looooove vashti! so glad to see you included her. are you a fan of linda perhacs by any chance? she has sort of a similar sound (and story!) to vashti. same with connie converse, too!

i love you for both of these  :flutter: i got so obsessed w/both bessie and annette for such a long time-- here's one of my favorites by annette:

    ~boyfriend goals~

and oh my god all of these are so good! i can't tell you how shocked i was when i heard "shave 'em dry" for the first time-- "my pussy tastes like pepsi-cola" suddenly felt tame  :creep:

and wow i love billie holiday, helen kane, ~and~ the crystals-- and i found that brenda lee song from "bound 2" as well and now i just listen to the instrumental of it because i love the samples, lol

Timi is one of my favorites from the 60s (actually her career spanned all the way to the 80s), anyone else?

Love her! Found her through this video, and was totally blown away by her voice-- beautiful song, as well:

  3. So, if Jimmy Gnecco was produced by David Khane, it shouldn't be part of the No Kung Fu EP (If that's even a thing), unless there's a studio version still out there :creep:

I believe that's the implication-- there's still an existing version! Which doesn't surprise me, with all the unleaked Kahne tracks: Lemonade Motorcycle Heaven, Ben, Bounce, Coconut and Keylime Pie, etc. I bet a lot of the tracks have similar sounds to AKA, which is so exciting!

  4. As if a song about drugs, motorcycles and putting on shows for men is authentic?

you ought to know good and well that symbols like these mean a lot to lana. to assume that yayo is just a song about "drugs, motorcycles, and putting on shows for men" is to simplify things too much. it's a song, at least it seems to me, about escaping from the darkness in her life, really feeling happiness for once, and being with someone she loves very much-- i think it's so melancholy, though, because she doesn't believe she'll really get that  :pft:

  5. I find it to be her most overrated song. The lyrics are so unoriginal and the instrumental is just another guitar line. Really don't see any abundance of things that are in good songs

i think what makes yayo so great is the authenticity of it-- you can tell it means a lot to lana, and it doesn't need anything else than the guitar. i find the lyrics to be absolutely wonderful, too. but of course you're free to your opinion!

  6. in "drive by", a song about K's crime and arrest, lana sings "is this what you wished? did you wanna die?"

in "hawaiian tropic", lana sings "'every man gets his wish--' you told me this, now you're gone"

just thought this was so sad and bittersweet-- K had a death wish and ended up finally getting it :rollin:

(honestly i feel like K is the most enigmatic piece of lana's songwriting-- obviously this guy had a HUGE impact on her-- and yes, i believe he most definitely really existed. her songs about K seem to be more personal than much of her other material. poor lana and poor K)
