I think TV would be a good TikTok song AND a good song in general. The eyes on the prize line…I could see that working on TikTok.

Melanie fell off at her second album but still hopeful for something better. But you’re right, it’s rare to find artists who keep improving their craft. I’ll forgive a sophomore slump, but another K-12, I’ll be cutting the string like she talked about in Needle and Thread, I fear.

I agree, these snippets don’t seem quite finished. Even the HQ versions sound pretty low quality through headphones. Lower quality than the leaks we have of MM3 honestly, and much lower quality than streaming. Even the videos from her Instagram and TikTok seem to be that way. In a way I hate this snippet roll out. It’s almost as hard to make judgments as the nightmare of snippets leaked for DYKTTATUOB. Every song tells a story on its own, and are hard to judge sometimes outside of a whole album, particularly in Melanie’s case, let alone a snippet of a song with no context. I don’t know why she’s doing it this way, particularly with how concept and album focused she is in telling a story.

Aside from Spider Web, I don’t think the lyrics have been glaringly bad. I would say Void and Death seem pretty empty and not relatable, but we are talking about less than 30 second snippets against the bigger picture of a 3:00-5:00 song. While Melanie had some great lyrics in the Cry Baby era, there’s some bad moments too: I don’t give a fuck about you anyway, whoever said I gave a shit bout you? Iconic yes, but not great lyricism. Getting drunk with a blue caterpillar. I’m peeling the skin off my face, cuz I really hate feeling safe. If we got that line in a snippet, we would be saying it sounded as bad as Spider Web, but Mad Hatter is one of the best tracks on CB. And if we saw a track called Mrs Potato Head ahead of Portals, I’m sure we would be cringing. Maybe she gave us those small clips of Faerie Soirée and Tunnel Vision to tell us those were the leaks that were making the track list, along with a clear re-work of Sirens into Void. The TV intro is almost exactly like the demo, with the breath sounds too. I’m discouraged at times too, but I’m trying to think in terms of the big picture as well (and praying to Mother Spider for TV and N&T)

I feel like she’s trying to appeal to her new generation of fans tbh. Anyone who was a fan in the Cry Baby era, or is close to her age, would find the lyrics pretty simple. But these middle school stans don’t care.

I listened to the album a few times today while working and I enjoyed it didn’t change my life, but it was all quite pleasant and cohesive. I do think it has a summery vibe? Favorites would be Rose Colored Lenses, Island, and Wonder Woman

I like this one a lot as Track 12 before the ultimate closer to come, Needle and Thread. So now we have only 4 tracks we haven’t heard a piece of, I believe: 7, 10, 11, 13.
