Venice Tank was a bomb. Lana even performed the song live at an Apple event with MILLIONS of people tuning in. Seriously, I don’t think it even debut on the Spotify charts lol. Critics loved it but the GP said NO. Mariners, Hope all bombed. That’s what led to Doin Time and the massive gap of her scrambling what to do. Thankfully, Doin Time was a hit.

Cinnamon Girl and Happiness Is A Butterfly would have been big hits had they been the first tastes of the album with a video. As you can see their streams now. She/her team are terrible at choosing singles.

LMLYLAW shouldn’t have never been a single. It should’ve stayed as an unknown album track. Tulsa was right there. LMLYLAW soured the GP so much even the excellence of Chemtrails (song) can’t be pushed through the flop of the first song.

And the way they ignored Dealer smashery has been shocking.

Imo, it was a huge mistake releasing the title track as a single.

Imagine if we heard A&W first from this album, oh the massive collapse. A&W is definitely one her most instant singles.

If we choose to ignore the toxic negativity of this post, there were some good points made here. She and her team are pretty bad at choosing singles.

Having said that, you need to take into consideration:

    a) Her vision:

Is Lana and her team chasing after hits? I would say it all depends on the era. (During the "Lust for Life" era, it was kind of evident they cared, during the "Blue Banisters" era, they probably gave up). But maybe the songs chosen as first singles are meant to represent the album and not to debut on the charts.

Let's use "Dealer" as an example. That's a jam, but what else sounds like that song on the album? "Arcadia" or "Let Me Love You Like A Woman" are 'same old Lana by the numbers,' but they do a great job of encapsulating the vibe and mood of the albums they belong to.

    b) The current state of music/streaming and what's popular:

Music is not instant anymore. What you release at some point might not be successful at the release date. Take into consideration songs like The Weeknd's "Die for You" or Sia's "Unstoppable".

Songs like "Happiness Is A Butterfly," "Diet Mountain Dew," "Brooklyn Baby," "The Other Woman" (or even "Art Deco") weren't mainstream/popular (for Lana standards) back in the days when their respective albums were released. It took them years to become popular among the general public. If they had been released as singles, there would be a chance they would have done nothing.

Conservatives think any male-presenting person that dresses femininely is a pedo. It's tiring :xgiggle:

sadly, conservative/religious people think gay people in general are pedophiles/groomers. Which is absolutely disgusting and harmful for the queer culture.

If God is love, and they're representing his beliefs, where the fuck is the love they believe in / preach about in situations like this one?

Poor Sam, tho, but I bet they knew the response they were going to get with their performance. Probably they're laughing now. But the situation is still fucked up.

Bah, it’s the neverending cycle of LB: pre-eras trash the previous album, with through-the-roof expectations for the new one. But once the new is out for a couple of weeks, « deceptions » begin to fly high again.
According to LB, HM was considered boring when it was out, LFL was trash and incohesive, NFR was watered-down, etc, etc. HM was viewed as a masterpiece after LFL and NFR; LFL finally got the well-deserved love it got with new members joining for the last two years, etc.
all critics are valid, but this forum tends to be over critical with the last album and even the newest one.

I totally agree. The views about art change with time, perceptions are not eternally settled in time, they shape, based on opinions, growth and even cultural aspects. Time present and time past are both perhaps present in time future and all that. Maybe in a couple of years, people will end up considering "Coachella — Woodstock in My Mind" as a life-changing career highlight, you never know!

It's the piano-talk and the toxic relationship between the fandom and the producers skills with a freaking piano what makes me laugh :omfg2:. Poor little piano, doing his best.

Yes he could and he did on BB :wtf3:

It's the same cycle again. Hating on Jack's piano, now on Drew's and next album cycle will be the poor soul that dares to produce a piano ballad for her.

    Kinda tiring

    Right?

When "Blue Banisters" was released, people were TRASHING Jack. There were literally essays about how "Jack Antonoff only knows how to play chords, Drew Erickson is a REAL pianist". And now they hate Drew and love Jack, like: ???? :awk:

This fandom is literally traumatized by an instrument, it makes them shape-shift their views lmao

  5. Btw, just a thought but... what if we actually DON'T have a music video this era? We haven't heard anything about a music video shooting and/or behind the scenes. Unless they're keeping it all ultra secret (which seems unlikely, since everything Lana does has the tendecy to leak).

I'd be so bummed. Even during the "Chemtrails" era, we had a huge video, a beautiful one, and... whatever the "Let Me Love You Like A Woman" music video was supposed to be. Heck, even "Blue Banisters" had visuals.

With this era is being promoted way more than the previous ones, it makes sense to have a music video, right?

  6. Woah, is "Chromatica" an universally hated album around here? I'm not the biggest Gaga stan or pop music lover, but I found it quite a fun listening experience (?)

  7. Woah, you guys actually dislike "Ancient Dreams..."? I think it's a fun record. Way better than the previous one. Slightly more in tune with her first albums with a modern twist imho.

"Love + Fear" felt like a Spotify playlist of different artists put together. "Orange Trees" is such a terrible song :toofloppy:

It's not a bait. All I'm saying is that you guys are acting like hipsters. It's not a coincidence that Honeymoon is hailed as a mastwerpiece on this forum (because it's Lana's most underrated/ignored album) while NFR (her most acclaimed work) gets

Following that logic, wouldn't people be praising left and right the real underrated/ignored Antonoff-produced album "Chemtrails Over the Country Club"?

    :wtfney:

  9. "Love Song" and "Beautiful" are the most basic titles ever. She has way too many songs with the words "beautiful" and "love" in it.

    Love

    • Love

    • Groupie Love

    • Love Song

    • Fuck It I Love You

    • Puppy Love

    • Let Me Love You Like A Woman

    • True Love on the Side

    • You're Gonna Love Me

    • Baby Blue Love

    Beautiful

    • Beautiful

    • Beautiful People Beautiful Problems

    • God Bless America — And all the Beautiful Women In It

    • Young and Beautiful

    • Life is Beautiful

atrocious song, boring and weird. should have known it was produced by dan from all the strings and no interesting structure. he really is a great strings composer but he can't produce a proper full production, his work ends up feeling too orchestral with no "pop" flavour. if rick had produced life is beautiful it would have been far more dynamic. he shouldnt be producing anything on his own, he's a composer first and foremost

The audacity to insult the man who gave us the song "Ultraviolence" and "Old Money" :hdu:. I agree about "You & Me" being a bit of a boring song, tho.

But yeah, he's more of a composer than a producer. His string arrangement on songs like "Ride", "Gods & Monsters" is top notch. But he's better as a 'working as a team' kind of guy.

mind actually blown re: let me love you like a woman UV version...the bridge is so good, the fact that she used it as a pre-chorus is so intriguing!! adding to my list of leaks i'm dying to hear. also dying to hear melancholia still, and based on how incredible the demos for LFL and BPBP are i have no doubt LFL album outtakes are incredible.

I'm tempted to ask Dan Heath about "Melancholia" but I'll wait a little bit, after the "You & Me" spam that I did yesterday đź’€
