lol.
-
Agreed. She was over-ambitious jumping straight into filmmaking without knowing what she was doing or polishing her skills. She couldn't even make a $6M budget work for her first film, and that's just not right. She dreams of being a filmmaker, but at what cost to her career when they take years to produce, require millions of dollars, and put her in debt to her label? She needs to be more realistic.
-
It doesn't seem like she cares to have them in her professional discography. She may change her mind in the future but she'd probably have to leave Atlantic Records to release it anyway, and I don't see that happening anytime soon. I would like to hear her talk more about why certain songs never got released, but again, probably not happening any time soon. She's very quiet these days and hardly ever interviews. Hope that changes with MM3.
-
Seriously hoping she puts the movie format aside for any future albums. We got 9 videos in a YEAR for Cry Baby, and look how successful that was. Everyone says K-12 was just a film-length music video, but several songs got screwed over by not having their own MV with their own aesthetics. Take Recess for example, it's just put into the background while the film goes on. She could have done better, and technically she already did. Just think of what that K-12 budget could have achieved.
-
this fucking fandom, I swear to god
-
I doubt we're getting the movie this year, for sure. But I wouldn't be surprised if she tries to roll out the album before 2023 to gain some traction for the premiere. She's got to be aware of how bad everything has been looking on her end. Hopefully she's selling her house to make up for the money that Atlantic isn't giving her for MM3, and not just because she can't afford it anymore. After all, look at how much she spends on clothing every month, lol.

They won't care if anyone notices, unfortunately. It gets them views and puts more money in their pockets. The only thing that would stop this is if artists stopped agreeing to it, or found a way to break their contracts and move to another label, which is easier said than done. Hopefully in the near future it won't be like this.
-
Not really looking forward to this collab. I doubt it will be a deluxe track considering Melanie doesn't add features to her albums, and with everyone getting tired of waiting, it probably would've been smarter to record this after they rolled out new music anyway. I also feel like it says a lot that so many people are talking about this already when the video was just posted. Fans are clinging to scraps of info from SM to keep themselves patient, and considering 99% of the comments were "we just want MM3", I don't think it's helping.
-
The wait wouldn't feel so long if she wasn't so detached from all of her socials. On the rare occasion she does post something lately, it's usually just a random clip of her staring into space and/or dancing, a photo of her staring into space in expensive couture, or a clip of Hawaiian cows and grass fields. She's lost almost all of her outwardly visible "relatability" and personality in favor of projecting this self-righteous "sending love and light" character, and it can seem a little weird and fake.
-
Well this is a mess, lol. I kind of had a feeling this was going to happen after the single never came. I don't know what all is being reworked, or what she and her team are doing here, but I think we can assume that this album will be a late 2022 - early 2023 release. She had a lot of potential, but I feel like lately she's doing nothing but making a joke out of herself to everyone who's paying attention(including her label). If she isn't careful, she'll run her own career into the ground and blame it on her fans for listening to her leaked music.
-
Just listened to the leaks and I'm gently disappointed. Once you get past the "shiny and new" aspect, most of the recent finished tracks are decent, but leave me feeling like something is missing. Especially in the lyrics. I know she didn't write Cry Baby on her own, but she wrote enough to prove that she's a capable lyricist, and we haven't seen enough of that since then. I'm craving more from her and her producers. Hoping she hasn't made any drastic changes and the new album will still sound like the tracks we heard throughout 2021. I still don't fully believe that every song from those MM3 sessions are being scrapped either, so let's go, Sirens.
-
She said it wasn't going to take 4 years for the next movie, but we're almost at the 3 year mark already, and I'm not on my toes for the single. I swear, there's one thing multiple big artists need to do lately, and it's to stop making constant release date estimates that end up being wrong every time. It pisses off their fans and makes them look unprofessional. AKA "Lying like SZA", lol.
-
Lol, it's true. Some of K-12 unironically sounded like an angsty kindergartner wrote it, and Michael Keenan's boring pastel production wasn't helping her. "Gotta look like a fuckin' damn Barbie", "Kelly had a fat ass and trouble's cooking", "I am not the fucked up men", literally all of WotB, etc. And those are just soft examples of the bad writing on that album. We know she can do better. We've literally heard it. So, why doesn't she? It's disappointing.
-
They're not wrong though. It has "2015 tumblr era" written all over it, and there's no way it would've been half as successful if she has released it now in the 2020's. It's not a bad album, but most people would probably agree that it's pretty dated by now. It has been almost 8 years, after all. I just feel like she shot herself in the foot by not releasing K-12 as soon as it was finished and moving on to newer things. I honestly could have lived without "After School" if it meant getting new concepts and better music years ago.
-
Agreed. It's not even the aesthetic that's pulling her under, it's how she does it. If she'd have put out something sonically similar to what we've heard of MM3 years ago instead of songs like "Class Fight" and "Wheels on the Bus", she would have a lot more relevancy now, no matter how she dressed. She constantly sacrifices quality for theme, and it shows more than ever after finally hearing great music from her for the first time in years. It's too bad we had to have it leaked to get it.
-
It's honestly impressive that she's managed to stick with this pastel babydoll aesthetic long enough for almost all of her fans to outgrow it, lol.
