i think the use of the pastors sermon as an interlude is meant to be a bit tongue in cheek. I mean in A&W she’s going on about god being a charlatan, her being an American whore etc and then we get this 4 minute deranged speech from a clearly very narcissistic egotistical man who even ends by saying his whole role with the church and what he does is really all about him & not the people he’s speaking to at all- I think it’s definitely meant to be a jab at religious ideology & those weird cult of personality churches in America that celebs go to.

Can I be honest? I really wish it was. But I think it wasn’t 

we hear lana agreeing with him and we know how she easily falls into cult-like situations.
