genuinely. i know everyone hates it but the ONLY part of the song i like even a little bit is the chorus. at least she tried something different with it. but god. the verses sound like the worst songs on L+F. no substance, boring melody, the most boring production one could possibly muster up. the bridge being her listing colors? girl whatever

looking at his recent discography is so depressing. it’s all the most random ass songs that no one is listening to. tiesto? dj khaled? tones and i? this man writes pure poetry and THESE are the songs getting released? (and most of them just being interpolations of his older stuff) always very peeved kali just.. threw all their songs in the trash.

Right! There only being one Rick song on that album is such a tease… it was the perfect album for him to work on 😭😭 Ugh the production on that album always upsets me so much, it’s so boring, but rick? oh boy he would’ve made it sound like heaven

its weird too, because i do think froot is overall her best work and that was self-written so? maybe it just depends on where she is in life. i know with froot she really had something to prove so maybe she just REALLY gave it her all, but, if she insists on writing alone, i wish that passion and drive was still evident

Oh i know! my point was mainly that although she’s still doing basic pop, i wouldn’t compare it to EH like you did 😭 Like EH and Love + Fear (and Butterfly) are both basic pop, but it’s like… Future Nostalgia VS Radical Optimism in terms of quality/uniqueness One of my favorite songs from that album! Even though the music videos kinda basic it’s very effective

if you have to change things… then it wouldn’t really fit now would it no but really i think froot is just a genuinely interesting body of work, it has some really pretty instrumentation, some cool vocal filters, and smooth yet thoughtful lyrics, butterfly just feels really bland to me (a la love and fear)

eh, don’t know if this argument makes a ton of sense - you can’t really group all of basic pop together as a whole. pretty broad spectrum there. comparing electra to what marina’s releasing now is like comparing future nostalgia to an ava max album. just the lyricism between then and now is what really does it for me. valley of the dolls for instance, so incredibly gorgeous! sex yeah, genuinely a little thought provoking, it’s progressive without being corny! the production too! those first three albums had so many little things in the background that i would regularly put on instrumentals to study to, but a lot of the instrumentals nowadays are kinda just really generic (besides ancient dreams which actually had some interesting choices!)

lowkey yeah that makes more sense, take away the vocal pitching and it would absolutely fit on there
