  1. I'm an artist who loves to experiment with settings, costumes, and props (the ghost of that taxidermied alligator is still haunting me) to tell a story, but this week, I was happy to strip back to the basics and show what I can do with my own magic. I believe that a beauty shot can still communicate so much, so I tried to create a distinct mood with just the use of my expression, some backlighting, and my mane of hair. Like an ancient cipher or the Mona Lisa, I challenge a viewer to guess what I'm really thinking...
  2. It sounds kind of like “‘cause of those candy necklaces, right” to me, but her lack of enunciation is legendary
  3. We don't have the same level of homelessness in the UK as in the US, so this photoshoot required some imagination -- as did my sabotage from that talentless hack Lana Del Rey! Thankfully, I had a box lying around that immediately reminded me of a upscaled version of the tiny cardboard boxes the homeless are known to sleep in. I coupled this with a messy hairdo and a stripped-back, shoeless look that remains glamorous while channeling the literal streetwear of the unhoused!
  4. TINASHE X KATE BUSH: A MATTER OF TIME We may come from different musical worlds, but we had so much fun creating a world of our own in this week's photoshoot! We wanted to convey the idea that human life is fleeting, and that the "sands of time" will eventually run out for us all. However, if we nurture ourselves like a garden, we'll avoid falling into our inner desert before our time. Our photographer David LaChapelle loved the concept, and even though we spent almost all of Running Up That Hill's royalties making the gigantic crystal hourglass, it was well worth it! (Fun fact: Kate almost drowned in the pool of sand, so we'd better be in the top this week!)
  5. She is such a star… no one brings that old-school brand of glamour and mystique these days like she does
  6. I think an alter ego can reveal what you'd like to see in yourself, so I built my look with that point of view. Inspired by fantasy and folktale heroines, my warrior woman is bringing all the strength, sexiness, and sense of adventure I'd like to channel in and out of the competition. She's a rogue, she's a royal, she brings it to you every ancient legend!
  7. I love to take inspiration from the natural world with my own theatrical twist, so this week I'm portraying a golden-furred lion. I went for a neutral space with a lot of unvarnished wood and clear light to best showcase my YELLOW look. If my competitors didn't already know I was fierce, I'm here to let them know with this ferocious look!
  8. I got so relaxed in the water tank that I almost forgot to submit, but here's the product! My aquatic couture look combines the very unglamorous happening of being shipwrecked with the grace of Shakespeare's Ophelia. And I even wrote a concept album about it!:
  9. Miss Kate Bush I actually posted this photo elsewhere earlier this week, and wow... quilted dress, parking garage, alligator on a leash? Camp couture classic!
  10. I’m so in 1. Kate Bush 2. Cindy Sherman 3. Greta Garbo
  11. It really does!! Photographer is Claude Vanheye and the dress designer is Fong Leng, and the whole photoshoot is both bonkers and really striking
  12. I was listening to this interview with Gered Mankowitz this week, who was responsible for a lot of Kate's 1978/9 promo images, and thinking how bad I need a Lanapedia-style archive of Kate's photoshoots Especially in those early years, she was photographed SO much and in so many amazing setups: Like, oh my god...
  13. Her wearing Arthur's merch is so adorable I'm such a sucker for Lizthur
  14. Let me be the lone voice in the wilderness saying Beautiful I get that the earnestness of it can read a little cringey, but I love how sweet and hopeful it is. A perfect springtime song, when everything’s brightening up and coming out of the cold
  15. We don’t deserve you this is so major
  16. So glad we got to share such a lovely night this is the best community and we stan the best artist… long live Lanaboards, long live LASSO, and most of all, long live LANA DEL FUCKING REY
