  1. Overall the never ending snippets for NFR definitely dampened some of the pre release era and may have affected the impact the album had on all of us, but I do think all the videos she posted were really cute :teehee: she seemed proud of what she was making and excited to release her work, even if it felt like they were in limbo

hope they never find out about the wrong PWYC lyrics

There’s something charming about fake lyrics written by some twink vs fake lyrics written by AI used by some twink. AI is killing art :cryney2: I would know because one of my first posts on the Honeymoon prerelease thread were fake Burnt Norton “lyrics” that I made during my high school English class :eartha: The AI’s just lack the Lana clichés and I miss it. Fake lyrics just aren’t fun anymore

Another Drew Erickson lashing because I’m just in a bitchy mood.

Y’all see how A&W’s first part, even if piano-oriented, evokes a very specific mood and tone? Drew Erickson could NEVER EVER. EVER.

what if someone had asked Picasso not to be sad

I do really enjoy his piano in Sweet Carolina though. we shall see how his songs turn out on TUOB

I'm soooo curious what this track will sound like. Are we thinking a kind of MAC pop rock ballad? Or something closer to ocean blvd (seeing as it transitions straight into that track afterwards.) Also can't imagine how the lyrics "the grants" would work in a song without it sounding cringe but I know my girl can do it.

inb4 the grants is about all the grants she's received in her youth to help fund her music

The title alone just gives me NFR title track vibes. I’m so happy we’re so in the dark about this album as a whole, it’s so mysterious and exciting. 6 more days until we jsut have a month :trisha:

  5. I love the “I say I live in Rosemead, really I’m at the Ramada” line. As someone who grew up in LA, I don’t know too much about that area but I do know it’s a pretty suburban area similar to Arcadia, so I get the somewhat peaceful imagery from that. Then it’s juxtaposed with the Ramada mention, which is a cheap hotel chain. It does give me the vibe of her old Lizzy songs, being from *nowhere* but having these affairs with other people in cheap hotels while maintaining the image of someone living a simple suburban life. Idk what if that’s what I means but I just get that imagery everytime I listen to it.

Don’t know if it’s been discussed before as the site was crashed for me but lots of people say that jimmy is jim from uv and I don’t really agree with that. Jack called Lana jimmy on a previous insta post and Lana singing about a younger lizzy seems to make the most sense to me. First of all jim from uv is literally a cult leader so it wouldn’t make sense when her mom finds out he’s doing drugs☠️ he is scarier than that. But if jimmy is Lana and Patricia founds out lizzy is doing drugs it would tie the boarding school era of her and also why she’s fucking up big time.

I feel like you can look at a lot of her recent songs (that seem to be about someone else) actually being about herself. I remember someone telling me that they see Venice Bitch as a song about her private life vs her public life with concerts/fans (‘you write, I tour, we make it work’ and ‘you’re beautiful and I’m insane’) and it’s so interesting to see her songs in that vein :cryney2: I still see it as a love song lol but

I never understood this argument. It would be another story if they sounded, like, exactly the same but overall I like most of his produced songs even if they share the same whatever as long as they’re not a complete copy. I remember someone pointed out how Kevin Abstract’s Baby Boy was a “recycled” The Louvre by Lorde because of its guitar intro and I was like…I don’t really care since the songs are different anyways? They’re both amazing songs :bebe: and also it just takes away from the artist’s own choices themselves. I feel like most producers have a signature sound anyways and we just know Jack’s more because he’s producing for everyone these days

ok the song is good but we shouldn't exaggerate it

I think the song still has some flaws that can't be ignored, like some parts where she loses her voice.

wouldn't compare it to something by Radiohead or Pink Floyd , maybe to Jack's work with Lorde, but Melodrama's songs seem more flawless

I’m pretty sure people are drawing the comparisons to sound, right? I definitely see the rock band from 70s or 90s comparisons in the first half since it’s straight up folk and a bit progressive. They’re pretty glaring. I’ve heard influences from Hotel California and Going to California with the guitar, and even some Trent Reznor with the piano.
I don’t really hear Melodrama in the first half, second half it’s is definitely there though. But tbh I hear more Masseduction, like Hang On Me.
